Alfonso Cuaron was also initially in talks before her turned it down.
Not who I would have expected but I didn't know he was also a fan. I love Villeneuve's movies so in hindsight, this seems like a great choice. Let's hope he can deliver.

This is kind of surprising but I'm going back over his filmography and he hasn't really worked with any British male actors that fit the likely age range. In fact I'm struggling to find any brits...

In fact I'm struggling to find any brits at all outside of Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson (edit: she's Swedish), and Charlotte Rampling haha. (On that note though, I'd love to see any/all of them in this...)
Personally, I'm hoping Olivia Colman gets cast as M -- I saw her in something awhile back that practically felt like an audition for this role, she'd be perfect.
Anyway, my money is on Aaron Taylor-Johnson being the next Bond. He was recently announced as an Omega brand ambassador and he's been coy when asked about what he's doing next.
A non-British Bond does have a precedent in Pierce Brosnan - perhaps two, even, if you're Scottish ;) Two potential picks I quite like are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as you mentioned, and Regé-Jean...

i wish they’d stop with the movies and focus on a Bond series, using four episodes to cover each story from the start… and actually follow the books, which are far superior to the campy films.

Currently, [Denis] is in prep on the third Dune film, which is scheduled to shoot this summer.
It’s unclear when Bond will begin production, but the search is underway for a screenwriter who will work with Villeneuve to bring the newest incarnation of the secret agent to the big screen.

Under another director probably wouldn't have even registered on my radar. Now I'll probably watch it on streaming pretty quickly.
On one hand: nice. On the other, I will have a hard time enjoying anything that delays Rama in my mind :P
I also mourn whatever original projects this steals him away from - at the same time though, I do like Bond, and he never misses, so it will be great.

Damn, an Edgar Wright Bond would've been a sight to behold.
Yeah now I'm kind of bummed. Edgar Wright would have been amazing...
I want to see Nick Frost as Bond.
A Nolan Bond movie would be an interesting watch though.
I suppose so, though he is the less talented brother

I don't agree with Rege, he can't act. Aaron Pierre would be a better choice, Rebel Ridge was low key an audition for Bond
I'm not too familiar with Pierre's work but I'll make a point to check out Rebel Ridge, cheers for the rec!
The Night Manager?
At first, I thought the idea of Timothée Chalamet playing the part would be really funny, but now I’m actually all for it.
Michael Cera please.

Which books would you recommend first?
honestly, go in order. they are really short and fun and kind of bleed into each other.
So thankful he's finishing Dune first!
But he's probably delaying Rendezvous With Rama. =(
Denis is attached to like 5 other projects lol. He's gonna prioritize Bond over his other stuff like Cleopatra that he's signed on to do.
Ahh dang that's right, I knew I was forgetting something. Well, just gives me more time to read the book then haha
Gives him more time to cook, to get it done right.

If you couldn’t get Christopher Nolan, then this is the second best choice. Amazon going to go all out with the budget.
