What are you playing?
For me lately it has been For Honor on PS4. Something about sword fighting can really get my heart going more than any FPS I've played.
For me lately it has been For Honor on PS4. Something about sword fighting can really get my heart going more than any FPS I've played.
Basically nothing but League and Dota. For some reason nothing holds my attention anymore. Sometimes I'll start up cheesey runs of Dark Souls 1. Sometimes I'll play a round of two of PUBG. I play Hearthstone when I only have access to my phone or only have a few minutes to play. But something about MOBAs just fucking consumes my brain I swear. I think it's something about meta-gaming and competitiveness. I love build diversity and whatnot. I don't like the raw-skill element to competitive shooters, nor do I like complete min-max fests in more complex games.
I'm a one trick on League, I only play Vel'koz support. Like "4k games on him and maybe 100 games on my next most played hero" one trick.
In Dota I've been back to spamming Necrophos because I love the new Ratboi set that got released for him. Friendship with Dagon ended, Radiance is my new homie.
Oh, I guess I'm also really excited that Handlock is back in the meta on Hearthstone.
I recently got Borderlands 2. I'm currently in the "Meh" category. Not the best game I've ever played, but not a waste of time either. I haven't played with friends, though, so that might change.
Apart from that, I've been replaying Half-Life 2, which is always fun. I always do it about twice every year.
I just bought the Borderlands bundle because it was on sale, but the first one is unplayable on a 21:9 monitor. The FOV is defaulted to a 4:3 monitor (70) and there's no way to change it without going into the game files.
Half-Life though đź‘Ś
I played Borderlands to death, both one and two. It is pretty fun, but it was a lot more fun playing with my then-girlfriend. The game is easy enough that one person can carry a team of two, but she still helped out. Plus it's more fun with two characters being around to use their special ability. Never really got into the online scene for it though.
Yeah, Borderlands didn’t really age well. I recently tried replaying the pre-sequel, and I think the biggest thing is that the shooting feel doesn’t hold up to the newer games that we’ve been seeing. Bullets don’t feel like they have much impact and the guns don’t feel as weighty and satisfying to shoot as say Destiny to compare to another looter shooter. I would say the humour has become a little dated too.
It's an entertaining FPS, but it really does shine if you play it with friends (as mentioned in another comment, this applies to most games).
Borderlands 2 is really fun if you do it co-op. As a single-player game, 'meh' is a good description.
I've been playing Far Cry 5 but not so much because of anything great about the Far Cry series, but more because my best friend loves (a) Far Cry and (b) co-op multiplayer. So it makes her happy, so I play it. Which makes me happy because even mediocre games are good when played with friends.
Otherwise I am still playing WipeOut VR and will shortly be playing Pixeljunk Monsters 2 (which I only just found out exists and am very excited about - I keep a PS3 purely for PJM 1)
Man, I loved WipeOut on the PS3. I went the Vive route for my VR needs and I'm bummed that it's PSVR exclusive. :(
WipeOut 2097 was such an iconic game in my life - it came out just when I was at university and me and some of my to-this-day best friends (including the girl I'm playing Far Cry with) would spend hours and hours racing those tracks to that soundtrack. If one day I hear the opening notes of We Have Explosive and my right thumb doesn't involuntarily twitch as if pressing a throttle button then I'm probably dead.
WipeOut VR is the game which justified my whole PSPro+PSVR purchase, which I could only just afford and I'd spent the previous few months worrying I should have bought something more sensible instead, like a new vacuum cleaner or similarly useful but dull purchase.
It's so, so good. Even with the mild motion sickness it engenders in me (I thought I had my VR legs but it turns out that hypersonic antigrav racing is a whole different league)
Hopefully it will make it's way onto other platforms eventually.
Can you tell me more about far cry 5 co-op?
Yeah, it's pretty good. Someone can join your game and you can play the story stuff - which is new, previous FC multiplayer was just liberating outposts and so on. When they leave you just carry on from where-ever you were when they left. The visiting player gets to keep any perks, weapons and money they picked up, but not story progression.
