~Random acts of Steam Sale
So I was thinking since we're still a smaller community things like this could actually foster some decent games talk and make friends the best way I know, begging for stuff!
Post a want with some bullshit reasons for being a cheap wanker, see if someone might be willing to toss some virtual things your way! If you do get your wish, be sure to give a write up on what you thought of it.
If you want to gift someone, pm for steam nick plz.
W:https://store.steampowered.com/app/332200/Axiom_Verge/ - Just saw this awesome Metroidvania at SGDQ and would love to play it but the cash I'm throwing at the screen is not working. Oh yeah did I mention it's available for Linux? I NEED THIS NOW. I'll pay it forward tomorrow when I can stick some of these biĺls into a proper slot!
Gee thanks sxo, great gift. I'll report back when I have some time to play it!
I can't purchase games for anyone (saving up to buy a new computer at the moment so haven't even bought any games for myself this sale)... but I do have a ton of unused Humble Bundle keys for games I already own. If anyone wants one, just let me know:
p.s. I think one game per person is most fair... but if there is a second game you want too let me know and if in a couple days if nobody else has requested it I will send you that one too.

Scroll down to the bottom for the comment box. It's put there for a reason, so that you read the thread first and then reply, but it can be confusing for the first time.
Well that makes a lot of sense. Thank you so much.
Scroll to the bottom of the page ;)
Could I have the mark of the ninja key please?
Extra credits did a video analyzing the design choices that made Mark of the Ninja a good stealth game, thought you might be interested in this.
Any chance I could grab that Little Inferno key? I've been wanting to play that for a while – the other Tomorrow Corporation/2D Boy games I've played (World of Goo and Human Resource Machine) have been loads of fun, but I spent all my money for this sale on the Valve Complete Pack and the Summer Sale Puzzles Bundle :P
Sent! Enjoy.
Yup. Will PM.
Hey! Could I have the 2014 F1 or Planetary Annihilation?
Thanks!
Don't need any keys, just wanted to say thank you for the contribution of keys.
It's no biggie. They were just sitting there unused in my Humble Account anyways... at least now some people get to enjoy them. :)
Dude, you're doing it wrong ;)
Sorry if this derailed your topic... I just thought it was a good opportunity to offer up what I actually had to give rather than contributing nothing.
Hey, I'm the guy who made you ask for sarcasm tag! Still would be useful so I wouldn't have to be winking constantly.
I did kinda hope for more personal touch on this thread, but who gives a fuck, free games yay! I'll be off to deposit some cash so I can buy that damn metroidvania I wanted to play while high last night. And I guess I got a few bucks to spare so got any requests? :)
Oh yeah I remember that. IIRC I also admitted to being completely oblivious to sarcasm so that probably explains why even with the winky I didn't get it, LOL. And yeah I agree, a sarcasm tag that OPs can apply on their own comment (once comment tags get re-implemented) would be immensely helpful to both of us! :P
And yeah, now that you mention it, I can definitely see how a more personal touch was your intention so perhaps I should have asked people to briefly explain why they wanted one of the games I was offering. I can still do that though I suspect it's a bit late. :(
At the very least, hopefully people will come back after they play the games and talk about them some more, as you originally wanted them to.
And thanks, I appreciate the offer but I honestly have way too many games as it is (950+ on Steam alone)... way too many of which I still haven't played yet but want to, so any new ones would likely just go to waste on me.
PM'd. Enjoy, it's a great game.
Could I get one for The Stanley Parable?
Sure. PM'd
It's a fantastic walking sim... make sure you try everything, even nothing! :P That narrator usually notices and will call you out on it.
SpaceChem seems nice; I have never actually played anything by Zachtronics, but he seems to make some very nice games. If you still have it, I'll take that.
PM'd. And yeah, SpaceChem is a really fantastic puzzle game... @deimos was a huge fan of it as well, so much so he even created a really cool site for level statistics and leaderboards but after a few years Zachtronics actually started including most of its features in the base game so he shut it down.
