Tildes Minecraft Survival - GG no re (End of an era)
I'm planning to wind down our server at tildes.nore.gg
. Over the last couple of months playtime has dropped significantly. Servers don't last forever unless you have a sufficient stream of new players.
I'll keep the lights on for the rest of the month. After that point the map will be released as a download.
Dang… it was fun while it lasted.
Thanks for hosting, tea! You made for a solid admin.
Oh no! This saddens me, despite knowing it wouldn't last forever. This was my first ever SMP server, and I certainly won't forget it soon.
I've really valued the time and courtesy that so many players put into this, and I'm going to miss the heck out of watching the dynmap every few hours to check on people's progress. The map download is going to be great, but what I really loved was seeing and talking with people that I recognized, and being able to see their amazing creativity, and share my meager minecraft skills with others. It's been a tough road being a stay-at-home dad, and this has served as some much needed distraction and semi-social time. A huge Thank You to everyone who contributed to this server being a welcoming, creative, and supportive place. (And a special shoutout to GravySleeve, who once logged on just to try and save me when he saw I was in trouble)
Maybe someday I'll actually play on a world long enough to fully finish my village build. Someday.
Same for me in a lot of ways john. This was also my first time playing together with others on a server and it's also been a way for me to stay semi-social. I have a feeling finding another server as special as this one has been will be hard to find.
Well the good news is that we're all still around.
something something "the real treasure was the friends you met along the way!" :D
Hear me out. Maybe, instead of shutting it down permanently, turn it off for a couple months, let people get the itch, and restart the server from scratch? With all the datapacks. Probably after the next big update?
I know for myself, part of the dropoff was the fact that so much was already done. A new world would allow for new creativity.
Just a suggestion.
I think that's a really good idea. And as discussed further down in the thread, a size limit might be nice. So with that in mind, is it possible to disable or time-gate Elytra and what are people's thoughts on that? Because while I love being able to fly around like a maniac, once you get to the point where everyone has it and it's readily available for free, it kind of completely kills off the need for rail systems, boats, etc. Which are, imo, much more satisfying means of exploration and transportation than simply flying.
Like for example I've been playing World of Warcraft classic a lot lately. You spend the vast majority of that game running around on foot, whereas in modern WoW you have very early access to mounts, flying, etc and getting around is considerably faster/easier. It takes forever in classic WoW to get anywhere, but the result is that the world feels bigger than it is and you have time to take in the world around you while you're on a boat, riding the tram, or even just running through a zone. It's less fun being limited like that, but it's ultimately more satisfying. For me anyway. And I lack the self control required to simply not equip Elytra, if I'm being honest!
Anyway enough rambling. I'm curious what people's thoughts are on that?
I'm not sure if its even possible to do that, but I also don't think its really necessary. Everybody has their own play style and some may want to access the ease of flying for whatever reason. For example, I don't particularly care about riding around a rail system.
That being said, I was actually planning to mostly ditch my elytra before the shutdown news happened. So I wouldn't be in a big hurry to access elytra on the restart. I would probably use it only for shulker hunting and accessing tall farms. Or if I have to go thousands of blocks away - theres nothing fun about walking that far.
I'd be super down for this as well. I'm excited for the next update having the crafter, and the new decorative blocks look really good too from what I've seen. It'll be fun to be involved from the beginning next time so I can help get all the starter farms going.
Maybe even have it be more whitelisted (but viewable by interested people) who all chip in to keep the server running so its not all on tea. That would also keep folk invested in playing on the server.
You can definitely count me in if a new server is started around here. And given how valuable the server has proved, I'd also be willing to pitch in some more.
I think my wife might be interested in joining as well, if we can start from the beginning.
I'm more than happy to host another server if people are interested after a reset. I think a little time, even a month, without a server will provide some much needed hunger to build again. A smaller map, a curated seed, and maybe some more interesting plugins/mods/data-packs could make v2 more interesting.
If we restart before 1.21, i think we should border off a fairly small area. Then when 1.21 comes out, we can expand and things wont be really far away.
1.21 is supposed to come out mid-year sometime. Might just be easiest to wait until then?
Yeah I'm ok with waiting. It'll give me some time to plan my sky islands. 🙂
ditto
I'd really love that, if possible. I spent perhaps 10 minutes on the server my first log in before being called away and haven't found the time to game much since. But I'm looking forward to a new schedule in a few months, which would be really exciting to fill some time in with MC MP.