I love co-op multiplayer but so few games have it these days.
I've owned the Valve Complete Pack for a while now, but had never gotten to play Left 4 Dead because I thought that I'd need friends to play. A couple days ago I decided to check to see if there were a single player mode, and have been playing with bots for the past few days.
Holy crap have I been missing out.
Oh hey if you're around the American northeast I'd be down to play with you. Hopefully we can find two others!
American Northwest here... Not sure how bad the ping is that far away but I'd join in.
I've mainly been playing FrostPunk and it's surprisingly fun and anxiety inducing. The developers have done a great job at keeping you right at the edge of failure. Just when you've conquered a challenge and get a moment to rest something happens that puts you right on edge again. Making you plan out how you'll handle the worst case scenarios that might come at you. It's really been a lot of fun.
I played an unfinished version of FrostPunk at PAX West last year and I loved it, but I've heard mixed things about the final product. Have you felt like there's enough content to keep it interesting for more than a day?
I personally have felt there's enough. But I've probably only put about 10 hours into it so far. The only complaint I have is that there's some irksome bugs when trying to select things and the auto-save behavior could use some improvements. But for the price I think is worth it if you know you liked what you saw. That being said some elements of the game lack the depth you might see in similar games. For example after you've played the main campaign you likely understand what building patterns and choices are optimal.
If you do decide to play it. I hope you have a good time.
I've been hearing some good comments from a few friends, it's on my list to try for certain.
After the whole Bethesda/Fallout nonsense this week, I decided to go back and mod (again) Fallout 3. It's my favorite FO game, and the last time I played it (about 5 years ago) I was still a bit of a noob at modding, so it wasn't as stable as it could've been. This time I've decided to rebuild my old setup bit by bit, checking for conflicts and patching stuff as I go. It's gonna take a while, but once I'm done I can just make a copy of the installation and not worry about modding it again :)
Besides that, I should really finish Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. I've been putting it off for months now.
Hellblade was one of my favorite recent experiences in gaming. I had just gotten a new very decent headset and that game was a match made in heaven (or, you know, hell..). Extremely enjoyable, solid message, extremely gorgeous graphics. Go finish it :-)
The audio design is exactly why I stopped. It's brilliant, so much so that it felt wrong to play with regular speakers—like I was missing a crucial part of the experience. I had only some super cheap headphones at that point, so I decided to stop and go back to it after I got some decent ones. Months later, I haven't bought a decent headset for PC use, and the best thing I've got right now is a pair of earbuds... I think I should give those a go, otherwise the game will be collecting (virtual) dust on my library for who knows how long.
Decent earbuds will be fine! :-) enjoy the rest of the experience. The game play isn't the most incredible (imo) but the way they lead you through the story kept me super engaged. :)
You're right the gameplay isn't anything crazy, but I think it works well enough since the main focus of the game is the story. Think I'm gonna give it another go tonight :)
If you're looking for a decent pair that won't break the bank might I recommend the Koss Poratpro headphones?
Thanks :) I've been looking at options lately, I'll definitely keep those in mind. The design itself kind of intrigues me.
I LOVED Hellblade. So much atmosphere. And I also played with ear beds plugged into the PS4 controller and it worked perfectly fine.
What mods do you recommend?
I've been using this guide as a base—mainly because I've been away from FO3 modding for a long time and I'm not up to date on the latest patches, fixes, etc. I used to run Fallout Wanderers Edition, DC Interiors, A World Of Pain, Imp's More Complex Needs, my girl Brisa Almodovar... and it seems most of that stuff is already included in that guide.
Good to know. Idk. As janky as the vanilla game can be. I do love it. I tried modding it earlier today but it just made me want to play vanilla. Weird I know.
