Halloween Night!
So tonight is Halloween. Obviously mainly a US holiday, but figure it'd be fun to ask what everyone's nights are like anyway. I think I've made it clear how much I love Spooky Season~
Anyone having trick-or-treaters tonight? Going to any parties (or already been)? Have a costume for the night? Seen any fun ones? Watching some scary movies?
We packed up the kiddo and headed to my sister in law and her husband who live closer to Chicago to help them pass out candy. They counted ~500 kids before they ran out of candy and had to call it a night. It’s their first Halloween in this house (and this town), and they’re realizing they need to budget for ~1,000 visitors in the years to come 0_0
Definitely a far cry from the 30 kids we usually get in our sleepier suburb!
We're handing out candy, but our block doesn't get as much traffic as some of the subdivisions so it's been slow. I also have some 3D printed skeletons for the non-candy folks
I also have to work as I oversee our night security and we're doing extended hours of making the students check in with a person at their hall so we hopefully avoid anything super ridiculous happening. So we're ending candy hand outs early.
My younger kid still trick-or-treats with his high school friends, though I'd argue they're already too old for it. My wife and older kid hand out the candy to the ever-dwindling number of kids who still go door to door in our neighborhood, and I hole up with a good horror movie or two (or three). First one of the night was Hatchet, and I think I'll go with either Trick 'r Treat or Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark next cuz I'm in the mood for an anthology (and I already watched V/H/S/Halloween last night).
Halloween has become decently big in Denmark and very much a yearly tradition in the neighborhood for all the kids to go door to door for candy.
I was home while my wife was out walking around with the kids, and in the span of 2 hours around 150 kids came to our house for candy. We have a decent decorated driveway, various props and sounds effects, but still very low ball compared to some in the neighborhood who go all in and make almost a theme park ride.
For me: our new neighborhood doesn't get trick-or-treaters, so we went back to hang out at an old neighbor's house. Our old neighborhood has gotten a LOT of trick-or-treaters in the past few years, we're pretty sure people bring their kids over from other neighborhood. The last year we lived here, we were the only house that didn't run out of candy among our neighbors. And last they reported they ran out again. So we brought some extra candy with us, just in case.
Last night, I also watched a couple scary movies with some friends. Ended up seeing Buddy and The Blob (the remake from the 80's). It was fun! Lots of body horror and dead children...
I hand out candy, but I never get more then a handful of visitors. I do give out full size bars. I usually give the leftovers to a friend. I don't eat candy or sweets in my day to day life.
I head over to a friend in the suburbs and hand out candy in costume. Over here kids come by the trailerful so it can be a flood of kids at once. So many fun costumes but hardly anyone says trick or treat now!
I live in an apartment complex, and no one does trick or treating :(
