Stolen Focus by Johann Hari I listened to on Audiobook a couple years back. It certainly made me more aware of how I interact with technology and had some interesting concepts. I don't remember it perfectly well (ha) but worth a read/listen to people interested in this topic I'd say.
If for some of us quitting cold turkey might be too hard, then maybe we could use some kind of offline challenges, where people are forced to spend a month or so doing something in the real world, then come back to report/track progress at the end. That way we're not quitting per se, we're just taking a temporary break, going outside to "gather materials" for a comeback *wink *wink.
One could build a whole gym regimen on what to do and for how long in order to build up that internal resistance to checking socials. After sometimes if those offline activities ended up being so fulfilling that you don't bother checking/updating anymore then mission accomplished.
What kind of activities that could have that kind of power though, I have no idea yet.
