What games have you have recently completed?

I'm interested what games people are actually played to completion recently. We do talk a lot about how what games we are playing, but which one stuck with you till the end?

Although it's not a really big accomplishment because the entire game takes about a full day to playthrough.

I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys immersive story driven content (not to mention its very pretty).

Yup, his styling is actually why I picked it up (I also own all the posters). I would kill for Firewatch sequel or expansion. The world they created and the styling is superb.

I'm still midway through Ys VIII and am itching to start Torna: The Golden Country. I played the first 10 minutes and the new battle system seems like a blast.

Like most people, I have a very bad problem with starting games and not finishing them, even games I like. But God of War 2018 was an easy finish for me. I can't say much that hasn't already been said but it deserves the hype that it gets, its just an extremely polished game. The game-play is nothing ground breaking, however the way it weaved game play with the visuals, story telling and sound design brings the word "perfect" to mind. There is no mold in which all games can / should fit into but it certainly has put forth a new standard for how AAA action games should be.

It's probably the first game since any of the Souls/Borne games that I considered playing more of after I finished the main game. The only thing that stopped me was not wanting to wear it out too quickly. I'll probably return to it in the next few months to finish all the side quests.

For me, the game I've recently finished was Stories Untold, which is a great mystery game. Everything about it was almost perfect - the visuals, the story, the interactions, etc. I would hold this game as a standard of how one should approach mystery games in terms of storytelling. You also get to interact with retro-tech and it overall feels like a late-night spooky story that your friend tells you when it's just the two of you and it's quiet.

It's a good game, and it fulfils that lonely "earthbound clone" metagenre nicely. It's just a little bit overrated. I enjoyed every minute of it. At least while I was playing pacifist.

Need for Speed Underground and Underground 2. These are the childhood games which looked like magic when I've seen them first time at an older friend's place, and when I played them on my old PC. And now I relived that magic, but on hard and with a controller. Such fun games, vibrant cities, joy of various disciplines of true street racing at night in "common" tuned cars. These games are so great and unique.

Also Fortnite, until a win. I clearly struggled with this kind of game more than with street racing, but it's still a well crafted game with chill visuals and energy of always being on the move. Every time opponent's loot dropped around them was a joy of victory, and the royale one became a personal holiday.

I've gotten to one of the Hollow Knight endings but have yet to complete all four. Seeking those out has become a little bit tedious, as I've already been everywhere, so right now it's basically just about checking the remaining things off a list. I started using a guide because I've found something like 90% of the game's content, and so finding the rest is kind of a "needle in a haystack" affair. I'm still enjoying it quite a bit, though, considering how challenging the bosses are. The stuff that remains might actually be too difficult for me, but I prefer too difficult over too easy.

Before that, I finished the Mario Odyssey story, but stopped playing shortly after that. I spent about 15 hours quickly running through the story, and while I enjoyed that, ultimately I was somewhat disappointed in the game. I found myself wishing that I was Link instead of Mario so that I could have the former's moves and control set from Breath of the Wild. Mario's movements weren't as precise, and of course I couldn't climb trees/walls/etc. to explore fully. Since I couldn't explore the way I wanted to, I lost interest.

Before that, I made it all the way through Breath of the Wild's story and spent many hours exploring the game's Hyrule. It was such a joy to play and the most fulfilling gaming experience I've ever had. As a child, I loved the original Legend of Zelda and its sequel, The Adventure of Link, but even more, I enjoyed pretending to be in the world of those games as Link. I had a little green costume, a cardboard shield, and a few different plastic swords, and I loved fighting Moblins, Octoroks, Stalfos, Darknuts, etc., in my imagination. Breath of the Wild's Hyrule was exactly what I imagined as a child, so playing the game was (and somewhat continues to be) amazing for me and quite nostalgic. I've spent over 300 hours with the game, found all of the shrines, and am at something like 500 Korok seeds. Every time I play I explore and maybe find one or two more. Not sure I'll ever get all 900 of them, but it's always fun to find something new in the game's world.

Dark Souls 3 is the most recent. I decided to start new game+ just to see what sort of (excuse my French) “big dick damage” I could do with the Fume Ultra Greatsword+5. I’m progressive much faster than my first play though but I think it’s mostly due to knowing the enemies and maps better.

Next on my radar is Dark Souls Remastered but I heard it’s all but dead at this point, so we’ll see.

