I just can't bear aggregators without it any more. (for reddit you can do it with RES, for HN there is also a browser extension ("Hacker News: Mark All Read") )
The only problem: you miss out on some later discussions. For this the HN extension I use has a "follow comments" toggle inside the posts, which excludes those posts from being hidden.
It also totally fixes the problematic of balancing the "freshness" on the frontpage.
Maybe I missed this when skimming through posts, but when will the ability be added if ever to create new ~ on the site?
I'm wondering because I'm feeling kind of bad for flooding ~music with my fan girl content. I think it's quality content. I realize a lot of it's been heard but I think every sub ~ group (is that correct phrasing?) needs to have a solid base of content to build on. I don't want to be that person spamming content that people might not like, but I am trying to contribute quality stuff I don't see.
Is it just me, or is the session timeout set very short (or strictly tied to an IP)?
I've had to login 3 times this morning at work, and I couldn't have been idle for more than an hour or so each time.

If it's too early in development for these questions, let me know.
It's a good time to have Netflix if you need some quirky original comedy in your life.
Both seasons look like they'll be split in half, which means we'll have more to look forward to later in the year too!
Only sad thing is that it looks like this'll be the last season of Kimmy and who knows about more AD - but let's not be sad, let's be happy that we are getting what we are!
@adamschefter: Will become official later today: Browns selected to be featured team on this summer's Hard Knocks, per source. Bonus Browns, more Mayfield.

One big thing that has made maintenance of my older code easier has been considering the concept of cyclomatic complexity. In particular, limiting conditional checks to exceptional cases as much as is reasonable has made it easier to focus on the "happy" path of code execution and easily track down the errors, and the limited nesting depth has made things easier to read as well. Overall, my code remains relatively flat and I'm not branching through layers of logic trying to track down a simple bug.
What are some simple things you do to keep your code from being a massive headache long-term?
This is more of a stop-gap than a real solution, but it's now at least possible to link to a specific comment. On each comment, on the right side of the header "stripe", there's a # that links to that comment. It just uses an HTML anchor, so you're still linking to the full comments page, but it should scroll to the correct comment at least. You can also click the # on a comment from your notifications page or a user's page to go directly to that comment.
In the future we'll probably want to have a better view that highlights the linked comment more, and allows displaying context (the parent comments), but for now this should help a bit.
Any fellow Tildes playing this? I picked it up yesterday with the steam release and it interests me enough to probably keep playing. Although I do think I'm going to need a different guild(nothing against the one I'm in just I'm NA and they're EU).
For those who want a quick idea of the game I would say it's a mix of EVE and Runescape. While there are traditional skills you level up based on a mix of these two. You gain "fame" based on certain tasks. But unlike runescape mining copper ore forever won't allow you to max out your mining skill set. You actually need to mine higher quality stuff.
For eve like stuff I would say look at banking and how PVP is handles. Banking is all local so if you want to move a lot of stuff it will probably take a long time(I just started but imagine they'll eventually offer something like contracts(or at least hope they do)). Then PVP has different levels like safe, red(where you can enable PVP and attack others), or black where PVP is always an option with no consequence other than other players.
Like I said I'm a noob but will try to answer any questions I can for those wondering about it. Links below for whatever else you may want to know.

Hey everyone, I've decided to start studying to get my CCNA. My books are showing up Monday and I'm really excited.
I'm going to shoot for self studying and prep for the testing. I think I can do it as I've always thrived in a more self paced learning environment (I also have no money for the classes).
I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips, supplemental material, etc they could recommend? What was hardest for you and what was easiest? What did you spend too much time studying and what didn't you spend enough time on?
Here's a nifty gallery with some examples that are text-heavy and straightforward, not unlike my new favorite site.
So is tilde brutalist? Or minimalist? Both? Something else? Whatever it is, I love it :)
Edit: So glad this generated some thoughtful discussion. Sincere thanks.
Looking for some direction as I tend to get lost in Netflix/Amazon

As discussed yesterday, since everyone seemed supportive, I've updated the default sorting for topic lists to "activity". I think we'll probably need to reconsider this as the site's traffic and posting volume continues increasing, but I think it's working really well as a default for now.
Hopefully the default will also be customizable on a per-group basis in the future (and/or allow people to set up their own "shortcuts" to certain groups with specific sortings).
blah blah blah parp
I suggested already to have a setting in the profile to allow the user to decide if links should open in new tab so you won't lose the content you were being on this website. In the meanwhile I made a very simple script that does that for you using tampermonkey.
The script: https://gist.github.com/theCrius/04dc86bea0ed0f1cbec7e57f1aaff9aa
Tampermonkey: http://tampermonkey.net/ (available for all browsers)
A quick tutorial on how to do it, step by step with images: https://imgur.com/a/pY51wn2
Edit: Updated to open only link in comments in new tab. The rest of the navigation will load in the same tab by default.
