What a drive by Norris, Piastri and Albon. Oh, and Hamilton just timed the podium, but man, you have to be in the position to capitalize.
Stroll, what a terrible drive. 5 second penalty is a joke.
EDIT: Google couldn't have asked for a better weekend for a promotional run :D
Just Max. If it was Checo and another driver of his caliber, the story would be that Red Bull built a tough to set up weak qualifier with rocketship DRS, and it'd be a fight in a lot of races.

I am quite disappointed with McLaren's livery this weekend. I was hoping there would be a lot more chrome and silver and less papaya, but the papaya is here to stay.
Is anybody here going to be at Silverstone this weekend?

Couple of my thoughts after FP1 and FP2 -
Right now, the new tire compounds seem to be a big struggle for most of the drives. I saw a lot of slippery cars during FP1.
Williams looks amazing right now. I hope their pace can continue. I also really want Logan Sargeant to get his first points. I also, really, really want them to out qualify Mercedes.
Haas, please get your Sunday race pace up to par with what we are seeing on Saturdays. Nico has been the absolute dark horse this season and also gives me glimmers of hope that he gets his pole.
RB , no surprises has done well during FP1 and 2. I chuckled when Verstappen said "Its like driving on ice" and had just crushed the lap.
McLaren looked really solid. Both Lando and Oscar having the same upgrades seems to be working for them.
Ferrari is about where I expected them to be. Charles always has my sympathy, dude is like in a bad relationship with Ferrari and reliability continues to hinder his chances at being a WDC contender.
Aston Martin continues to give me hope for a Nando pole. And Lance is always such a wildcard of a driver for me. I swear I flip between he's decent to awful every race.
Mercedes has surprised me as well. I would have hoped that some of these upgrades would have given them a more competitive car but it does not look like it.
AT also about where I expected. I don't know if De Vries will be racing in F1 next year given his performance. Yuki has really surprised me. He is definitely taking this more seriously and has had much better performances in the last couple of races.
Alpine, looked alright. I feel like they are always on the cusp of being consistent but something always seems to happen.
Alfa Romeo again, where I expected. Hoping that the Audi takeover happening in a 2026 will help make the team more competitive.
I was surprised with the times being put in on the new hard compound as compared to the current medium compound. I haven't seen any report yet, but has there been a cause for de Vries tire...
I was surprised with the times being put in on the new hard compound as compared to the current medium compound. I haven't seen any report yet, but has there been a cause for de Vries tire puncture at the end of FP2? If I'm remembering correctly, he was on the new hard compound tires.

And that's Perez out in Q1! Wow. Albon had me worried there, and then he put that Williams out there and he's passed into Q2! Real shame Bottas' lap got deleted, and Norris still pulling out those massive performances.
Also, Max, I get it man. Driving is hard..
edit: Bottas' lap wasn't deleted, he did make it into Q2 and I'm dumb. He did lose power at the end of Q1 though, so I doubt we'll see him run in Q2
edit 2: And that's Bottas (no time set) in P15, Sargeant P14, Ocon P13, Stroll P12 and Hulkenberg in P11.
Perez still ended up P3 in Austria right? Not sure where he started (missed last weekend), but I just heard commentators saying 5th time in a row he's out in Q1. It's ridiculous he can't get out...

It's ridiculous he can't get out of Q1, but he does have the ability to recover. Definitely helps he's in an RB, of course.
Safety car timing sucked for Piastri, that podium got stolen away from him. He’s got plenty of chances to go, and he’ll get it if he stays in this form. ALBONOOOOOO P8. Talk about a driver doing...

I think the teams were rewarded for their patience. It’s probably easy to comment about it now, but I understand it’s hard to make such a call at the moment.

Happy for Lando for his well deserved podium. The mclarens running high downforce setup and a cooler than usual track temperatures really helped them to hold on to their track positions.
Still not sure when Ferrari pitted Charles so early.
After the safety car, I think the places were quite set with the DRS train.

I'd expect McLaren to take a step forward. Only Landos car had the upgrades this last weekend. Once both cars are in the new spec, they should comfortably get double-points.

Albon seems to be a shitbox whisperer the way he is able to get somewhat consistent points in the Williams. I really hope Sargeant can get going too, because he has been basically invisible so far.

