Eleven days
Eleven more days of this shit year and we're done.
Now I know things won't get better magically right away but ... Fuck it, i don't think I need to justify this.
What's everyone doing for the next two weeks?
I'll mainly be dealing with moving to another school (9th grade is a cutoff in my school) and watching the Georgia runoffs. (Offtopic but the year doesn't end until the runoffs to me.) I'll also deal with my glasses with my parents (because, being a 15-yo teen, I'm still growing up in the literal sense and so are my head, eyes and myopia.) My mother also decided to sign me up to see the psychologist regularly (mainly because lacking friends and generally not interacting much or at all socially) so I'll also be doing that. The repoening deadlines for school kept being pushed back and back (to not many people's surprise) and after the municipal elections in Brazil, they moved us down a level or 2 in reopening so I'll probably just pick up the numbers of the people I'll want to keep. (And hopefully they won't mind that.) I'll also be asking here about some more things I want to do with my new phone.
Edit: And my sideburns and chin hair are back, so go trim my hair too, probably.
Whatever happens, I still feel like Celebrating new years' 2021 feels like celebrating new years' 1930 or 1919...
I didn’t realize you were a teenager...
Why don't you have a seat?
What is a Georgia runoff?
The state of Georgia had a couple of Senate races where nobody had a majority, so they're re-doing them with the leaders from the previous election, or doing a "run-off" of the highest voted candidates.
I see. Doesn’t seem like a life changing event, unless you’re from Georgia.
You know, the other day I was talking to my cousin about how elections in the US feel like a not so simple board game, with a bunch of rules that no one can memorize. That’s what felt like for us a Brazilians, at least.
It's very important beyond Georgia because those two Senators will determine the balance of the Senate as a whole, and from there, how likely the Democrats will be to be able to do much.
Given that control of the US senate is at stake if both Democrats win, which is important for passing judges and legislation there, it does seem a fair bit more important than that.
Still, I admit it's a uniquely US-American endeavor.
Edit: And I absolutely agree with your cousin, and I've spent enough time on US politics to actually kind of know the rules.
I can see that, but dude, as a fellow Brazilian, maybe relax a little bit, you know? There’s always something going on.
Of course. But that was a hell of a ride, and we’re not even in the US. My anxiety or relaxation will not impact the results. There are plenty of things going on here too. There are limits to my ability to parse information, and at some point I must put my mind at ease.
Both me and @kuromantis are Brazilians who live in Brazil, I would not say the same thing to a North American.
It's actually not even a life-changing event if you're from Georgia, but the outcome will significantly affect American politics.
My wife is having our second child Monday, then I’m kicking it at home for a while. Felt great to put that out of office message up yesterday.
Congrats dude!
Congrats, man! Really glad to hear you two are doing well.
Congratulations to you and your wife!
I'm going to be starting a new job on the fourth, I'm leaving the long bemoaned call center behind me and going into a job assembling computers and medical equipment, so my next two weeks is clearing all that up and being all kinds of split up between never having to work a phone desk again and having to go outside my house for extended periods of time again.
Oh well done that new job sounds fun!
That's a really neat sounding job, happy for you.
I worked a call center a while back when I had trouble finding another job. Good job on getting out!! In my area it paid really well, but I found it to be truly miserable work. So congratulations!
Got the rest of the year off and part of the new year. I'm gonna sit around and do nothing! Actually, I'll definitely be catching up on some shows I've been meaning to. I hope to spend some time making some music. I don't do enough of that. I might try to get some photos of the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, but not sure how visible it will be from the city. And of course, I'll mess around with my programming projects. Oh, and maybe more hummingbird videos. We'll see.
I'm taking 10 days off but probably not doing much (go out take pictures). Maybe we'll do something with my family but not sure. That said reflecting on the past year, it was a good year for me. I'm more scared of the end of the pandemic and the return to society.
You know what? This has been the worst fucking year for me and that's for reasons that have absolutely zero to do with Corona, Trump or Brexit. It's like a vortex of shitty.
My last day of work for the year was this past Thursday.
Not sure what I've got planned, the missus is still working, so I'll try to mostly stay out of her way, maybe spend some more time learning Laravel.
While my experience is a decade and a half out of date, be prepared for your doctor to push back on your desire to have a vasectomy, especially since you don't have kids. You have the right to have that procedure, and you may need to get another opinion or your referral to surgery from somewhere else. Stand strong, and be clear that it's your choice.
Yeah, this happened to me even in my late 30s. Had been married 10 years, had no interest in kids, and got (mild) pushback from the doc.
One thing he suggested, and I think is a reasonable idea, is to bank some of your sperm on the off chance you change your mind in the future. If you ever decide to have kids, you'll be able to do it much more easily with some banked stuff, but it will never happen accidentally. And if you don't, nothing lost. (Well, other than the money it costs to store them for you.) I think it also gave the doctor peace of mind that I wasn't going to come back in 5 years screaming at him about, "Why did you let me do this?!"
It's been about 10 years since I looked into it. I think this was the place I called. It looks like if you bank it for 10 years it's about $2850US. So there is some cost involved. I had forgotten about aspiration. I haven't spent much time looking into that, but it sounds interesting.
Oh, and to answer your question, I didn't end up having anything frozen or even getting the surgery because our life situation ended up changing at the time.
Finishing out a few last things, and then closing the business between Christmas and the end of the year. Just some time to not think about work might be nice, though we'll see what else there is to think about when my brain isn't busy.
I should do quite a bit of work, but the biggest stuff should be done for this year. So I want to relax and play some videogames guilt free, while still keeping up with work, so I don't get swamped once the holidays are over. I heard about a game called Omori, which I think I might enjoy. It has some Undertale vibes, so I want to play that when it comes out. I'd like to try fix my sleep schedule a bit - if possible I'd like to go back to sleeping at 1 am and waking up at 9 am. Also I am going to eat meat again for the first time in a year for the Christmas dinner, it will definitely be very special, haha.
I don't really believe things are actually going to get better in the next year, but we can hope. It would be nice if things went back to "normal".
I'm going to be wrapping up my philosophy paper (6.5 pages... phew) by re-reading it and editing it every day before it's due tomorrow, building a keyboard when the parts all come in next week, and playing videogames while I anxiously wait for my grades.
Ooh, what keyboard?
YD60, with a 2U left shift, arrow keys. Should look like the carbon preview on this page, with Mill-Max sockets. I also just ordered an ID75 case, pcb, and caps today, and should have them in a couple weeks.
