I would love to see more Mecha or Mecha adjacent games. But I'm a mecha-slut that way.

There's a big missing niche for a big combined arms multiplayer game like battlefield with a focus on mechs. Battlefield 2142 came close, and even had mechs in the game, but they weren't a huge focus.

I'd love something where the majority of players are Titanfall esque pilots/infantry thst have access to very mobile mechs, while other players are in powerful aircraft or tanks over a huge map.

I don't think enough games have done a realisticallyish modeled multiplayer battle simulation like that. We've seen a lot straight up mech games, but we haven't seen many games that really explore what being a mech pilot on a real battlefield would be like.

Same, 2142 came out right when I was hitting the age where online shooters were interesting to me. Had a blast playing it back in the day

A similar game was being solo developed for a while but I think it may have fizzled out.

TF2 was perfect on the Steam Deck. Actually played the last bits in a hotel room with the deck connected to the TV and me with controller in hand on the bed :)

I'm pretty confident that EA will dig the IP up again sometime, but probably as a life service looter shooter. Come to think of it, I wonder why they haven't done so yet.

Maybe you're just making a joke, but isn't that essentially what Apex Legends is?

Apex is very much slower titanfall. There's some movement tech and some characters who dive into it more, but no where near the level of titanfall.

And then the outrageous TTK for almost all battle royal shooters is another thing that just kinda makes their already not super well balanced weapons transfer poorly.

Yeah although I don’t totally agree with the logic I do think this is roughly accurate as to how developers making these games feel about it

I think market trends support the feeling as well. I'm one of the weird ones that doesn't mind long, slow periods between short fights. But I just play Rust for that.

It also has less than 1/10 the player count that Apex does, and PUBG is more than twice again as popular as that. 28k active is nothing to shake a stick at but it's far from the most popular entries in the genre.

No, but what I imagined was an endless grind for weapons / Titan parts that deal a percentage more damage than the last. More akin to Anthem or Destiny.

Anyway, most of those games are also almost ten years old so has the innovation within the genre just died down?

Splatoon was pretty innovative, but even then, 2 and 3 didn't change much.

Is respawn owned by EA? If so how much? I really hate it when journalists conflate the developer and the publisher. Why cause the rift between creators and creation to tear apart further?

But the lack of Titanfall support is definitely more than a little stupid.

A game being popular on reddit and the like is not the same as a game being popular in general.

Although Titanfall 2 may have sold better if EA didn't release it the same week as Battlefield and CoD. It's almost like they wanted it to fail.

The game sold 4 million dollars with an almost total lack of support or proper marketing. There are AAA games with more of both that barely get that far. It commands a dedicated cult following over a decade after release. The series has had multiple high profile community initiatives (good and ill). How many other games that are only popular with a few internet people have had the same response?

Historically, games that have been rabidly popular with small groups are the ones that are most primed to explode out big with further entries and sequels. This is effectively how the Souls games built their reputation (and sales) over time, and we're seeing it with Helldivers 2 right now. Up until last year, the first Helldivers was also a cult hit for years that a few people actively played.

So yes, it's stupid not to continue supporting Titanfall when the series is primed to take off. Especially when DICE (and therefore Battlefield) is failing, and EA has no major competitive shooter on the market except for Apex Legends, a live-service offering, which is having its own major issues right now.