I love Zachtronics' stuff. All their games follow the same theme but they're different enough from each other that they don't get repetitive. Basically you build machines that create things. I just snagged Opus Magnum in the Steam sale. It's basically an evolution of this old flash game called "The Codex of Alchemical Engineering" that Zach Barth made back before he formed Zachtronics.
Heard a lot of good things about Stardew Valley, so of you have that one let me know ;) As someone who has just graduated and is living on a budget, buying games isn't really high up on my list of priorities, but pirating them just feels wrong.
PM'd... I tried to love it but wound up cheating out of impatience to experience the content. Hopefully you will find it more fun than I did. ;)
Appreciate it! I'll let you know how it goes, patience has never really been a huge virtue of mine, but perhaps this time it'll be different.
I've yet to 'beat' the game (as if it could be beat), but if you love Harvest Moon you'll love Stardew Valley!
Man, you're like my long lost brother.
I see tons of people literally in love with that game and I can't find the "fun" part of it :(
Yeah, it felt like an insane grind to me. The energy system and short days + short seasons severely limits the amount of things you can do and the sheer amount of upkeep required for everything means you spend more time maintaining your existing property than exploring or doing anything fun. I would up using CheatEngine to significantly slow down energy loss, the day/night cycle and seasons and reduce the amount of busywork required for upkeep... then it wasn't so bad and I actually started having a bit of fun with it, but I still was not in love with the game by any means.
I think my main problem with casual life-sim style crafting games like Stardew Valley is they often feel like they require so much actual work to get to anything actually fun or enjoyable that I don't see the point. And since I have so many other games in my library that I want to play, they feel even more like a huge waste of time. At least with minecraft there is the social and creative aspect when you play with friends... but Stardew Valley doesn't even have that going for it since it's single player only. :/
SV actually did recently get beta multiplayer on PC, although i haven't tried it yet so i couldn't tell you if it's any fun.
Maybe the gameplay just isn't for you though. I think the resource/energy/time management and planning is exactly what makes it so satisfying for some people.
Yeah, I do understand the appeal but it's just not my cup of tea. I may give it another go once multiplayer is properly released though since that adds a significant element to the game that I actually do enjoy.
I'll take Spintires if you don't mind! Seems like a chill game to relax to. Though I'm the guy that enjoys truck sims, so yeah. Thanks for sharing the love with this post.
PM'd... it's a fun game especially multiplayer.
Thank you so much! It has multiplayer?? Oh man, friend is going to get a kick out of it.
NP... and yeah, it has coop multiplayer and it's a lot of "fun" (the game is insanely difficult but working with other people to accomplish the map missions is really enjoyable). IIRC it's on sale on Steam right now too so if your friend needs a copy they can pick it up for pretty cheap.
I would really like spintires if it's still available.
Sorry, only had one and @woop beat you by 6 minutes. :(
Any other games that interests you?
Nah, that's okay. As long as someone enjoys it. Thanks.
NP... and are you sure? I still have plenty of other game keys available and @kaiomai
is even offering a bunch as well.
My dude, could I grab that Mirrors Edge and Divinity Dragon Commander key?
Which game of the two would you prefer? IMO, it's a bit unfair to give someone two games when someone else may want one of them. If in a couple days nobody has requested the other I can give it to you too though.
Yeah that's a good point, could I take Dragon Commander? Thanks dude.
Sure thing... PM'd. Enjoy. It's a good strategy game and the characters really grow on you as you play. :)
Can I have the Braid + Super Meat boy key, or holy shit, perhaps the Mass Effect 2 Key? That series has been on my hit list for years :O
Sure... PM'd. Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite platformers of all time and Braid is clever and gorgeous. Enjoy. :)
Thank you so much :D
NP and oh, I missed your request for ME2... if nobody else has requested it in a couple day I will send you that too.
Oh that would be awesome!!! Thank you for the opportunity!
I'd love to try Super Meat Boy!