We can't let @teaearlgraycold do this now that the courthouse is finished! He's only shutting down the server to avoid punishment for his crime of sheep murder!
But seriously, I really loved being part of this community while I could be, and I had a lot of fun. I had a lot of plans for upcoming projects, but since I likely won't have time to complete them, I'll list them here for you to imagine what could have been.
The project I was currently working on was going to be a Jurassic Park inspired dinosaur park. I had found a YouTube playlist for how to construct a bunch of different species, and I was going to build a bunch of them around a grouping of islands I've been terraforming. Then I was going to have a suspended minecart rail system to bring you around the park.
I was going to build the other kind of "head" shop in town next to the mob head shop to be a "competitor" in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way. I'll probably still do this one since it's small scale.
I also wanted to build an ice boat racetrack with different obstacles and such. Maybe find a way to incorporate tridents or fireworks to make it like a Mario kart type game.
I was going to build a cruise ship out in the bay near @ColdheartsTalon's golf course.
And I also wanted to eventually find a nice big ravine to build a little city in.
Luckily, though, we still have time for one community idea that's been in the works for a while (I think it was @Noox's idea). I will be hosting an Easter egg hunt in my nature reserve. I'm going to hide a bunch of turtle and sniffer eggs, and 3 dragon eggs, each having different point values. And whoever gets the most points will receive an IOU courtesy of tea, which will let you run a command once for an exclusive prize. I'm not certain exactly what all you could choose as options for this, but you'll also get to keep any of the dragon eggs you find, and you can decorate with them before the server goes down. If enough people are interested, we should do this on the 30th together as one last hurrah! I'm in the US in the eastern time zone and I'm thinking we could hold the event in the evening, some time between 6-10pm.
Count me in for the hunt!
I'd love to build a creeper statue and blow it up as a starter piston on the hunt. Not having any SMP experience, how much TNT is too much TNT? The statue could fit ~500 TNT on the inside, but I wouldn't want to crash the server during an event....
Where would event start be? And I'll run some creative tests to see how large of a crater they blow so as to not damage anything nearby.
As for future plans, I was going to build another villager village on the ithmus to the east of the trading hall, and have transport by piston boat back and forth between my two builds. Then, set up a fenced area near the trading hall and populating with villagers holding various protest signs:
"We aren't just computer programs!"
"Villagers are people, too!"
"We deserve rights!"
Ya, know: lies.
I might go back to playing on a single player minecraft world that I played with my wife for a while. I had a decent village going, but the access to server farms here had greatly accelerated my progress. So, while I doubt I'll find another server as special as this one, I'll probably play some more SMP.
I'll also likely go back to playing on my long running server I set up with my kids. They don't play as much anymore, so it's definitely not as fun as the tildes server, but "builders gotta build", y'know? ;)
Skyblock does sound fun now that you mention it. Maybe I'll give this updated OneBlock a try:
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/worlds/oneblock
Is there a map/datapack for expanding border? I guess I just assumed that the youtubers were changing it manually but maybe not.
I'm down for one last get together. US Pacific time here, but I'm pretty flexible.
And since you started the discussion, my next big project was going to be an ancient Greek style city built upon a grouping of floating islands in the sky. I was planning to put it just north of the rail line leading to the mushroom island (over the ocean).
That sounds really cool! I haven't built any floating or flying structures of any kind so far on the server. Just thinking about that gave me a new idea. I want to add one or two hot air balloons over my nature reserve if I can make the time.
A hot air balloon is one of the few things that I feel I can do a descent build of in minecraft! If we're on at the same time, I'll talk to you about balloon placement.
Ooh, yeah, a collab sounds good! I'm gonna be on tonight for sure. I just quit my new job today, so I have some free time again (and by sheer coincidence, I happened to get a new job immediately by talking with a stranger).
