Possibly changing Tildes Book Club schedule?
A Couple of library users have said Project Hail Mary is going to take time to get ahold of.
Edit Based on responses so far I propose the following schedule
We will discuss Cloud Atlas in early March,
Piranesi in Mid April,
The Dispossessed in Late May
And Project Hail Mary at the end of June.
Can those of you who use libraries, check our four books and see if there is one to start with that is less in demand? Please report back with hold times and we can see if a different schedule works better.
Books are the Dispossessed, Cloud Atlas, Project Hail Mary, Piranesi.

Thanks for the ping. FWIW, I think trying to shuffle around the schedule to match with every member's ability to borrow the books from a library (or related service) isn't a great idea going forward, as you're simply never going to be able to accommodate everyone's personal situation. If people aren't able to borrow the present book from the library, then if they want to participate then they'll need to find another way to read it, or sit the book out.
Perhaps that's a lack of compassion on my part, but there are plenty of other ways to get hold of the books: second hand from charity/thrift stores, borrowed from friends, pirated, and even (heaven forfend) purchased new at a local book store or online.
Agreed but also because the nature of Tildes should allow people to return to discussions books they don't get done in time or that they find later.
I suspect I won't always keep up with the book club as I'm often reading other things and may be waiting on a library hold myself. But that's ok

Next time I will consider availability from the get go. But also Cloud Atlas is available used for cheap. Hail Mary is still riding a popularity wave.

Piranesi has a three week wait, Cloud Atlas and Hail Mary are both available but with only one physical copy in stock. The Dispossesed sadly doesn't seem to be in my library but, hell, I can easily hit up a bookstore for that one.

awesome, thank you for giving the library crowd a chance. I had no problems getting or booking these, except for the Ursula Le Guin one , seems to be very very popular.
Dispossessed is old, if you can afford a used copy or want to pirate...
I'm happy you will participate. Next time I will consult the library crowd upfront about schedule limitations.

I'm not opposed to getting a copy either, except I'm trying to escape my terminal tsundoku condition.....

I have LA City and County library cards and this is what my Libby lines look like:
Cloud Atlas - no wait
Piranesi - no wait - 2 weeks depending on the version of the book you select.
The Dispossessed - 6 weeks
Project Hail Mary - 14 weeks

I already put cloud atlas in hold, and I'll have it in a couple weeks. hail mary project i was considering getting through a free audible trial. Piranesi I'll see how I'm feeling closer to and either find a physical copy or sit out, not a big deal. Dispossessed i read fairly recently :)
No restrictions on my side, but a suggestion: going forward, we could do a vote for which book (from the list) we should do next. That way, we can take the availability into account without having to do any significant reshuffles. (Full disclosure: this is how we do it at my work book club, and it works pretty well.)

I don't anticipate future reshuffles. I hadn't taken library availability into account, so I did it this time. I hope enough people see the edited schedule that we don't have a collision of expectations next month.
