Megathread: April Fools' Day 2020 on the internet
It's already started a little, but over the next day or so, the internet will be filled with jokes, pranks, fake "announcements" from companies, fun interactive activities, games, and so on. A lot of these can be quite clever and interesting so I think posting about them in general is fine, but in the interest of preventing them from completely taking over Tildes, let's try to keep as many of them restricted to this thread as possible. Ideally, a separate top-level comment for each individual item would be good.
If something particularly discussion-worthy comes up (like an ARG or activity that a lot of people want to talk about), a separate thread is reasonable, but please make sure it has the "april fools day" tag. That way, if anyone wants to avoid seeing the April Fools' Day threads, they can use the topic tag filters and filter that tag out.
The above text was taken from last year's April Fools megathread, so I figured we continue with the same idea this year. :)
Finally the KDE and Gnome projects have seen the light and are merging efforts in Knome.
LOL @ the RAM usage chart. Too bad the download button doesn't obscure the link it leads to though... I would recognize that ?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ anywhere, and I refuse to be rolled again! :P
That BSOD lookalike in the middle of the page is a nice touch.
"The configurability of GNOME paired with the simplicity of KDE!"
I thought this was supposed to be April Fools?
Lock Picking Lawyer keeps his tradition of heavily innuendo laden videos for April 1st.
LPL makes such compelling content, and I'm not sure I can even explain why. I'm only moderately interested in locks or locksports, and yet I will sometimes find myself watching his videos back to back for an hour.
Today Google stops funding climate change deniers
Sad that this has to be fake, but ah well!
Is this actually fake?
Google sometimes releases stuff on April 1. Gmail came out on April 1 2004 for example. If that's a joke, it's been a pretty long lived one.
Definitely fake. See the footer:
It was built by Extinction Rebellion.
It worked. I bought it.
I hate the internet on April 1. It's so useless. It's especially shit when the internet is how we do about 90% of our interactions right now.
I find the vast majority of the "pranks" to be so uncreative and unfunny that I just try to avoid the web as much as possible.
It's a shame because there are some genuinely brilliant and imaginative pranks, like when reddit subs r/soccer and r/nfl (IIRC) changed their respective flairs and members from both subs went along with it, cross posting and having fun with it, genuinely heart-warming.
It could not escape me that this topic is marked as official, though it is posted neither in ~tildes.official nor by @Deimos.
DIUC that you are now a co-admin (or, at least, a lesser admin rather than just a user with very elevated privileges)? EVEN BEFORE go1dfish ???
Yeah, I just marked it official to draw more attention to it, so people will be more likely to know to post AFD stuff in here instead of starting separate topics. I did the same thing last year.
Maybe this IS the April Fool's joke for Tildes?
"DIUC": typo or new acronym? No google results.

Aha. It seems I did not understand correctly, then.
Do I Understand Correctly
Thank you.
Overwatch has modified all the characters to have googly eyes. It's pretty great.
This april fools my dad (who is 89 and has emphysema) amused himself by calling everyone in his contacts list and telling them we had the covid and we were all gonna die.
If my dad did the same I wouldn't know whether to be upset after finding out the joke, relieved or congratulating him for such morbid humor, which I love.
Much better than last year, at least. Even if you need to use newreddit now.
/r/Denmark thought it was a good idea and/or funny to close the subreddit in the middle of a pandemic. So now nobody can post important news or anything else for that matter... One of the worst April fools' jokes I can remember.
If your important news source is a subreddit you're already fucked.
I has actually been very quiet and I must say I like it :)
Jomez Pro releases their "Follow Flight" app.
Every year Rough Country puts out a video that normally does a great job of making fun of themselves.
Replicant's (Android ROM) blog post about supporting a new device was interesting, to say the least.
I might update this comment if I see anything else interesting, but this year's April 1st seems more bland than I expected.
AlternateHistoryHub made a video on what if trump was never president.
