But it just seems like they're trying to halfassedly recapture the glory of End Game with big dramatic reveals and team ups that don't have a third of the build up that IF/EG had.

I enjoy the lore a lot and would like to see where the overarching storyline goes, even though it routinely missteps. And lastly I enjoy this stuff. It's fun to watch the fanbase go nuts trying to conspiracy theory their way to some conclusion because of something in the background. It's fun to buy into that crazy shit and how it means the next movie's gonna feature Mafisto or something. It's goofy, it's cringy, but it's fun

The Thunderbolts? Barely an inconvenience: So, if you haven't heard, there was a whole movie that explained the lovable, ragtag scamps called The Thunderbolts are the new Avengers, setting the stage for a showdown. I'm predicting this issue will barely be mentioned in the final film. It will be resolved off-screen or in a single line of dialog. The Russos don't care, you don't care, but I will miss John Walker, an asshole true to his heart.
Self-referential reverence: Avengers movies mark the end of an era. It's natural for such a tent-pole movie to look back at the road that led to it. For this movie, there was very little lead up, but that won't stop the Russo who will cram it full of references to prior Marvel movies. My longshot prediction is that the Russos are snobs and will choose to reference only the most important Marvel movies: the ones they made. So expect nods to the last two Avengers movies and Captain America's second solo movie.
Subverting the subversion: It is a cliche by this point -- a moment of lividity will be broken up by a snide, self-aware remark (I think done to perfect by the 2nd Guardians "Look at us standing in a circle" speech). The Russos know this, and will fake us out by doing a dramatic scene for real... but with many pregnant pauses, trolling the audience that the 4th wall will be broken, but it won't.
Fan service for the infamishable: Marvel is parked so far back in the doghouse that they know they have got to give fans what they want. Like how the Spider-Man pointing meme made its way into No Way Home, there are going to copious amount of fan service in this movie. Hulk doesn't bust out of the Hulkbuster? He will here. "Avengers Assemble" doesn't get spoken enough? It will be said not once, not twice, but three times here (not by the same person, like one of them will be Doctor Doom).
Impossible longshot so I'm just going to say it: There is one huge thing that has been missing from the MCU. I think it will appear sooner than later, but I don't see how it will fit into this movie. It's most likely (I think) to show up in the Spider-Man movie following this year's. And that's Uncle Ben. The MCU Spider-Man was an underdeveloped hero for the longest time. He really only reached the level of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man by No Way Home. This is because the MCU didn't fully become Spider-Man until he gets told "with great power comes great responsibility". This line has always been Uncle Ben's, but since this gets attributed to Aunt May in the MCU, Uncle Ben becomes a unnecessary character. This will change when his character finally gets introduced. I don't think in this movie, but if it does, he won't say much, just wiggle his eyebrows as Peter Parker's Spider-Sense confirms his identity as true. But because the stakes are so high, I have a hunch Uncle Ben will get introduced in this movie.

The thing with Doom catching Thor's attack with 2 fingers was sort of unexpected. I know he has power armor but I dont tend to think of him as physically that powerful, its usually magic and technology stuff. For a second there I almost thought he was about to do a Naruto jutsu.
Feel like that's my big issue. Who the fuck knows the state of the current marvel universe? Is Galactus coming and doom is preparing them? It would've made sense for it to be Doom being the bitter...

Since Secret Wars is supposed to be a sort of collision of universes, and they already have teased at something like that with Deadpool 3 and the last couple of Spider-Man films drawing attention to "Earth-616," I wouldn't be surprised if something cataclysmic happened.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the imminent new Spider-Man film had some important setup for this. Especially given it's the first in a planned trilogy of new Spider-Man films, and the previous one pushed a big old reset button on Spider-Man being connected in any way to the Avengers.

I think a lot of it is just nostalgia, no? I remember when a new MCU movie was (more or less) a popcorn-munching banger. I think the drop-off was definitely being felt by the time Endgame was coming out, but I, personally, hung on for that. Some of that motivation was sunk-cost fallacy, sure, but I really did want to see that story come to its conclusion. After that it felt like the only way to keep up was to have my entire entertainment "time budget" spent on MCU properties. There were uncountable (mediocre) series and movies that all referenced each other. I'm an adult, I can watch a movie now and again and a few TV episodes each week - it felt like that simply wasn't enough to keep up - so I stopped. Haven't missed it.

Loki S2 was one of my favorite things to come out of Marvel.

Yeah I need to catch up on a couple of things - haven't seen Thunderbolts*, the new Fantastic 4, or Loki S2 - but honestly I'm not mad at this trailer. It actually kinda got me interested. It's gonna be stupid but I like the MCU's particular brand of stupid.
All three of those were enjoyable watches. Not ground breaking (though Loki S2 was close), but all fun things I was glad I took the time to watch.
I haven't seen any of the MCU movies since Love and Thunder, feels pretty unlikely I'll see this one either.
But we'll always have that build up to Endgame across all the Marvel movies from 2008-2019 which was fun to experience at the time. I do wonder how long they'll try to keep this series alive without giving it some significant time off.
As someone still playing catch-up (next is Black Panther, so I'm within a few movies of Endgame), can I watch this trailer without spoiling things? If not, I'll probably wait until I see Endgame to watch this trailer.

Man , Endgame was such a time. I remember being around the office then, and loads of people were talking about how it might end, and being excited for it. People who I wouldn't have considered to be comic book or marvel fans. It really did capture the zeitgeist for a while and then ... well, here we are. Pulling the puppet strings on the twitching corpse of the Marvel universe in the hopes of one last dance.
I watched a vid of a mom showing her kids Infinity War and Endgame and seeing their reactions to everything (and the trauma) reminded me of the joy of it all.
While I'm fairly neutral on the trailer, I am loving how nearly everyone here has admitted to still having some MCU homework due to Principal Iger.
Dr. Doom is by far my favorite Marvel villain. I would be on board with a film focused on him or at least from their point of view. All the super heroes are uninteresting at this point. They do nothing for me. Merely starting that Doom's more powerful than Thanos means nothing to me, it's a lazy way to increase the steaks. And the F4 movie was a nothing Burger. I don't care about them at all.

Why do people still watch these? There have been roughly 4 movies in the Marvel universe and then numerous copies of them. It's like we've had LLM pumping these out since Iron Man 2.

I think a lot of it is just nostalgia, no? I remember when a new MCU movie was (more or less) a popcorn-munching banger. I think the drop-off was definitely being felt by the time Endgame was coming out, but I, personally, hung on for that. Some of that motivation was sunk-cost fallacy, sure, but I really did want to see that story come to its conclusion. After that it felt like the only way to keep up was to have my entire entertainment "time budget" spent on MCU properties. There were uncountable (mediocre) series and movies that all referenced each other. I'm an adult, I can watch a movie now and again and a few TV episodes each week - it felt like that simply wasn't enough to keep up - so I stopped. Haven't missed it.
