We haven't had one of these in a while, and given the amount of time people are spending indoors, I figured it might be good to share some movie recommendations.
I will post my own comment regarding some movies I've seen recently, but I wanted to also share some quarantine / pandemic movies that might be interesting given the strange times we find ourselves in. Warning: they are probably not a great way to take your mind off things, if that's what you are searching for, hence why I'm separating them from my other comment.
- Contagion (2011) - Probably one of the more relevant movies, and certainly on people's minds. It's an interesting worst case what-if scenario, and actually tackles some of the political struggle with organizing around a pandemic.
- Perfect Sense (2011) - Overshadowed by Contagion, which is arguably the better movie, but I liked the premise of this one: a disease that slowly takes away your 5 senses, one at a time. I didn't like the ending, but for a thought experiment it captured my attention. It threw in a love plot line which may or may not have been necessary when the reaction was more interesting, but it does help provide a ground floor experience of a more terrifying epidemic.
- It's a Disaster (2012) - I have somehow managed to miss watching this movie, despite it being on my watch list for some time. A comedy, which may come in use in this trying time, it centers around a group of friends who invariably become part of a self-quarantine at their house.
- Rear Window (1954) - A Hitchcock classic. Jimmy Stewart is confined to his NYC apartment due to a leg injury, and has all the time in the world to spy on his neighbors, where he becomes obsessive over a potential domestic dispute between a couple across the way.
- The Lighthouse (2019) - Superb acting by Willem Dafoe. Two men, a seaman fresh to the trade and a seasoned veteran, are servicing the sole lighthouse on a tiny island as part of a contract. They are forced to stay longer than either imagined due to a storm passing through them. They get at their wits end with each other and their sanity slowly falls apart. Beautifully shot in black and white and with authentic vernacular, it really transports you to a different time period.

While I've been teaching myself my first programming language (Python), I've been getting more into using the terminal as much as possible to build familiarity and get comfortable. This has opened my eyes to so many useful utilities and makes me curious as to what there is out there that I haven't heard of yet.
My favorites so far:
exa - A modern version of "ls"
youtube-dl - Download videos from youtube.com or other video platforms with various options
hledger - Plain text double-entry accounting software based on ledger written in Haskell
thefuck - App that corrects a spelling mistake in the previous command by typing "fuck"
spicetify-cli - Customizes the Spotify client with themes and extensions
spotifyd - Lightweight Spotify daemon
spotify-tui - Control Spotify in the terminal
neofetch - Launch tool that can display ASCII art or pictures and general system information
I'm on macOS but I'm almost certain all of these are cross-platform.
What are your favorite or "must-have" CLI packages?

My OG Pixel died last night and while I'm waiting for tech support to get back with me on how I can still use MFA to do my job, I figured I would ask you all how I should proceed with getting a new device. My first impulse is to get a Referb Pixel 2 on Amazon for $99, as I liked my original Pixel, I like having the latest Android version and I like only paying $99 for an older flagship phone. Additionally, I was considering a Pixel 3a as it would presumably last a bit longer and has had good reviews but is three times as much and hasn't devalued nearly as much when used, which is good and bad.
I'm open to anything that's relatively stock Android and still updated, and am curious about iOS, Kaios or other options. Landlines are a hard pass.

Rural Towns Insulated From Coronavirus Now May Take A Harder Hit Later (They will almost certainly get the virus. When they do, they'll realize they're less prepared than cities and their people are disproportionately more likely to be a high risk group.)
The Coronavirus may hit rural communities later but it will certainly hit them harder (very similar to the one above)
Are suburbs/rural areas safer from the Coronavirus? Probably not. (also pretty similar but it talks about precedent during the 1918 and earlier pandemics and also that people are apparently renting their houses on the notion they're safe, which is wrong.)

Frustratingly (and in keeping with how confusing the messaging has been from the Australian government on all aspects of this pandemic), there is no single easy source that lists these new restrictions in a nice simple format.

All gatherings, whether indoors or outdoors, are limited to 2 people. Exceptions apply for people you're living with (you're already sharing germs with them). However, previous limits of 5 people for weddings and 10 people for funerals still apply.
-
People should only leave the house for necessary activities, such as: shopping for supplies, exercising, medical care, work, school.
-
Elderly people should stay home and self-isolate. This applies to: healthy people over 70; unhealthy people over 60; indigenous people over 50. (And if we ever needed evidence that indigenous people have worse health than everyone else, this announcement proves it.)
-
Public playgrounds, outside gyms, and skate parks will close.
These rules are all advisory, rather than legal. However, individual states can choose to enforce them legally.