I wonder if Albon's mastery of maintaining tire condition has anything to do with it. Less work needed in that area on his car so they can focus more on handling or other adjustments.

I'm really interested to see if Perez keeps his seat at Redbull. I could see Sainz leaving Ferrari and would love to see him move to Redbull.

I think the general narrative is being harsh on McLaren for the hards on Norris. No new softs available and a car which has seen substantial changes presumably with little data on tire deg. They either bet on Lando to hold up Hamilton on the hards with confidence that they won't fall off severely before the flag, or you go on softs for a better 3-4 laps but the potential to drop time substantially before the end. They bet on Lando and the known quantities. That's how a good driver opens up options for a team.

Is there a chance of rain on Sunday? Seems like some of us are getting our wishes for more wet races! Obviously these are just FPs, but I'm liking seeing Albon in the Top 3.

According to Accuweather, there's a 50% chance of rain at 3PM when the race starts. Really hoping Albono can pull through right now! Quali starts in 10 minutes, so I'm off to see it :)

I think the same was said about the UK GP last year too. I know it's a tired opinion, but the purpose built tracks provide such better racing that it's always a bit sad whenever we go to a newer flashy street circuit. And then the best tracks are always on the chopping block because F1 management keep demanding more money from them.
This continues to be a season, where, if Red Bull/Max didn't exist, it would be an all-time GOATed modern season. So many switches in team competitiveness, and good racing in the middle of the pack.

Piastri is increasingly looking like something special.
Indeed, a lot of hype and promise from his junior career turning out to be the real deal.

It's ridiculous he can't get out of Q1, but he does have the ability to recover. Definitely helps he's in an RB, of course.
The Red Bull makes all the other cars look like F2 cars when it’s got DRS. Good recovery isn’t a good excuse in that rocket ship imo.
Safety car timing sucked for Piastri, that podium got stolen away from him. He’s got plenty of chances to go, and he’ll get it if he stays in this form.
ALBONOOOOOO P8. Talk about a driver doing everything right at the moment.
Albon AHEAD of BOTH Ferraris! Even successfully defended against Leclerc! Impressive beyond belief.
I do feel the teams should have been more patient with the pit calls. There is a disabled car on the track which is on fire.. A VSC wouldn’t have cut it. They would have had to deploy a full SC eventually.
I think the teams were rewarded for their patience. It’s probably easy to comment about it now, but I understand it’s hard to make such a call at the moment.
That would mean depending on the stewards to make reasonable decisions, which is far from a guarantee.
Mercedes tried that, that one time
The safety car really screwed up Ferrari.. they would have finished quite close to where they started.

What are peoples opinions on Piastri anyways? I havent seen anything too impressive so far.
Impression so far: he's doing better than Ricciardo in that seat.
I like Piastri. He is young and so far has performed better than other recent rookies. I think he's gonna be a solid driver for Mclaren. This weekend is gonna be big both for him and Mclaren.
Best of the rookies, but that's a low bar atm.
I think that's true for both McLaren and Williams. I'm really curious to see what Sargeant looks like with the updates Albon has had
Albon seems to be a shitbox whisperer the way he is able to get somewhat consistent points in the Williams. I really hope Sargeant can get going too, because he has been basically invisible so far.

I think Merc are bringing upgrades to Silverstone. Not sure about any other team.
As a west coast US fan I love and hate this time of year. 6am lights out is both amazing and absolutely terrible on a Sunday.

Oh wow thanks for that. I've been relying on youtube highlights until now
Perez misses Q3 for a fifth time In a row… that is not world championship contender performance.
Albon killing it in the Williams.
That was a painful Q1 for Perez. He knew he had to get out and put a time on the board, but going out first ended up hurting him so much in the end. The track evolved so much in the last 3 minutes - I honestly didn't think Verstappen needed to go out after the red flag and I was so wrong.

Norris drove like a mad man, that restart had me on the edge of my seat. Albon vs Alonso vs Lecrec was amazing to watch near the end. Very fun race.
I think the general narrative is being harsh on McLaren for the hards on Norris. No new softs available and a car which has seen substantial changes presumably with little data on tire deg. That was the best race of the year, hands down.

And then the best tracks are always on the chopping block because F1 management keep demanding more money from them.
I do wonder what the racing would be like on an F1 street circuit as wide as the one NASCAR just ran in Chicago.