I keep putting of finishing Hellblade too. Not 100% sure why but part of me thinks that the story/setting are so great that it's a bit overwhelming, like I want to savor it so it never quite ends. Then again the controls are occasionally clunky and that the puzzles require a certain patient mindset so it's not one that one would just pick up for a bit of casual fun.
Agreed. I'd say it's one of those games that you have to sit for a few hours with, and lose yourself in it. Definitely not one that you can just pick up, play for 30 minutes, and leave.
Shattered Pixel Dungeon: it's a mobile rogue-like with pixel art graphics. The main developer updates pretty frequently so there are fun changes to the gameplay every couple months. The original Pixel Dungeon game is Open Source so there are a number of forks, but Shattered is my favorite.
Really just Civilization 5 to pass the time and sometimes World of Warcraft if I get a big chunk on my hands. Really excited for the new expansion to drop, but that's not until August. Until then, the Beta will have to work for me.
For those with a taste for more experimental games, I've been having a lot of fun playing the Sunless Skies alpha. It's a lot like Sunless Sea, but a lot of the rough edges that Sea had have been resolved, leaving a game filled with warm buttery goodness. There's still a lot of work to be done, but please check it out!
Been playing Celeste a bit recently, and bought Hollow Knight for something to do on the side.
I'm playing Uncharted 4 for the first time. I haven't played any other Uncharted games, or anything similar. I'm generally an MMO and online MP player.
My staple games are EVE Online, ST:O, WoW, Minecraft Realms, and racing Sims, for perspective.
I don't even have words for how blown away I am by this game! Like... Literally can't come up with adequate adjectives. The storyline, the fluidity of the movement, the twists and turns, and the sheer size of the world along with the art/graphics regularly just leaves me stopping where I am in the game and staring for a few minutes in awe.
I'm hooked. I want more games like this now. If anyone has PS4 suggestions that are similar to Uncharted 4 please do tell (only exception is I'm not really into fantasy/dragons/etc and prefer reality or space/future based styles).
Go pick up the Nathan Drake Collection! It has the first three games with updated graphics and optimizations for the PS4. I myself haven't touched 4 since I wanted to play the original three first. Your post is a good reminder that I need to go finish the second one.
Look around eBay and you can usually nab a copy for only $15.
I'll keep an eye out for it, thanks.
The new God of War game and The Last of Us have a similar feel to Uncharted - both story-based, large world adventure games.
Slay the Spire. A lovely single player (digital) card game.
Hearthstone a lot, as well as Sea of Thieves. Hearthstone has been a long time going, but SoT I just recently got with the xbox game pass, and its been pretty meh so far.
Path of Exile! New league just started today. Anyone play? Could use some others to level with.
I really wish PoE was on Linux, or for any good Diablo-like on switch.
Been getting back into Starcraft 2 after a very long hiatus recently. Nothing else quite scratches that competitive itch the same way that a tense game of SC2 does. When you and an opponent are pretty evenly matched and it all comes down to taking some crazy risk, or executing a battle so perfectly you win the whole game off of it, there's nothing else like it in gaming for me.
Also been playing a little Path of Exile, Stardew Valley, Fallout 4, and League of Legends here and there.
It's The International season, so I've been playing a lot of DotA 2. Can't wait until pubstomps start again and we can gather to watch the games.
I think I might have to start playing Dota again for the international... That game is just way too addictive.
Also, ❄️Crystal Maiden❄️ best girl!
Super Smash Bros. Melee. The competitive scene is still extremely active, the community is awesome, and it's super easy to emulate and play online with https://www.smashladder.com/ (links to emulator setup and an incredibly active matchmaking service).
Also God of War. It's great!
Thank you so much for mentioning that Smash Bros. website! I played Smash a lot 10 years ago competitively on a few small community forums. Being able to play again on my PC with random people is going to be a blast.
Glad I could catch someone’s ear! Tons and tons of people are on, 24 hours a day, and it plays like console. You can use any controller, or buy a GameCube adapter (the Wii U one works natively) for like $20! Have fun and message me if you have any questions or troubles :)
Just finished Horizon Zero Dawn. It's probably one of the best games I've ever played.