Sure... PM'd. Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite Platformers of all time so enjoy... well, enjoy is the wrong word since it's insanely hard and frustrating. ;)
Could I snatch up that VVVVVV key?
Sure can. PM'd... it's a fantastic and difficult little game.
Great soundtrack too!
I'm not that great at platformers but I managed to collect all the trinkets. I still think it's one of my greatest achievements in gaming or life in general.
Thank you a ton!
NP, enjoy. :)
Ah okay no worries... PM'd. DA:O is one of my all time favorite CRPGs. DA2 was terrible and DA: Inquisition redeemed the series again IMO.
And as I said, if nobody wants Mass Effect in a few days I will send you that too. Another amazing game. :)
Thanks! Yeah, I've heard pretty good things about both, which is why I'm curious. I find that some of the older RPGs are pretty great. One treasure I played on a demo disc as a kid (terribly, mind you), couldn't find for a long time (because I couldn't even figure out what the name was), and finally got a copy of a couple of years ago is Legend of Legaia. Really old, completely underrated title.
I have never even heard of that one... but that's honestly not a huge surprise as I'm not a traditional JRPG fan, overall... but Secret of Mana (especially coop) is the one exception to that and tactical turn based JRPGs like Fire Emblem and FF Tactics are my jam.
I’m feeling nostalgic for Populous if it’s the game I think it is. Your a god and have to cater to your worshippers, right?
Man, populous was probably my first experience with god-sim games. Maybe even strategy game.
Loved it :)
Yeah, that's the one and it's glorious. PM'd you the key. Enjoy. :)
Euro Truck Simulator 2 or Mirror's Edge (if it hasn't been taken) would be amazing. I haven't gotten around to Mirror's Edge but it's been sitting on my wishlist for a while and I've heard great things about truck simulators as a whole
Which would game you prefer? I have a Mirror's Edge key for Origin and Steam available as well so if you want that, which platform do you prefer?
other people have asked for Mirror's Edge too so Euro Truck Simulator is fine. If no one else wants Mirror's Edge, Steam is my preferred platform! Thank you so much!
Alrighty... PM'd and if nobody else wants Mirror's Edge in a few days, and the other person who requested it as their alternative is fine with Origin I will send you the Steam version. Have fun trucking around. :)
thank you so much!
Sure, PM'd. I still go back and play Sims 3 every now and again... because Sims 4 is pretty barebones. :(
NP, and try not to be too evil/cruel to your poor sims... or do (that's half the fun!). My last game I had several of them permanently trapped in a basement suite sweat shop, constantly pumping out paintings to support my main character's lavish lifestyle on the surface level. :P
I'd love Mass Effect 2 if no one's claimed it yet! You're awesome!
Sure thing. PM'd. It's a fantastic game, as is the 3rd one. Andromeda, not so much. :(
Thanks so much! I played the first one on 360 years ago and loved it. Never picked any of the others up though.
I'd take your Hitman:Blood Money key! I made a list of keys in this thread so pick one and I'll send to you.
I copied my list so you don't have to find it...

PM your steam nick, I'll get you Tales of Symphonia.
Sure thing. PM'd... I love love love the hitman games. Slow, methodical, tactical taking apart of security details and multiple solutions to each assassination. What's not to love?
p.s. Thanks for the offer too but I actually have most of those games already. I am kind of a game hoarder, in case you couldn't tell. :P
Same here...
If you still have Car Mechanic Simulator 2015, I would love to get it. Thanks for doing this!
Oh wow. If you're willing to give me the second Stanley Parable key that'd be awesome.
Side question, what kind of specs are you looking at for your PC? I built mine last year and am always interested to hear what directions other people go.
Sure. PM'd... Stanley Parable is super fun and the narration is superb, enjoy. :)
As for what specs I'm considering:
https://techbuyersguru.com/1500-ultra-compact-mini-itx-gaming-pc-build
I already have a 980 Ti, 1TB SSD and all the peripherals so all I need is the PSU, case, mobo, RAM, CPU and fans. My current desktop is a solid steel full tower and weights about 50lbs, which is a PITA to move around, so I decided to go with Mini-ITX this time. I will probably refurb my old desktop, move it to my storage room (where my modem and hub is) and use it as a dedicated server from now on too.