Perhaps tea needs to go into the Justice-o-matic for the crime of killing the server. 😂
For the IOU book that lets you run a command I think I'd allow a user to get a
/stop
command block that will actually shut down the server for the last time.I'm down for this as well!! Wouldn't want to miss this ❤️
Hey all. Just posting an update about the Easter Egg hunt, so set your schedules for the 30th at 8pm EST (we could potentially shift this an hour or so in either direction if it would be more convenient)! We're going to begin the hunt at 1210, 220 near the giant egg and rabbit (I encourage everyone to fly around my island to avoid potential spoilers). I've almost finished hiding all the eggs (except for the dang sniffer eggs, they're so slow), there will be 350 turtle eggs, 100 sniffer eggs, and 3 dragon eggs hidden on the island. Turtle eggs will be worth 1pt, sniffer eggs are 5pts, and the dragon eggs are 30pts. The search itself will last for 30 minutes and there will be a short preshow to begin the festivities. The prize is going to be an IOU from @teaearlgraycold to run a command of your choice* (within reason*, Tea stated you could potentially use the command block to officially shut the server down on the 31st).
Also, everyone be sure to remember to set up an armor stand for the Hall of Heroes below the community center. If you're not sure how to use the armor stands I'd be happy to help anyone get set up. If you leave a sign with details about how you want your statue to look I'll take care of it, leave any armor or items you want equipped as well as 1 of your player heads in a chest nearby (set your spawn, remove totem/armor, shoot an arrow straight up and kill yourself to get your head or have another player help).
(I went through the old threads and tried to tag everyone who seemed to put in substantial time on the server so you don't miss out if you want to be in the Hall of Heroes or join the egg hunt. No pressure, but we'd love to have you join us for one last hurrah!)
@mintysaurus @Positive @j0hn1215 @Mendanbar @IsildursBane @BunnySurfer @Evie @ShadowFox @OliDvis @Bobaelia @zatamzzar @bobstay @TBDBITLtrpt13 @stewgoin @ColdheartsTalon @lazerdye @Durinthal @creesch @bendvis @goryramsy @artvandelay @Fiachra @delphi @Noox @BajaBlastoise @hamstergeddon @talklittle @FluffyKittens @Oslypsis @ICN @zini @PelagiusSeptim @chewonbananas @ThrowdoBaggins @sparksbet @Dontberobot @Jao
Edit: See everyone tomorrow night!!!
I don't recall who (maybe it was Gravy), but they said the Hall is sort of like the Credits of the server.
So, a few days back I also went through a bunch of the old threads and identified prior players. I used the resulting list to create placeholders in the Hall of Heroes, in an attempt to give credit to as many folks as possible. If you find your name in the Hall, feel free to move it. I just put up placeholders in the order that I found them.
Looking forward to the Egg hunt!
Love it! I've been checking out the dynmap today and I'm getting some serious FOMO. Going to hop on later if I can find a few minutes and check everything out. I'll be sure to avoid spoilers though! :)
Thanks to Gravy, Positive, and Evie for making me a statue! Noox and Bunny were supervising.
Hope everyone has fun and takes plenty of screenshots and videos at the egg hunt. I'll be missing it unfortunately. I was looking forward to the opening ceremony at least. Thank you for your efforts setting it up Gravy!
If you can create something for me that would be awesome. I already put the head on a stand and did get started a little bit. But I have no clue how to proceed.
I did give the stand a totem given the amount of times I fell to my dead. I also felt bad for my cat being all alone in the airship, so she gets to sit next to me
But as you can see the stand itself can use a bit more work.
All done!
Awesome! Thank you very much love it!
Gonna steal your idea next time I'm online and have my dog Jasper sit next to me!
NGL, talking about not wanting your digital pets on a Minecraft server to feel abandoned is making my heart break a tiny bit
On a more selfish note, I realized that I should probably pull all my gear out of my end chest and throw it in one of my normal chests so anyone that downloads the map can enjoy the fruits of my labors as well. I hope others will do the same lol
Agreed and planning to do the same.
Was going to mention it during Gravy's egg hunt.
Should we mass-dump mats into the mining box? or is there a better way we could do this?
I kind of like the idea of just putting mats in chests/shulkers in your house. That way, anyone coming back to the server would have a bit of a post-apocalyptic experience scavenging :)
I think several of us are going to put our enderchest contents and gear in our houses to be available to anyone who visits, that way we can keep using it ourselves as well after a world download. I also meant to propose everyone write a few of their most interesting or favorite game statistics in a book to leave at their house as well but forgot.
