What music would you want to listen to going into a war?
Doesn't necessarily have to be war, could be a fist fight, music for killing demons, etc. Anything that makes you feel like a badass.
It's cheesy as hell but Hells Bells by AC/DC has gotta be top of my list.
black metal in general, and Viking metal in particular, is made for this
Bathory
A Fine Day to Die (lyrics)
Blood Fire Death (lyrics)
109 and Death From Above (lyrics and lyrics) - firebombing in WW2, from the point of view of a defending fighter and an attacking bomber, respectively
Amon Amarth
Valhall Awaits Me (lyrics)
Death in Fire (lyrics)
Annihilation of Hammerfest (lyrics)
Immortal
One by One (lyrics)
Beyond the North Waves (lyrics)
Tyrants (lyrics)
On the money there, but I gotta tag on the mighty...
Bolt Thrower
Twilight of the Thunder God by Amon Amarth has been on my Heavy playlist for quite some time.
This song goes so hard. It's been on my get pumped playlist for so long, even reading the title gives me a little trickle of adrenaline.
Absolutely. Metal is made for this. Heilung and Alien Weaponry were the two that immediately jumped into my head.
Heilung has been on repeat for me for a year or more now. Such an amazing experience to listen to.
Almost anything by Sabaton, a Swedish metal band who only do songs related to war.
My wife introduced me to Sabaton, it is indeed the perfect battle music!
Feuerschwanz is also pretty awesome. I'd probably mix this excellent metal cover of Abba in, too.
Something weird from Frank Zappa.
Edit: Oh, didn't notice the qualifier "makes you feel like a badass" Might not make me feel like a badass but I'm still gonna listen to Zappa if my life is in danger.
I mean I guess it doesn't have to make you feel like a badass. Makes you feel however you want to feel before some physical aggression where you may or may not die.
I feel like going into battle and dying there is highly surreal and weird so Zappa is perfect for that mood.
I believe it was Bruce Lee who said something like "Knowledge will give you power, but Frank Zappa respect."
And to paraphrase Herodotus, "Nobody is mad enough to choose Frank Zappa whilst there is peace."
Truly, I fear the person who does not need metal to make them feel badass.
If we're doing not-metal, I'll submit a pair of marches by Kent and Vangelis to the pot. :)
For some reason I started to imagine riding a Pasi into battle while blasting Kärleken Väntar lol
I'd go with Willie The Pimp.
Help, I'm a rock.
Let me take you to the beach?
Lalala la la laaaaala
Baghdad, 2007. We listened to Dead or Alive by Bob Jovi when rolling out the gate.
Haha. I know it's a typo, but I can't help but think of Bob Jovi as some type of "mockbuster" released right before Bon Jovi released their latest album.
It's is my life
For some strong feminist energy:
For something in another language, I've been listening to a lot of Ukrainian music due to the invasion. It's heartbreaking that tragedy inspires creativity, but some of these songs are something else.
In This Moment has a couple I think would fit in this list. Particularly Comanche. Never fails to get me pumped.
Civil War - Guns 'n Roses.
At this point we should be evolved past war!
Once I was on a plane that was about to take off (or maybe land) and feeling particularly anxious. I put on some High on Fire, maybe The Black Plot? And something about the music's intensity mirrored the intensity of the experience and made me feel better. Can't really explain how that works, but now I always listen to High on Fire during takeoffs and landings if I'm feeling anxious. Perhaps war would be the same.
Every time I get on a plane I put on Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene by Hozier right as we're going down the runway, if I time it just right the song starts kicking in right as the plane starts taking off and it's about the best feeling ever.
Hozier is great plane music imo, the songs are bops when I'm awake but not too loud to wake me up if I doze off.
B.Y.O.B by System of a Down as I'm probably not there by choice.
The game Hacknet has an awesome sound track Spotify playlist here that I play when at work shit hits the fan and we need to solve it quickly.
Specially Roller Mobster is effective once the beat drops
I was going to recommend the Hotline Miami soundtrack, which also has Roller Mobster haha
Madonna's first album
back when i was wrestling, we had "Tears Don't Fall" by Bullet For My Valentine as our warmup song. definitely that.
"Let's Go to War" by Brutal Truth.
Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man! Hell yeah!
Man, how I miss Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald.
Me too, me too.
Man, if I'm in like a desperate last stand "If we die, we die with honor" type situation a la that scene from Mulan, this would definitely be my go to. Great choice!
I have a whole playlist for fighting dragons. The dragon might be laundry, a grant proposal, or actual dragons in a video game; the playlist works for a broad range of dragon slaying-style activities. Titles include:
Ridaz by Eminem always used to get me pumped for the gym. The song is literally about a fist fight so i guess it works for that too, although maybe not for a war
First I would found calm down and listen to some favorites:
Next I would transition to some struggle bar hip hop
[For something dangerous or requiring peak focus]
Finally about 5-10 minutes before go time I'd switch into "max aggression mode." This isn't a process I enjoy but have found it effective for true maximal efforts. Digging down into the darkest place I can find.
For how I would likely feel going into a war, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBUFtoC2oj4
Paint it Black.
For feeling like a badass, Nancy Sinatra These Boots are Made for Walkin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM1kzbAgo_E
Edit Leonard Cohen the partisan

Speaking of actual badasses, I just started the memoir Lady Death by Pavlichenko
https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/lady-death-red-army-lyudmila-pavlichenko
When I was a kid, I would play COD with The Offspring's Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace on shuffle. Hammerhead was like a PED, which I guess is pretty ironic given the subject matter of the song
Svrcina - Meet me on the Battlefield
This one always me feel both like winning is possible and that someone has your back.
Doesn't really matter what was playing. All I'd hear is this.
Krieg ist Geil (roughly "War is Awesome") by Blackeyed Blonde.
It's the song with the most agressive lyrics I know.
My List:
If you're gonna die, Die With Your Boots On

My go-to for team-based games is still Hammerfall - Heeding the Call and Powermetal in general.

Iron Maiden - The Trooper
3 Inches of Blood - Destroy the Orcs
Is Tropical - The Greeks
Nekrogoblikon - No One Survives
GWAR - Viking Death Machine
Pendulum - Blood Sugar
Sorry I'm late tot he party but wanted to share.
