Spotify Wrapped coming out well before the year is actually over will always be my pet peeve. I use a last.fm account that's linked to my Spotify, Plex server, and Youtube to track all my scrobbles across platforms and time periods.
Right I have NEVER in my life speculated that and every year it just sort of pop up.
But every year, there's intense speculation on exactly when Spotify Wrapped will drop — especially because Spotify never confirms the date ahead of time.

I got the stats.fm app last year and it's been interesting to compare the differences between their counting of 2025 and Spotify's. For example, my wrapped playlist for 2025 says I played my #1 song 92 times, but stats.fm says I played it 80 times. I guess Spotify factors in some plays from December 2024? The rest of my top-5 songs are completely different between the two.

I didn't listen to a wide variety of music this year for the first time in like a decade, but instead I spent the year going very deep into the current Midwest emo scene and found a ton of really fucking cool new artists. Next week I'll go my 20th (and last) live show of the year, almost all of which featured bands I hadn't listened to before ~November 2024. It was a really fun year.

I was a little surprised not to see Agriculture on top albums/songs. I guess their new album releasing so late in the year is the reason.
I was similarly surprised to see Heretoir at the top of the song list. Although I do like them, it's not a band I've put on a whole lot of my own volition, but Spotify sure liked to put them on whenever i just let it play.
Otherwise it was pretty much what i expected.
I've been on a fairly big blackgaze/post-black kick over the last year and my wrapped definitely reflects that.
Of the bands in my top 5, if I were to recommend only one of them I'd say go give life a listen.
They only have about 16,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, but deserves way more.

They lean more death than black, but given your proclivities, I’d suggest Kardashev if they aren’t already on your radar. You can still very much feel the shoegaze influence (they tongue-in-cheek call themselves deathgaze). I’ll definitely be checking out the others of yours that I’m not hip to, given what I’m familiar with on your list already!
Don't think I've heard of them before but i quite liked them. The shoegaze influrnce is not one I've really seen implemented by many death metal bands, but i worked well.

Gave their latest album a listen and it was very much up my alley. Gonna have a listen to the rest of their discography for sure, great recommendation!

Always neat to see the wrap-up. Not many surprises at my end. If anything it looks funny because my top genre remains metal, but the top artist (Blue Foundation), song (Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter), and album are not. I got a bit obsessed with the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack for a while so of course it picked it up as my top album. There is the "music I listen to alone" and "music I listen to when driving with my wife". These are very different, but the algorithm does not know this. Anyway, still a neat little thing to see at year end.
Another thing where this falls short is other sources of music. I listen to a lot of FM radio for example. There is a station that's ad-free and plays many lesser-known songs. I find a lot of gems...

My wife often has Spotify running on the TV on a Saturday or Sunday and it's connected to my account so my Wrapped is both my own and our music.
Combined with how Wrapped is trying to connect listening to artists or albums to specific dates, something I absolutely do not remember, and it all feels a bit nebulous.

@smiles134 you might enjoy Moving Mountains. They share some DNA with the Midwest Emo bands since they started in the late 00’s in the last days of the Emo/Post-Hardcore scene, a few years before the Midwest Emo revival. Although they have more Post Rock influences in their instrumentation and have leaned into softer vocals on their last 2 albums - perfect for fall/winter listening!

Oh yeah big fan of Moving Mountains. The new album didn't have much lasting power for me though. Deafheaven is probably in my top 5 favorite albums of the year, if I made my list today.

I came across Geese in December of last year, so they were already safely in the number one spot before they released Getting Killed in September. Spotify says I'm their 3,299th biggest fan, which means that there are 3,298 absolute freaks out there because I played that band way too much in 2025.

blink-182 has been my #1 going back to like 2016 when I first joined Spotify. It's rare that I make an effort to listen to them intentionally, but I have their entire pre-breakup discography in my library, so I think they just tend to show up in shuffle the most? I mean I do sometimes get into an angsty teenaged mood and specifically listen to entire albums, but I swear I don't listen to them that much...
OCMS was something I listened to for the first time this year after a friend recommended it. I like the idea of folk/blue grass music that has a liberal lean to it. I love rural life, but I hate the politics. So something that celebrates that without the baggage of conservative undertones is so refreshing.