Thanks for the key! Sounds like a great build.
Can't believe RAM is that expensive right now, I thought it was bad when I picked up my 16GB for $120. I honestly kinda wish I had gone Mini-ITX instead of the ATX mid tower that I chose, as my current case takes up waaay too much space on my desk.
NP and yeah RAM is crazy expensive right now... I'm hoping by the time I save up for what I want it will have dropped a bit. Thankfully the other crazy expensive thing right now (GPU) I already have and bought just before the crypto mining craze took off, so at least I didn't need to overpay for that too.
Yeah, both RAM and GPUs are crazy right now. I was lucky enough to have a friend who upgraded to a 1080 and let me borrow his two old 970s (used an R7 250 for a few weeks until he got the 1080).
Is that Hitman: Absolution key still available? I'd love to play it.
Sure is. PM'd. Enjoy. :)
PM'd... Enjoy, and yeah the movement in Mirror's Edge is superb and super fluid (except for the combat, but it's only a very small portion of the game anyways).
Is that the new(ish) Mirror's Edge or the original? I'll take it if it's the new one as I already have the original.
Naw, just the old one, sorry. I don't even own Mirror's Edge Catalyst yet.
Is the Steam Burnout key still available? Thanks for the giveaway
Sure is... PM'd and enjoy. It's probably one of my all time favorite racing games next to the original Gran Turismo and maybe Carmageddon. :P
That's getting my hopes up then. The last Burnout I played was Takedown so I'm looking forward to trying this.
Hey I'd love a Crysis 2 Maximum Edition key if one's still available ;)
Sure... which one though, Steam or Origin? I have a key for both.
Steam would be great
Sure thing... enjoy. And now that I think about it, I don't think I have ever even gotten around to playing Crysis 2 myself yet. O_o Perhaps I should do so, since I remember loving the first one.
Thanks! Yeah, I've played bits of it here and there and remember it being really fun, but I haven't actually played it through so I'm looking forward to that.
Hey is the Key for "The Swapper" still available? And are you just giving these out?
It sure is... PM'd it to you. And yep, I am just giving them out. I can't really use them since I already own the games so rather than them going to waste I figured I should hand them out to people who want them. :)
I would like mirror's edge if no one else wants it.
Sure thing, PM'd. The Steam key was already taken but the Origin key was still available so I hope you don't mind that it's for Origin.
Beggars can't be choosers. Thanks so much!
NP, enjoy... it's a really fantastic game. My only advice would be just avoid the combat as much as you can... it is a bit clunky and really breaks the flow of the game, IMO.
Can you do a no-combat play through or does it force you to fight?
IIRC avoiding it entirely is impossible but you can avoid a fair amount of it by relying on disarming and simply ignoring enemies while moving quickly/efficiently through the levels. The gunplay isn't horrible though... it just really breaks the flow of the game which is its strongest asset and makes it feel too much like every other shooter on the market.
Hey man not sure if it's still available but I've always wanted to play the Dead Space games. I'd super appreciate them! Awesome way to give back to the community :)
Start you off with Dead Space 1 on Origin? I am sticking to one game per person for now, but if nobody else asks for the others in the next few days I can send you the rest
That'd be awesome. I totally get the one game rule. That way if I don't like it then I didn't hog them all haha
Alrighty then... PM'd. Enjoy.
p.s. I hope you like jump scares and being terrified! :P
Can I get that Thief Gold? Thanks!
Sure can. PM'd. It's one of my favorite games of all time and I regularly go back every few years to replay it... but it's far from perfect and the game definitely suffers from many issues, especially due to its age. There is a really good install guide that can help you address most of them though:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=961977782
Can I get the Burnout Paradise box?
Sure can... PM'd. Have fun! It's one of the best arcade racers there is, IMO.