Ooo I like this idea too
Is the world going to be downloadable in the future? That would be kind of cool, my young son was jealous when he saw the map of the world.
I’ll post it on Monday. It’ll be around 10-15GB.
Thanks, Tea!
If you have the time, it would be great to know the various datapacks / mods that were on the server as well.
If I'm not mistaken, Tea should be able to include the datapacks along with the world dl since they are in the world folder. They should be tiny compared to the region files.
I know 10-15GB is a lot for some people, if there's interest I could use MCA Selector to remove a lot of the unneeded chunks to reduce the filesize and upload it (most of the end and a lot of the overworld could be safely deleted for example). I could also reset the Easter egg before I upload it as well if people want to see it in game for themselves.
I’ll break it up by world. Most people won’t care too much about downloading the end.
Who was the last user to connect?
I was watching Dynmap for a bit this morning, I think @Positive was the last one on.
I was on this afternoon (in my timezone), and put a bunch of signs saying "THE END IS NEAR" all over town.
stalker! :) <3
Can vouch that MCA selector is an awesome way to selectively remove chunks that were merely "travelled through". I use it often to prune my long running server, and it's a nice way of "resetting" those in between chunks to allow new features to generate.
Yeah tea said he will make the world available after he shuts it down. :D
@teaearlgraycold said he was going to list the map as a download, but I don't personally know what the plan for that is.
for the most part, people are just putting their gear or a copy of it on the armor stand so that it looks roughly the same as their character. Any additional decoration surrounding is up to you :)
Yeah I get that, I am just responding to Gravy's offer of helping out there as well.
Bummed I ended up missing the easter egg hunt and final(ish) gathering. There was just one too many things going on! Hoping to see some screenshots or video of the kickoff :)
I'm heartbroken I misread the date!! I totally thought it was tonight, not last night.....
I will miss all of you when the server officially shuts down, however. It's been an honor serving with you all
o7
Oh no! That's a bummer to hear. I didn't want to conflict with anyone's plans for today, so I thought yesterday would be a better day. I have a litematica schematic of the egg saved and copied in my creative world, I'm considering redoing the show and trying to record it properly so everyone can see that part at least.
Sorry Bendvis, I goofed with replaymod and lost the recording. :(
If anyone got any screenshots that they'd like to share please do! I was too busy misreading instructions to take any pics. 😅
I tried recording a video with replaymod, but I accidentally deleted it. I'm strongly considering trying again in creative so everyone who missed out can see the opening show at least. I already have a litmatica schematic, so it wouldn't be too difficult.
gg
Nuts!
To echo the others, thanks for hosting as well as your efforts.
I feel like I just got home from vacation and realize I didn't take any photos. I should have been grabbing screenshots of random moments.
A couple of memorable highlights from my perspective:
When the server found its first diamonds, and then the cave was swarmed with diamond hunters
Dong Island™️
Bauke's insane iron farm and froglight farm
FluffyKittens' crazy overkill storage depot
John ending up on the naughty list
The colossus vs aliens battle (is it really going to end in a stalemate? 😲)
Gravysleeve's nature preserve island
Had a ton of fun, thanks for setting this up and running admin Tea!
Next up: heavily modded survival run?
Some friends requested I host a pixelmon server.
I also floated the idea of organizing L4D2 sessions.
oooo. L4D2
Also, because we're talking about modded, allow me to recommend that everyone play Uncle Genny's 100% Organic & Free-Range Modpack at least once. It's an expertly created and super weird modpack by GenerikB of Hermitcraft and "Attack of the B-Team" fame. I played it with my kids during lockdown and had a blast riding dragons and building an entire base powered by chickens (who knew there was so much energy in omelettes and chicken poo?). It's for a fairly old version of Minecraft, so in some ways feels a bit primitive, but really it's like stepping into an alternate timeline where Minecraft took an extremely weird turn at 1.12 and just ran with it.
Oh, and also I got to chat with GenerikB himself on discord a couple times and the guy is just so nice and genuine. Just don't ever let slip that you like ketchup on your hot dogs.
Not just ketchup, but yellow mustard and cream cheese!
I'll definitely check out Uncle Genny's. Riding dragons alone sounds worthwhile.
There's a discord channel that has mostly moved on to his new pack, but you can search it for help and tips with the free range pack. Hopefully that link works... invites are disabled but that channel is listed as public.
