It's quite convenient timing that Musk decided to move SpaceX HQ to Texas for political protest reasons just after his Starbase in Texas became fully operational this summer. I imagine he has been planning to move there for a while, but he took the opportunity to connect it to culture war issues and post about it on his platform.
If he's so serious about the issues, why not move Tesla, too?
ETA: It turns out they have actually moved their headquarters to Austin while maintaining their presence and old HQ in CA.
Honestly, I think Musk probably has a mental illness given other ways he has behaved. He is one of the richest men in the world. He can enjoy anything and do anything. His choice? Being a...

I'm not in a position to say whether Musk is mentally ill or not. But I think more generally jumping to characterizing right-wing reactionary politics with mental illness is counterproductive. It (at least partially) absolves these people of responsibility for their horrible statements and actions, while also further contributing to the stigma that the mentally ill face regularly. I can understand wanting to speculate on various public figures like this, but ultimately I think blaming their disgusting opinions or behavior on mental illness is something that shouldn't be taken lightly.
It's a way to avoid holding him responsible for his actions. He might have a mental health condition. He also still says and does shitty things. There's no particular indication that the two are...

He's always been this shitty, people just "have to" listen to him now. And the more people listen the more he insists on saying. The more he thinks he's right.
I took it as hyperbole. But I can definitely see some public figures legitimately having mental illness. And in some ways I agree, it doesn't excuse them. But when the people around them follow...

My point is more that we should try to avoid using mental illness as a hyperbolic insult, since that adds to stigma that often contributes to real-life poor treatment of mentally ill people.

This is veering off of the topic, but I think obtaining that level of wealth requires a mental illness. If it's physical items, we call it hoarding, but when it's currency, we call it success,...

I genuinely wonder if Musk ever learned to take criticism in a healthy manner, or even had the opportunity for that.
That is a good point. People born rich or rich for a long time are cut off from honest feedback. As far as negative feedback goes I've read that Musk's father was "eccentric" and in a negative...

I see, I originally googled "Tesla HQ" to confirm what I thought, and it said Pallo Alto, but googling "Tesla Headquarters" shows Austin. I guess Pallo Alto is just "Tesla HQ California" now.

So fuck him. I can't afford a Tesla and if I was in the market for an electric vehicle, it would be Leaf or something like that. Twitter/X is a cesspool of racists and fascists now. I can't wait for reality to catch up with Elon and his overinflated stock price fall through the floor.
Given that he himself is transphobic and has a trans daughter who's no-contact with him, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he is intimately familiar with those good reasons and opposes it anyway.

I'm inclined to use my cars until they wear out (no, I'm not contradicting my earlier post about buying multiple new cars over the years, I used to have to drive a LOT and would put nearly 200k miles on them before replacing them), so it'll probably be another 4 or 5 years or more before my next purchase since my current vehicle just turned over 100k miles and I hardly drive at all anymore, but I guarantee it will NOT be a Tesla.

He moved Tesla and has had a hate boner for California since the pandemic so this is the least surprising news ever. Blaming it on culture war bullshit was probably just a nice cherry on the cake...

Yeah, no one would move companies because of that. Not even him is this dumb. He's just taking the opportunity to promote his transphobic views.
Honestly, I think Musk probably has a mental illness given other ways he has behaved.

You likely already know this, but Musk's story was not rags to riches. It was riches to more riches. He was born into a wealthy family.
Generational mental illness.
Lots of mental health issues are genetic or otherwise cluster in families.
Given how much power his wealth gives, I wonder if anyone has ever really known him. When someone has that much influence people always try to get something out of you, or just hate you for your existence.

They’ve already moved Tesla’s HQ to Austin.
IIRC most of the engineering folks stayed in California. The people who moved were mostly biznizz peeps.
I don't disagree with your general point, but Tesla is headquartered in Austin.

I guess it's true what they say: when the transphobia brainworms start their wiggle of doom, they just don't stop.

Didn't he already move his business from California to Texas?
He moved Tesla and has had a hate boner for California since the pandemic so this is the least surprising news ever. Blaming it on culture war bullshit was probably just a nice cherry on the cake for him.
