Ooh, I'm happy to see this! Thanks JurisSpecter for posting – in true ADHD fashion, I completely forgot about this thread's existence in its absence, but stumbling across this post (even a week late) was exciting! I'm always happy to read these and see how others are doing.

My life has been crazy lately, but I think I've been doing a decent job at handling it. The past few months have seen my wife and I moving into our first house, struggling with surprise plumbing and renovations, and my starting a new job. I just became a teacher in my own classroom for the first time after working as a parapro for years while finishing school.

In a manner very typical for the company I work for (an ed. service center in my area), I didn't receive my roster (including grades and schedule) or even my room number until two weeks before school started, meaning I could do basically no lesson planning or curriculum prep until then. Aside from that, the previous teacher left the room trashed, with abandoned garbage, food, and even student data just laying around. So, I worked outside of contract hours and days for around a month just to get to a place where I felt like the room was pleasant to be in and where I have enough activities planned that I can get some rest before heading in the next day.

There have been a lot of days where the balance has been all work and no life, though those days are thankfully becoming the minority. This past week I finally decided I need to do some Sunday meal prep, because I can't rely on myself to pack a lunch from scratch every morning and eating out of the staff vending machine is not sustainable. I'm still exhausted, but feeling waaaay better than before. Still not really any long-term plans for lessons, though πŸ˜…

I actually just did this! I don't have nearly as many books as you, but I used a rather obscure software called BiblioteQ. It fit my needs: open source, OpenLibrary/LoC/etc. lookup, self-hosted. Documentation is a little sparse, but I was able to figure some things out after playing with it. I like that it has options for different types of materials, too! I collect a lot of field guides and reports from my state wildlife office, and I'm able to catalogue these things without needing an ISBN. It's nifty!

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I had a blessedly easy time getting my diagnosis. My therapist happened to recommend a psychologist that accepted my insurance and was in my same part of town (completely by accident!). Once I got brave enough to email her, she basically confirmed it outright, though I still had to go through the process.

Seems like it's different for everyone, but for me I had three appointments: an intake, the diagnostic, and the results, each about an hour.

All that to say maybe 3/10 on difficulty, with most of that on me for being nervous. Sadly, I know I'm likely in the minority on that. But if there are any other Central Ohians that want to get tested, I can send a good rec your way!

    Hello :)

Happy to see this. I just got diagnosed almost exactly three months ago at 27, in no small part due to the advice from Tildesians. It's been a huge awakening and a lot to process! But I'm very thankful for the chance to get that diagnosis and finally uncover a bit of why I've always felt different from others. I've been looking at finding a local ADHD support group but am WAYYYY too scared to actually go atm. I think this will fill the gap until I build some more confidence!

I don't post or comment much because I have a lot of social anxiety and fear of rejection (gasp)! As such, I'll probably lurk through most of these threads and just get support and encouragement vicariously through all of you confident people πŸ˜…

Thanks again for setting this up, @daychilde !!!

Well I suppose I'll share, since some others are too. I run a little personal blog that's really only got a few posts so far. And it's more like a personal diary, meant for me and not really built to draw in outside eyes. It's got a small collection of blog posts and some other miscellany. Very not professional and I'm mildly terrified of having people actually read it! Direct attention is something I am very uncomfortable with!

Anyway, if you do choose to read it, keep in mind that it's basically all personal ramblings and not meant to be anything profound or whatever. With all that said, here's a post I'm relatively proud of: happy new year.

Ah, I guess I should also add that my site is built with Hugo (and thus not with BearBlog), but does use the Bear Cub theme, which is based on the same principles. Oh, and I decided to use @TheMeerkat's JWCL license to cover the works on my page :)

Not to poke holes in your suggestion, but solely because I'm uninformed on the topic: how would such a tax be enforced/reported? Surely property owners would be incentivized to lie in an honor-based system, so would there be regular check-ins by officials?

I do like the idea, though. I'm getting pretty jaded by the consolidation of housing by relatively few companies/individuals in my town, too.

Have you looked at Suntimes, and especially the Suntimes Alarms extension? I'm not sure of the total functionality, but it is based on setting alarms based on celestial events, including sun- and moonrise/set, along with others, I believe. I don't know if it has the capability of the "five minutes before" thing, but maybe worth a look if you haven't already.

    Plus it's FOSS :)

It actually really got me wondering about how we might go about expanding this idea to other tiling polygons, which I guess is only triangles.