But it annoyingly only works for their mobile app, and it's only shareable to other people with the YouTube Music app too! So you have to manually write out the results if you want share with anyone else, which is even more annoying because it's presented as a fucking animated slideshow which you can only temporarily pause by clicking 'Share', and rewinding it goes back to the start of the previous slide's animation!!!! Anyways, enough complaining, here's a quick summary of the most interesting/relevant information from mine:

I have a not too similar, but somewhat related issue – I heavily use my own file-based collection, not at last because I have quite some music that is not and/or will not ever be available on mainstream licensed music streaming services, and I’m not using any program to track my minutes etc. there (yet?), plus it’s also spread across several devices, so it’d probably be a pain either way, especially on mobile.
Anyways, here’s my top 5 songs at least for the time spent on Spotify, which I’d say is probably around half – basically, playlists I typically listen to using Spotify and whole albums (mostly) using the file-based collection that I actually own.
Clipse, Bilal, Pharrell Williams – Nightmares
JID, Clipse – Community
Westside Gunn – Mandela
Westside Gunn, Doechii – Egypt Remix
Future, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar – Like That [edit: I’m fairly certain this was just due to one single day of having it on repeat. Directly next in line would’ve been Clipse again with Inglorious Bastards.]
I swear I don’t exclusively listen to hip-hop/rap, these are just the top 5 (here’s all if anyone wants to give it a shuffle). Spotify alone tells me I had 213 genres on the platform this year.

Yeah, my music and podcast listening is spread between a bunch of different platforms too. I use YouTube Music, Amazon Music (on my Echo devices), Apple Music (on my iOS/iPad devices), and mp3s that I bought from Bandcamp on my PC. I'd say 75% of my music listening is done through YouTube these days though, so the recap probably did reflect what I listened to most this year in terms of individual tracks and artists.
Spotify alone tells me I had 213 genres on the platform this year.
Sadly, YouTube does a horrible job of categorizing genres so it said I only listened to 10 different ones this year, but that really really can't be right since I probably listened to 10 different ones this week alone... and I listen to a lot of 'out there' stuff, like experimental choral glitch (e.g. Holly Herndon's PROTO), Buddhist and Gregorian chants (e.g. The Gyuto Monks Tantric Choir) while I'm meditating, etc. :P

All of them are actively making music and the albums I was listening to came out within the last 7 years. I will die on the hill that this is this year's AI fuck up. Last year my number 1 song was something I listened to maybe 8 times wedged in the middle of a semi-common playlist. Bring back the old team!
Spotify Wrapped coming out well before the year is actually over will always be my pet peeve. I use a last.fm account that's linked to my Spotify, Plex server, and Youtube to track all my scrobbles across platforms and time periods.
Not just that they stop counting by October
Ooh. That’d explain why some of my more recent listens weren’t represented at all.
Edit: Whatever. Nobody even looked at the source correcting the comment I've replied to so I'm just removing it altogether.
Right I have NEVER in my life speculated that and every year it just sort of pop up.
isn't it always the first week of December or am I just hallucinating
I got the stats.fm app last year and it's been interesting to compare the differences between their counting of 2025 and Spotify's. For example, my wrapped playlist for 2025 says I played my #1 song 92 times, but stats.fm says I played it 80 times. I guess Spotify factors in some plays from December 2024? The rest of my top-5 songs are completely different between the two.
My best guess would be that these two track songs/skips differently. AFAIK there's no data from last December in Wrapped
To be fair, with the amount of number crunching it takes, AI garbage or not, spending the month of November calculating all of that for the millions of users isn't unreasonable. I'd prefer if they did January to January and just delivered it in February but I'm sure nobody actually wants that lol.
Then again, I also stopped using them this year so it's a big shrug for me either way.
This can't be right, since the new Taylor Swift album released October 3rd and that's pretty up there for me.
I hope Last.fm sticks around as is. It feels like one of the last bastions of the old internet. I've used it for so many years, but the fear that it's going to succumb to enshittification also never leaves me

Not to hijack this thread, but so is Apple Music Replay. (Finally you can view it in the app — at least on iphone and ipad. On mac, you still need to access it on the web.)