Also I'm happy to answer any questions. I think I managed to try out every aspect of the pack when I was actively playing, and I still come back to it with the kids occasionally to mess around in creative.
Oh man I would 100% play a modded server. Especially one with rideable dragons and/or a tech mod or two.
I'd love for the Create mod to be implemented. We would need some serious lagbusting methods, though.
Yeah I played Create Astral for a minute and the lag was unreal. Kind of turned me off of Create tbh. I love the concept though.
I've been a part of that playtime drop, been a lot harder to find time since I started my job. Will definitely hop on before the final shutdown to send it off! Appreciate you hosting it for as long as you did, and glad to get to play with everyone while it lasted!
I'm partnered with BisectHosting, so I could offer up an 8Gig server for Tildes once the current server shuts down. I've got it for free, and I'm not doing much with it right now.
Is anyone interested in this? If so, would we want:
A new vanilla world
A new modded world
Continue with the current world
I'd be down to join if we can't convince tea to continue hosting but on a server restart.
I'd love to have the armor stand, mob head, and player head datapacks from the start. They really changed so much about how the world was viewed.
I wouldn't want to continue to current world. While there are some projects I would continue, a lot of the interest has been used up since basically everything is so readily available.
I'm interested! I was leaning toward modded, but TBH I would join in either of the other scenarios too. :)
Choosing a modpack might be tricky as well, if we go that route. I have an extreme dislike of heavy progression packs, and sometimes kitchen sink packs can be unbalanced to the point where they just aren't fun.
I would vote for a new mostly vanilla world. I think most of the mods on the current server are great (mob heads, trees decay faster, etc.), and I'm excited for the next update!
I'd be interested in joining if it's similar to what we had with the armor stand mod and mob heads. Personally I'm not too keen on anything heavily modded.
It seems that Tea is planning to restart the server with a fresh world at some point, so I did decide to do a more heavily modded one. There's a post with the url bc it's up now, if you wanted to see it.
https://tildes.net/~games/1f0l/tildes_modded_minecraft_server_is_now_up_whitelisted
Thinking further on this, it would be really neat to build a players hall of some sort before it ends.
Maybe in the unused basement of the town hall we could have labeled armor stands of everyone interested, including their heads? At some point prior to shut-down, folks could put their favorite armor on there so that they actually look like us.
Hopefully this isn't too late to garner attention.
I love this idea, and the town hall basement seems like a perfect place. Voting and commenting to increase visibility!
Love it. I'm in.
I like that idea. I never messed around with armor stands before, can you have them hold any item as well? I was thinking I'd want to have mine with a rail in hand.
Yep! You can have them hold two items. We can also pose them (happy to help with that).
The only thing you won't be able to put on the stand is a helmet, since your player head would be the helmet.
I was thinking that we put the stands on a block of people's choosing, with a sign on the front of the block containing their name and whatever else they want.
Sounds like a great plan to me. I'd be happy to help anyone with posing their armor stand if they want.
I've never played minecraft and I never joined the server, but I looked at tons of the screenshots from these threads & enjoyed them immensely! thanks to everyone who contributed!
If anyone is looking for a new SMP, I play on a server called UnderscoreCraft that just recently started up a fresh world. We're currently doing a short season until the next major Minecraft release and as such, experimenting a little bit using terrain generation datapacks from Stardust labs.
UnderscoreCraft is a whitelisted semi-vanilla survival Minecraft Server recruiting adult players 25+. Our community came together in Spring 2020. Maps generally last 6-12 months depending on Minecraft updates.
Here's a look at some of our previous builds and communal areas.
The rules are simple. We just ask that everyone be respectful, be open to having a good time playing alongside other adults, and use common sense. Don’t steal or grief. Pranking, jokes and PVP are allowed BUT should be mutual. A Discord account is required as is utilized for communication.
Please message me here for a Discord link if you're interested!

Thanks for hosting. I suck at Minecraft but it was great seeing the ridiculously impressive things people made, and everyone's been incredibly nice and helpful there whenever I joined.
Out of curiosity, is there any (popular and well tested) way for someone to take the world file and host a read-only version on the web? I came across this GitHub project, minecraft-web-viewer, which looks like exactly what I'm asking for, albeit an early alpha version. But it seems fairly unknown based on the low GitHub activity.