But we could take it step further, too! What about semiregular tilings? Or tilings with irregular polygons? Could we generalize piece movements such that they are consistent across all tiled planes? What about in higher dimensions? It could be a fun project :)

Kind of hate to make a top-level comment what with all the great discussion and insight already here, but this comment doesn't really fit into any of the current conversations.

I'm a man, I guess, though I don't know if I'll feel comfortable calling myself one. I'm young, 25, and like so many others have no relationship with my father. He was (and presumably still is) a narcissistic and manipulative person with a very specific view of what it meant to be a man. Very unique, I know, and my childhood was definitely not as bad as many!

My mother did divorce and remarry to my step-dad. He's great, I love him, he's been there for me much more than my bio dad has, despite knowing me a shorter time and having no impetus to be so kind.

I bring this up because one part of the article that really struck me was in the embedded video where the author asked several men about who they looked up to. All of them mention a father. That's great for people who had a good dad to look up to. Again, my step-dad is great, I love him to death, but not because he's the ideal of what I think a man should be. He's my family and so, despite his flaws, I love him. But I don't model my manhood after him.

That's... actually a little difficult to say, just because I know it would hurt him if he knew. It is the truth, though. I thought about it after watching the clip and while reading through the rest of the article. I do not have a man that I look up to as a model of masculinity. Is that why I feel so lost? Outcast, unable to pinpoint an identity for myself?

I've never felt much of a connection to traditional masculinity. I've never been competitive. I don't yearn to lead or have my name on awards. I never thrived in sports (I always got bored or too scared about getting hit by the ball or other players πŸ˜…). Never had a huge drive to be a provider or even seek out money beyond what I need to survive.

I'm lucky enough now to live in an apartment with my fiancΓ©e, have a stable job that I love and do well in, and am enrolled in classes to advance my career. But when I move on and I work with vulnerable kids that ask me, "What does it mean to be a man?", what will I tell them? I don't even know what to tell myself!

I digress. All this is to say that this was an interesting read and gave me a lot to think about. I disagree with some of what was said, especially about trying to embrace traditionally masculine traits in a pro-social way. I don't know about all that. The comments about sex, in particular. The idea of teaching young men and boys to "be good" by using the chance of having sex with desirable women left a sour taste in my mouth. That echoes the same misogynist sentiments we hear from the Tates and their ilk. Not every urge that we feel should necessarily be glorified. I'm not saying we should teach boys that sexual urges are bad, but there is a certain benefit(? I can't think of the exact word I want...) to self-regulation.

Here's my sweet girl, Peanut! She is a very vocal lady and likes to roam around our apartment yelling when she wants attention. She can be agressively cute when she wants to be, but also has a gremlin side that she is not afraid to show off.

She also loves to bring us toys when she wants to play. If we don't take the hint, she just keeps bringing more until there is a small mountain of her favorites. And she's a notorious foot-biter in the bathroom and when she wants more attention.

Most of the time, she's very sweet, though! She loves snuggling and always meets us at the door when we get home!

Very good additions, I think. And well reasoned on the distinction between logical and accessible sorting of groups and subgroups. As many others have said, I think it's good for certain groups (like ~lgbt) to remain top-level, especially if those groups pertain to margianalized peoples. In that respect, I'm very glad, as well, with the choices for ~life subgroups. I think those will be useful for creating some more concentrated discussion in particular topics, at least to start.

I am a little perplexed in the inclusion of ~life.style... Wouldn't it maybe fit a little better in ~design? But I don't know, and I guess these are really just to test the waters with some of these new groups, so maybe it'll end up working really well!

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Slay the Spire is fantastic. The strategy is deep and it requires a lot of thinking and you unlock new possible cards as you go, but it's not a TCG. Instead it's a rougelike deck builder where you have to balance your desire for damage, health, combat rewards and interesting events as you climb higher and higher to... slay the spire?

It's a lot of fun, though, and while RNG can be a pain, the feeling you get from a great run is hard to match! Plus, it's on PC, console, and mobile, so you can scratch your itch whenever you like :)

I made a little WebView wrapper specifically for the purpose of having an app shortcut, rather than home screen clutter. It just uses Android's native WebView and the Tildes website, no extra libraries or anything. Super simple. I'm putting the final touches on an update that should be out soon to add a bit extra functionality. If you're interested, you can download the release on GitHub.