Nice! Could I please get Crysis 2?
Is an Origin version okay? Someone requested the Steam key before you.
Yes, thank you :-)
NP and PM'd it to ya. :)
cfabbro,
Is there a game you have been eyeing? Inquiring debaters from other places want to know.
Honestly, I have so many games in my various digital Game Libraries that I haven't played yet but just haven't had time for, it's sort of sad. Besides saving up for my new computer, that is also one of the reasons I haven't bought any new games this Steam sale since I really need to stop hoarding games and start actually playing the ones I already own. :P
The only games I am really, really excited for are Cyberpunk 2077 and Tropico 6 since those are games I know I will actually play immediately upon their release... but other than those I can't really think of any games that I really desperately want to play but don't own already, other than maybe some console exclusives... which would require me buying a PS4 first. ;)
I've got a few keys as well, if anyone wants one DM me:
Goat SimulatorHacknetShadowrun Returns DeluxeShadowrun has been on my list for some time if you feel so inclined. I’m curious if they do the rpg justice.
Sent.
All the Harebrained Schemes Shadowrun games are pretty great, IMO. They are a bit more simplistic in terms of mechanics than I would like (esp compared to the TTRPG), but the stories, settings and characters are fantastic and really draw you in.
Their new Battletech game is also absolutely amazing and incredibly deep mechanically... I just wish I had enough free time to play it more, but that's been hard since all the missions are about 30-45min each with the high difficulty settings I prefer and pace I play at. :/
I played the tabletop Battletech when I was younger (so many hexes!). What a great game. I'll have to it check the computer game. Thanks!
Thanks again for this. I was able to put a little time in and am enjoying it.
I have a few things, not really looking for anything at the moment:
31 Borderlands 21 Castle Crashers1 Portal 2Edit: Turns out I have no idea how to actually gift steam games. is email the best way?
Wow always wanted to play Borderlands. Can i have a key?
Can you pm me your steam acc? mine is the same as my ~ acc.
I would love the portal 2 key :)
Can you pm me your steam acc? mine is the same as my ~ acc.
Could I get that Castle Crashers key? Thanks
Can you pm me your steam acc? mine is the same as my ~ acc.
I have a few keys sitting in my inventory. Just PM me if you'd like them or to give to a friend.
2 1 key for InsurgencyWitcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced EditionI already have the full Witcher saga, but would highly recommend the second installment to anyone thinking of trying it out. It's a little different from the third - which is, of course, its own marvelous beast, but I really enjoyed playing it, in some ways even more than Wild Hunt.
I already requested for a game up above, but if no one claims that key for Insurgency could I cop it?
Sure, just send me a PM with your email and I'll send it your way.
Sure, but I'll need his email. It's a steam gift.
Uhh, your wishlist just says
I wish there was a linux port of Nidhogg, looks so cool!
Nidhogg is super fun... we regularly do tournaments of it at our yearly LAN party. It's really a shame where the dev decided to take the art style for Nidhogg 2 though... IMO it is super ugly, cluttered and detracts from the gameplay as a result, especially compared to the elegance/simplicity of the first one. :(
I'm feeling generous but have to be steam friends to send a gift. So if you see a random friend invite, now you know why.
This has nothing to do with the steam sale, but I have a random copy of Crusader Kings 2 that's been sitting in my steam inventory forever, so if someone wants it...
Totally against the spirit of giving, but if you haven't played CK2 you're missing out (in my opinion of course). It can be a bit of a steep learning curve, but you can quickly find hours eaten up by it.
I have a few hundred hours on CK2 already! It's quite fun. (Slightly unrelated, but to anyone reading this, check out this LP of the game.)
I have steam keys for
BattletechandStellarisif anyone is interested. I bought an extra Battletech to support the devs on kickstarter, and they threw in a Stellaris key a few days back, but unfortunately I am not interested in space exploration type games. If there is anything I want, I guess it'd be LoH: Trails of Cold Steel I or II. Played every game from Sora to Ao so I would love to know the continuation to that story, although I have forgotten much of it since they take forever between installments.