That project looks super cool! The only thing I've seen that even comes close is the Hermitcraft maps project, but it's more like a dynmap style map than a full on 3D space to explore.
It shouldnt be hard to post the world download somewhere. If you load it on your own computer, it doesnt matter if its read-only or not.
As I read it, @talklittle was looking for something that could make the world "explorable" from in a browser window without having a Minecraft instance loaded anywhere. Pretty neat idea for archival purposes.
Ah noo am very sad to hear this too :( I've not been around much the past 2 months either sigh, personal life got a bit overwhelming and the first thing to go when I'm stressed is my creativity (I've just been dumping time in fallout 4 instead)
I understand the decision of course Tea, thanks for a wonderful time! I'm happy it'll be downloadable as a map!!
So I just joined probably two weeks ago and was enjoying it. Thank you Tea for hosting it. While the server was not overly busy, I did enjoy whenever I joined to be greeted (at times extremely quickly) by o/. Tea, you did a great job hosting.
To carry on with the idea of sharing future plans, I thought I would share mine. I was going to build a mining operation (hadn't thought of specific vision for the underground part yet), in this giant lush cave at 300, -1150, which had a naturally generated hole to the surface. I built one small crane going down, and was starting the second. The idea was I was also going to build a barge at the waters edge loaded with ores, that was being loaded by the giant crane (that is not finished). The lore was going to be that they made one crane, then realized the area was way more profitable and built a heavier duty crane. The bigger crane then handled moving the ores to the surface to be loaded onto the barge, while the small one started to be used only for people. I was going to try and build it in the style of an industrial revolution era, which I have not built in before. You can also see my starting house not far away from that site, which I was going to hide more with giant spruce trees.
This saddens me, but I've burnt myself out with my WG-Far sphere. I am glad for all the moments I had with @Noox, especially while building the Christmas Tree and setting up my starter Island. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for the greatest atmosphere I've had in a minecraft community. o7 you wonderful people!
I'll be sure to download that download for old times sake.
Thanks so much to everyone who joined in the Easter egg hunt! I had a blast! @Evie was our winner and for her prize she chose to use the command tea offered as a reward to permaban herself from the server! I did try to record the opening ceremony but unfortunately due to my inexperience using ReplayMod, the recording has been lost. :(
So instead I'll give a brief description of the show:
I had the giant Easter egg I built rigged with TNT to blow off the top of the egg just as the beat drops in the Otherside record disc, then the fireworks flew out from the inside of the egg! I packed in 100s of fancy fireworks for the show, probably used close to 100 diamonds in the recipes! Only two of the dragon eggs were found and there are a bunch more turtle and sniffer eggs left as well, so if you missed out you could do a mini egg hunt after the world download is available (please don't take any of the eggs in the meantime).
Thanks again to everyone who made it and I hope to see everyone again in a few months when the new server is up!
Thanks for setting everything up, Gravy! I'm sure I speak for everyone who was there when I say that we had a lot of fun, and the fireworks show was very nice. Lovely way to close the book on the server.
I'm glad to have been a part of this awesome group. Thanks for making the map download available. I love hoarding old worlds and occasionally strolling down memory lane.
I'll definitely hop on before the month is up to fly around one last time (or maybe just ride all the rails) :)
Dang. Well I had an absolute blast playing with you all. Tea did you ever get around to making a house in tildestown?
Ha, no :P I did finish up that wizard tower though.
That's a shame to hear :( I only recently joined the server and enjoyed exploring and playing on it a bunch. At the same time it was clear to me that I joined after activity mostly did cool down already.
Being able to download the map would be hugely appreciated!
I haven't played on the server for a whiiile, like more than 6 months probably. But it was a really fun server! Lots of cool stuff built there, and I enjoyed taking full advantage of all the farms people made too hehe. I'll probably hop back in to take one more look around soon.
While my time on the server was brief, thank you for hosting this server! I didn't contribute much but I enjoyed the small community that was built on this server and the various large scale builds that people made.
Hey everybody, be sure to get in on the fun in the basement of the Community Center! We're making a hall of heroes!
That's a shame. I really enjoyed my time on it, even though I stopped playing it when life got in the way. Thanks to you for running it, and shout-out to my buddies @noox and @bendvis for the fun times we had.