I dusted off the PS2 I bought a while ago and played through God of War II. I never play games like that and so I enjoyed the change of pace but some of the more tedious "hit, step back, repeat" cycles which can go on for 10 minutes in boss fights and especially the goddamn (heh) quick-time events were a huge turn-off. Main reason I stuck with it was a) I didn't want the game to defeat me and b) I wanted to see how the batshit insane story ends. And about b)...

Generally liked how over the top it was, though. Like he kills everything mentioned in ancient Greek myths. Also it looks spectacular for a game that's 2 console generations behind!

I just finished Half Life: Opposing Force today actually. I'm on a "play the classics" kick, so I'm going to start up on Blue Shift, and then Half Life 2. I think the gameplay is pretty fun so far, but I have to say that I am a bit underwhelmed on the story side. Then again my benchmark for good story is the Mass Effect OT, so I'm not sure what I expected.

playing 007 tomorrow never dies on psx which I never finished as a kid on my ps2 (s.o RetroArch!) and now I don't have to deal with wires!

Admittedly I pirated a couple games I already have physical copies of like infamous, uncharted and lbp just to keep on the hd and all the exclusives. currently finishing gta iv (wow the mechanics and attention to detail outstrip gtav in many regards)

I finished a HoI4 campaign yesterday. Decided to try to restore the Austro-Hungarian empire. Started as Hungary, annexed Austria, puppeted Czechoslovakia, so far all well. Then Germany made a claim for Sudetenland (like they always do), and I gambled that they wouldn't dare declare war on me if I refused. So I ended up defeated and annexed by Germany in 1938. Shortest campaign I've ever had.

Since the whole campaign lasted less than an hour, I decided to try again. This time I accepted Germany's claim for Sudetenland. My puppet lost some good territory, I actually gained some territory in the deal (from my puppet), so fair enough I guess. Then things got silly.

The communist party won an election in France, so they joined Comintern instead of the Allies. Germany declared war on Romania in 1938 for some reason, which was part of the alliance Poland started with the Baltic nations. So Germany was now at war with Poland without triggering the British guarantee, thus preventing WW2 (for now). Soviet wanted in, and declared war on Poland, getting half of it, plus the Baltic nations, and puppeting Romania.

The inevitable war between the Axis and the Comintern broke lose in late 1939. I don't remember the exact trigger, but I think it was something silly along the line of Communist France declaring war on Italy. Somehow Yugoslavia got involved. I declared war on Germany at what I thought was an opportune time in an attempt to regain Sudetenland. The Axis got swiftly crushed, but my effort wasn't big enough to gain anything in the peace negotiations. Soviet puppeted all of my neighbouring countries (except Switzerland). The Comintern now comprised most of Europe and most of Africa, plus the Soviet (formerly Dutch) East Indies.

The UK didn't much approve, and declared war on Germany in late 1940. The next year the USA joined the party. And Japan? They decided to be peaceful, never declaring war on China. They held the 1940 Olympic Games in Tokyo, to much rejoicing. In 1941 they joined the Allies to fight Soviet, launching an invasion from the east.

I justified a war goal against Soviet and waited for the right time to strike. Well, I thought it was the right time, but I'm currently holding on for dear life, and haven't yet decided if I'm going to keep playing or not.

This game get super silly with historical AI choices disabled and the DLC enabled.

A Bird Story was short (only about an hour) but enjoyable. It was made as a sort of intermediary game between To the Moon and its sequel, Finding Paradise. I liked it for what it was, and I think it's beyond impressive what the game designer is able to pull off within the limitations of the RPG Maker engine. That said, It has some rough edges, and I thought the pacing was slightly off for such a short game, but I enjoyed my time with it.

I also just finished a playthrough of Grim Dawn, but it hardly counts as a completion because I didn't play the game as intended. Instead, I installed a mod that gave me extra skill points and just listened to a audiobooks while cruising through the game on autopilot. The gameplay actually helps me to focus on the book, oddly enough, and it's also a great way to destress.

I just finished Zombie Army Trilogy with a friend this week... it took us 38 hs to finish and it was really fun. It's a first person shooter consisting on 3 episodes of 5 chapters each, and the gameplay is a mix between Sniper Elite and Left 4 Dead series. It's developed by the same people of Sniper Elite and the setting is the same of the first 3 games, but this time with zombies and spirits, but it's made with a lot of humor (like how DOOM presented his demons)... it's just an excuse to get more of those rewarding headshots. I very much recommend it.

Some of the smallest consequences had really big effects and I love tactical based RPGs. I, admittedly, had to look up a few things online because I didn't want people dying or having negative supplies/morale, but it's also an easy game to have a second run through. I also have the sequel and have been waiting to play that one!
