What are you looking forward to?
A milestone, an event, a vacation, etc.
Tell us all about it and why it means something to you.

I'm looking forward to quitting my job. It's become increasingly difficult to moderate the quality and other impacts of AI-driven development and leadership failure. That's causing me excessive stress and moral injury. No more details given, it's too close to personally identifying and career-impacting. I used to love my work, in the same manner that many others here have commented, but things are continuing to change in all the bad Reverse Centaur ways.
I should be able to afford retirement in a few more years, barring financial and other crises. I've built up a long list of social, volunteer, political, hobby, and other life-affirming activities that I've put off way too long while chasing the Almighty Dollar.
Same! Except that I'm a couple of decades away from retirement :')
I'm sorry to hear it - best option is to look for another job with better working standards, or if you're like me build another career entirely. I've just been through multiple cycles of this and I'm tired, let alone re-tired.
Judgement Day is very unlikely to happen but if it did I think it would be interesting to watch.
Less realistically, I hope we will live to see a day where the mountain of corruption in government and business comes crashing down, and that cold impartial justice is served. No more protecting the child rapists and the sex trafficking ghouls. No more war crimes. Accountability.
I know there are periods where history waxes and wanes. I know, from 1930-1945 must have felt like hell, for example. Rightfully so.
It's crazy to me how I feel like for the last decade I've been taking crazy pills. Nobody seems to care about sense, kindness, cooperation, or thoughtfulness.
My hopefulness lies in seeing most people I know, regardless of political leanings, as being disgusted by this. I hope a day of reckoning comes soon. I do hope a day comes where justice is served as well.
I hope since it's been so long, things will come back around soon. Wishful thinking I suppose.
I can't wait for the post-apocalyptic video of Dubai urban exploration, it's gonna be lit!
I was raised Christian and I still assumed you were talking about Judgement Day from the Terminator movies.
But yeah, it would be nice if we could find someone with a spine to fight the corruption and help eat the billionaires.
In would also like a human to step up but I don't think that exists in the way we think it does. Iv been saying for years that the people need to step up and be angry. It sounds cheesy but we do need some sort of revolution where we the people just over turn the current world order.
The obvious issue is that many of us will die. Billionaire's won't let one single individual bring the whole system down. So we have to take the risk. Its not ideal but I don't see another way really.
They are angry. But to date their anger directionless at best, or completely misguided at worst...
Undirected anger isn't something I look forward to, because it's so much easier to wreck something than it is to build something.
I'd argue we need more constructive, focused builders, and fewer wreckers. At every level of society.
Completely agree
I'm nearing the end of a six and a half year personal project, which I was never sure would see completion when I first started it. In fact, large projects like this in the past for me have almost always been abandoned, but I was motivated to see it through this time and prove to myself that I could do it.
Lots of other things got in the way, including new (now old) hobbies, new and different projects, my kid that went from two and a half to almost nine now and the addition of my new kid where there wasn't before who is now six and a half.
There's still more to go and there will undoubtedly be kinks to work out once it's all back together, but I hit a major milestone this weekend after a five hour day of working on it and pretty much everything from here on out is pretty little and easy.
In September my favorite novelist China Mieville is releasing The Rouse, his first novel in years and years; around the same time my favorite game developer Remedy is releasing their new game Control: Resonant; around the same time the ladies I live with will be going on a vacation, so I get a break from my cleaning duties and will be able to really immerse myself. Oh, and I have s'mores brownies that I came up with about to come out of the oven, that's gonna be great
You've just made my day with the news of the new Miéville release!
A good friend of mine moved across the country years ago and I’m flying out to see them in a few weeks. I’m stoked.
I'm getting into Trench Crusade (tabletop wargame, think Warhammer) and creating armies to play with my friends. I'm getting the last pieces I need to play for my birthday soon, so I'm excited for my birthday in a way I haven't since I was a kid
My family is planning to go to Japan later in the year, which we've talked about doing for a long time. I'm hoping I can get tickets to watch Sumo in person while I'm there since I've been following the sport for years (though I've not been able to watch the end of the current tournament just yet due to being busy). My old boss mentioned not being able to get tickets when he went last year, as he wasn't willing to pay the reseller price, and I'll be in the same boat. I've heard with the current crop of top guys being very popular the tickets have been selling fast, so fingers crossed on my end. If I can't get the tickets in person I talked with my family about me getting some time to visit the sumo museum in the Ryogoku Kokugikan. My wife offered to find one of the sumo experience tours, and while they seem cool I'd rather save my money and get some merchandise and then come back at some point in the future to watch in person.
My wife and I have also been talking about having another kid potentially next year which would be very exciting. I've always wanted a big family, but the current economy had me conclude having a large family just wouldn't work for the quality of life I'd like to ensure my kids have.
I'm looking forward to the entire collapse of the AI bubble and hopefully Capitalism in its current form with it. People are undervalued for all the labor we put into things and it's been going the way of the slow boiling frog since the end of WW2. The concentration of wealth in the hands of the few is a crime against humanity and the exploitation that comes with is downright humiliating to everyone who defends it.
My daughter 1st birthday party is this Saturday. I opted for more traditional korean birthday, so the party for her grandparents than for her. But I'm still excited and it'll be good to celebrate her heritage.
I'm looking forward to the day when my daughter is old enough to function without me and then I'm done