As someone who has never joined, I'm surprised because these posts always seem to have so much activity.
Tilde town now has a head shop and dispensary! Get your green now before big government shuts us down!
It was a great experience being a small part of it, in fact it's made me want to learn the technicalities of mc server hosting myself.
If anyone has any tips about where to look, for someone with experience coding, I'm all ears.
I host a small server for my own family on an old repurposed Dell pc. Aside from a simple bash script to keep it running, it's largely a vanilla paper server with dynmap added. I'm happy to answer any questions, but I'm also interested in how I can improve the whole setup.
One thing I've been specifically looking for lately is a backup plugin for paper/bukkit/spigot (or some other reasonable-to-manage option).
I've finished up making the area where we can gather to start the Easter egg hunt!
Lets set a day and time soon, so most people can plan to make it.
In my other post I proposed we do it on the 30th, sometime between 6-10pm EST.
I must have missed that. Should work for me
FWIW, sdf.org has a Minecraft server that's fairly nice, and it's a decent community.
Nice build, @mintysaurus
https://tildes.nore.gg/?worldname=world&mapname=surface&zoom=6&x=-925&y=64&z=-871
Thanks, I kinda figured my area needed some kind of eldritch monster lol.
I've created a chest in the southeast corner of the community center basement for people to toss in their nice gear for others to enjoy when the server shuts down instead of things being lost forever to end chests
What's everyone think about the new mace weapon?
It has me excited. I imagine they will balance it quite a bit before it makes it to the main game, but still the concept is very compelling.
Honestly, to me it isn't very compelling. The effect seems cool at first, but how often do you encounter a situation in game where this would be useful? I could imagine it being fun to fight the dragon with one after you already have an elyyra, or it might be useful for certain farms (warden farm perhaps?), but it doesn't seem practical to keep one ready in my hotbar. I feel like they should have made this effect a new sword enchantment instead.
Edit: Actually I don't know if this would even work on the dragon.
Combined with a wind charge it could be more useful. But it’s probably better utilized in adventure maps. Most of the time in normal survival Minecraft you’ll just run away or box yourself in rather than need to AoE 8 enemies with knockback.
It does work on the dragon! Some of the more technical Minecraft youtubers have discovered that the whole system works on momentum, meaning with elytra you can be an absolute juggernaut with the thing.
I do agree though that once the initial novelty passes it's likely not something I'll reach for. But I can honestly say that about tridents and crossbows as well. It's not that they aren't useful or compelling... I'm just stubborn and like my sword and bow combat. :)
I don't follow updates: what does the mace do?
The Mace does the same base damage as a sword, but it has an added effect where the damage increases the further you fall before you hit a mob. The mace also does an AoE knockback effect on enemies and if you time the hit right on a mob while falling it will negate all the fall damage.
I know current server is still alive and there is no definitive visions for the next iteration if it'll happen, but, after reading this thread and walking around the server map, I want to through an idea of making next server use Create-based modpack.
I think features which Create provides will work well with the developed server culture - large scale community builds and interconnected design. Actual working trains, windmills and true movable blocks from Create seem like a good fit, automated farms look very cool, and, more importantly, Create also looks good, which isn't something you can usually say about tech mods. It also has addons for almost every mod under the sun, meaning you can tailor the modpack to any taste and expand it easily without regressing into disconnected unfocused kitchensink type of experience.
It being available for Fabric is a bonus, since you can get performance benefits from all the optimization mods for it, hopefully to offset the cost of running heavy mods like Create.
If people are interested, I can throw a custom pack to playtest for a week or two, although I can't host.
I think that any required client side mods are a non-starter. This server has supported Java and Bedrock edition to get any increase in player count we can. The longevity of a small server like this is limited by the number of regular players, and thus the rate of new player sign ons. Required mods add friction and also completely lock out bedrock players.
Maybe at least consider running a poll to gauge interest? I see your point, but I think player retention is easier if people have a definitive stuff to strive for, and on server focused on building first mods can really prolong it's lifespan, as opposed to something like pvp/faction wars/roleplay-focused servers there you really can expand your goals organically without intervention.
FYI, there is another topic I've been watching for a create based pack server here. It looks like it's up, but they don't have a downloadable mod pack yet.
Sure. I’ll do a couple of polls for the 1.21 server