If you haven't given Infant Island a listen, I highly recommend their 2024 album for a similar to Deafheaven itch
Gave their latest album a listen and it was very much up my alley.
Gonna have a listen to the rest of their discography for sure, great recommendation!
I saw them open for Vs Self earlier this year (I live kind of near where they're based). I don't think they play live very often but they did put on a great show
Always neat to see the wrap-up.
I run into this too. The “music I listen to” vs the “music my wife plays on the Apple HomePod that is linked to my account”.
Another thing where this falls short is other sources of music. I listen to a lot of FM radio for example. There is a station that's ad-free and plays many lesser-known songs. I find a lot of gems that I then add to my Apple Music library.
So glad Apple Music does replay the same day as wrapped now!
I prefer listening through albums over listening to playlists so my top artists and albums ended up matching this year.
Top artists - Top albums:
@smiles134 you might enjoy Moving Mountains. They share some DNA with the Midwest Emo bands since they started in the late 00’s in the last days of the Emo/Post-Hardcore scene, a few years before the Midwest Emo revival. Although they have more Post Rock influences in their instrumentation and have leaned into softer vocals on their last 2 albums - perfect for fall/winter listening!
I don’t have anything of substance to add, but wanted to mention that Deafheaven / Lonely People With Power were my number 3 spots as well. What a trip! Didn’t even know this band existed a few months ago and they’ve quickly become a constant presence in my rotation.
Sunbather is an all timer album for me
Oh yeah big fan of Moving Mountains. The new album didn't have much lasting power for me though.
Deafheaven is probably in my top 5 favorite albums of the year, if I made my list today.
My top 5 songs this year:
"Tell me you're a parent without telling me you're a parent."
This year I didn’t even mind the kids music choices. Kpop demon hunters music is great!
They are songs of courage and hope that ignite the soul and bring people together.
I’m not a parent and I have these songs too. Should I be worried? Haha
Top Artists:
I came across Geese in December of last year, so they were already safely in the number one spot before they released Getting Killed in September. Spotify says I'm their 3,299th biggest fan, which means that there are 3,298 absolute freaks out there because I played that band way too much in 2025.
I'm in the top 0.02% of The Sounds listeners! Can't say I'm too surprised, I went through their whole discography earlier this year and I've been listening to a few on repeat since (though it doesn't feel like 3000 minutes).
Metric are at their lowest position in my top 5 so far, coming in at number 4. When their next album drops in a year or two I'm positive they'll reclaim first place.

blink-182 has been my #1 going back to like 2016 when I first joined Spotify.

I listen to a lot of my Apple Music Queues or generated playlists, but I’m kinda surprised at the ratio between Minutes, Artists, and Songs.
Did you check out the new Tigers Jaw song that dropped today?
WHAT!? No, no I have not yet. But now I will for sure!
Edit: 30s in and already liking it
Reminds me a lot of early 2010s era Balance and Composure

Tame Impala released their brilliant album basically as soon as I switched over to YouTube otherwise they would also be in the top 5 for Spotify. And their song My Old Ways maybe would have been on there too.
Does Youtube do a wrapped? I think mine would be all Neverender - the Justice/Tame Impala collab. And absolutely a banger from Tame Impala this year!
It does, but it's annoying AF:

YouTube Music also has a recap:
https://music.youtube.com/recap
I swear I don’t exclusively listen to hip-hop/rap, these are just the top 5 (here’s all if anyone wants to give it a shuffle). Spotify alone tells me I had 213 genres on the platform this year.
In terms of albums, my favorite and also most-listened to this year is, to nobody’s surprise, LGSEO.
Mine is reflective of about 60% of my listening. I have a memory card with music in my car, vinyl sometimes at home, a good chunk of radio (FM and some internet radio particularly SomaFM - old school - that I play in a browser when I work from home). I take my Apple Music wrap-up with a grain of salt.
Your chant music made me think of the album Advaitic Songs by Om. The first song, Addis, is a chant. Very cool album.
Hermanos Gutiérrez. That's it. That's my wrapped.
My top 5 songs this year have mainly been ones that I've been learning for karaoke:
Mine is all skewed. I think I need a 'sleep music' account like I have for 'dinner music and home assistants' --

it thinks I am 23 years old.
7539 songs listened, 3631 artists, 91998 minutes... and I'm a leader of Cloud State Society -- whatever that is.
In reality, for spotify, I mostly listen to soul, jazz, dark techno, east coast rap from the early to mid 90s, lots of death grips... and then this nordic jazz for sleep, cooking, etc.
Alright let's see what we got here...

I had 18717 minutes of listening, while I listened to 15 albums and 852 artists.
My listening age was 20 (practically half of my actual age) and my "Listening Club" is Cloud State Society, where I'm a 'specialist.'
YouTube Music stopped tracking me in January, so I took matters into my own hands and just made Topsters.
5x5 new albums I listened to
3x3 + 1 of what I was listening to on repeat
Did anyone get a music age under 70? Mine was 78 and all of my top bands/songs are decidedly current.
For top artists I had:
All of them are actively making music and the albums I was listening to came out within the last 7 years. I will die on the hill that this is this year's AI fuck up. Last year my number 1 song was something I listened to maybe 8 times wedged in the middle of a semi-common playlist. Bring back the old team!