They did? I am a Battletech backer too but must have missed that. Where do I get the key? I already have Stellaris (I ❤ Paradox) but a good friend of mine was considering joining me in playing it but was unsure of spending $40 on it since they don't typically play 4x/Grand Strategy games.
It should be in your backerkit, I saw it and was thoroughly confused until I saw their update on kickstarter.
I have yet to start playing my copy of Battletech so I genuinely thought it was another key to unlock something in the game again...smh Apparently there is also a PDX Store Discount Code for 10% off, so there's that too if anyone is also interested.
Oh nice, the Stellaris key was in there! I never even thought to check the backer kit again after using the Battletech keys and I disabled Kickstarter update notifications ages ago because I back so many projects I was getting dozens of updates a week, so that explains why I never saw it. Thanks!
Yup, just PM'd you.
Oo, battletech! I've been putting off buying it since there's no Linux port but it seems like they're just about done with it so shoot me a key if you'd be so kind.
Sure thing, check your pm.
Pip pip cheerio!
Oh wait the linux version is out already?! Oh shit I had stuff to do today!
Hmm I'm not sure, last I heard it is one of the last few things they are working on after releasing that huge update. But if it is out, have fun!
Fuuck. Installed, play game, "error missing executable blah blah up yours". What a cruel joke.
I got some freebies, just send me a PM if you want anything
LOTR online, steely dawnMortal Kombat collectionTacomaThe norwood suite(I'm not sure if all of these work though)
Mind if i try the steely dawn starter pack? Thanks you
So, not completely related to the Summer Sale...
I have a random copy of FTL in my Steam inventory. If anyone is interested, drop me a line. c:
I feel like I've grabbed enough keys for myself, so here are a few I have lying around (all Steam keys, on all platforms):
SOMA –"science fiction survival horror", fairly story-heavy AFAIK so I won't spoil it. Read the description on Steam.Would be nice if the people who get the keys could write something about the games once you've played them and post it in ~games, just so I know the keys haven't gone to waste :)
I want to second 'keep talking and nobody explodes'. I was first made aware of the game by this youtube video, and it's great fun so far. To pass a level, you need to communicate well with your experts and be patient, because everyone will mess up. It's a great team building game, and the rush you get when you defuse a bomb with one second remaining is amazing.
Hey I'd take your SOMA key!
PM'd.
If anyone has an extra subnautica key, id greatly appreciate it.
I'm feeling generous - send a friend invite and I'll gift you a copy: https://steamcommunity.com/id/kemitche/
Thanks again. That game is beautiful!
After the painfully slow death of my Galaxy S5 of 3 years, I had to purchase a new phone. Great news! A brand new 2018 phone! Bad news! That phone was 511 dollars! So now I'm broke again for the sale. I would greatly appreciate State of Decay YOSE. That's really all I wanted that I didn't have. Steam name is Perineum Pincher
Zombie shooters whee, I'll grab it for you as soon as soon as I finish my morning coffee and head to the bank!
Huh, guess you can't just buy them as gift to save in your inventory anymore? That's fucked. Log in and add the dude with arachnocommunist avatar and I'll gift it to you.
Rad! I'll have to login after work but I'll definitely grab it. Thank you!
Oh shoot, I'm actually An Enemy Stand, if you haven't already added me
Hi, if it's still going, I'd like "The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II" please!
Hey there! Add me as a friend and I'll get ya hooked up! Pm'd you my steam ID.
I think they may have meant to reply to me since I listed having a key for The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing II available... did they get in contact with you already? If not I can shoot them my key and save you a few buck.
Ah, yeah that makes sense. I haven't heard back from them yet.
Alright, I'll PM them the key. At least it will save you the $5. :)
Thanks!
Thanks for following up. cfabbro sorted me out.
Yes, it was me!
Sorry if I replied to the wrong branch.
I got the key in PM, thank you very much cfabbro, that's very nice of you!
