The Ninth Jedi, Andor aside, is the best Star Wars we've had in a long time.
I’m not a Star Wars nerd, I only like the Original Trilogy and two thirds of the sequel trilogy. But, I’ve had the idea for the past year of a sort of Duology. Doing like a House of the Dragon...
I’m not a Star Wars nerd, I only like the Original Trilogy and two thirds of the sequel trilogy.
But, I’ve had the idea for the past year of a sort of Duology. Doing like a House of the Dragon thing where it’s set however many hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga. I think The Acolyte was doing that. But I wanted something that predated Jedi’s and Sith’s, like the beginning eras of those religions and the origins of a bad guy that would eventually lead to the Sith.
That’s a broad idea and I mostly had visual ideas. Such as the tech looking more archaic and stone-like. Action scenes on a planet with fire and water colliding with one another. Using VistaVision and IMAX 70mm.
I’m not much of a sci fi writer or keen enough to learn enough about the lore of Star Wars. But, I was hoping Disney would do something like that as opposed to continuing the Skywalker saga which already ran its course and which was already milked for 7 billion dollars.
If we go by older things (Expanded Universe before the Disney nation attacked), it actually happened the other way around: the Red Sith were a singular species with a massive lowercase-e empire...

They were based on a planet called Korriban, and were later followed by Exar Kun's Sith, and later (?) Revan. The "rule of two" Sith were something that came millennia later. They're basically LARPing.
The original Jedi were a rebellion against the original Sith empire, and their developed philosophy was a direct reaction to that abuse of power.
At least, that's my half-remembered understanding from one point in time. There was also a Sith empire following the Hyperspace War...which is depicted on the wall of Palpatine's office in the prequels. This particular one is considered modern canon, as it has references in the films. (And I've been saying for years that would be an excellent thing to explore.)
Some form of this probably would make for a good movie, but I highly doubt the untitled "origin of the Jedi" film that Disney does have on their roadmap will be anything like that. It will probably be a coup de grâce on the foundations of the whole series instead.

I think one of the reasons Andor worked for a lot of people (I haven’t seen it) is that Tony Gilroy has no reverence for the source material. And you need someone like that to enter and deliver something unique that breaks away. I think that’s why The Last Jedi worked so well.
Frankly, I think it'd be neat to just explore more of the universe outside of Jedi. Have ever since I saw that SNL sketch with a bunch of fake Star Wars shows, and one of them was a space CSI....

Reminded me of my teacher raving about a short story based on the couple in the cantina, and how the female ended up later killing the guy because of her species' mating practices. (Actually on that note: just straight-up adapt a bunch of the short stories, novels and comics. Would probably be a lot smoother and more coherent.)
They have a whole galaxy's worth of world-building to work with. They can do a lot of fun stuff outside the Skywalker family drama. Seriously just... Don't even touch the last trilogy, too messy