Man I loved the hell out of that game. Story/world are great, but legendary combat: I'd say second only to the great mechanics of the souls games. So satisfying to watch these giant robots degrade as you figure out their weaknesses and pummel them.
I'm not even a big 'story' person in videogames, usually more concerned with setting and solid mechanics but, I did find the story in this one to be pretty engaging.
100% I agree, probably my favorite game I've played in a long time
How do you like VR gaming? It looks cool but I haven't pulled the trigger on a set up yet. I'd probably do the PSVR but with them just announcing the PS4 is on life support, I may just wait for the next generation.
What's your favorite VR game? I've heard Skyrim has a few bugs and the perspective is weird.
Awesome! Thanks, I'll try some of these out :D
I haven't really been into any games since Super Mario 3 or Street Fighter 2, but last year or so I got into Rocket League and I'm totally hooked!
Sometimes I need to take a few days off because the matchmaking frustrates me, but overall I have found it to be an extremely positive, relaxing way to kill some time. I often see reports of toxic chats and whatever, but I rarely see that sort of business.
One issue with Rocket League is that its really fun when you suck at it, but as you get better and your matches get better, it can be frustrating if you don't practice / learn some tricks / know how to rotate, etc. Once you're past the middle section and you're up with fairly good people the game is extremely fun again.
I play on a bootcamp'd 2013 macbook pro using an external monitor. I have a desk fan blowing onto my laptop to keep it cool (whether this helps or not, I have no idea.. it makes me feel better). The game runs great with some tweaks.
For Honor is a fantastic game. Just happened to get into it right when they moved to dedicated servers and I can't get enough. Weirdly I find it a bit of stress relief...
To answer the question, lately I've been captivated by Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Loving the depth to it so far even though I don't think I'm actually that far in...
Kinda feel like booting up Rocket League tonight for the first time in ages... We shall see how that goes
I recently picked up a SNES Classic and I’ve been swapping between Super Mario World and Starfox. Loving it so far!
I haven't been playing it, but I do want to get back into it (Garry's Mod)... plus they just had an update.
Update??? +1 for Garry's mod. I have 2,500 hours.
Yeah a lot of bug fixes and some small features!
Wow! I might have to get back into it!
I've seen clips of Beat Saber and now I want VR. It looks like an amazing game to "controller swap" with friends.
Far too much Binding of Isaac Rebirth for my own good. Been playing a little of Divinity: Original Sin and I just picked up Overwatch so I'll be playing that soon too.
I recently picked up Red Dead Redemption again. It's weird going from such fluid exploring in games like Phantom Pain and BotW, back to the much rough around the edges and (to me at least) revolutionary mechanics RDR had.
I'm an old gamer (like, original Atari 2600 old) so it's easier for me to still be blown away by the graphics and gameplay in Red Dead. Coming off of playing Horizon: Zero Dawn it does feel a bit clunky but it's still amazing.
Still playing Warframe, it's still got content I haven't played yet. I've been playing it since... Nov? After Destiny2 failed to hold my interest for more than a week. A friend recommended it and it's been quite entertaining to play through content with friends.
That, Factorio when the mood strikes me, and Beat Saber to keep me from getting to sedentary.
Still into Overwatch, and recently got a Switch so playing Breath of the Wild as well.
I've been hooked on Cultist Simulator for the past like 2 days. It's a crazy Lovecraftian 'card game' about founding a mystic cult in the 1920s. It doesn't really teach you how to play, it's up to you to even figure out the full mechanics of the game. I've made a OneNote document that I'm using to make notes of some of the stuff I've discovered.
It's easily the most interesting and unique game I've played in a long time, but it's definitely not for everyone. It's very story heavy and if you skip a lot of the text it will be nearly impossible to figure out.
Expect to die a lot. In my latest run I finally have a well established cult and am successfully using my cultists to go on expeditions to steal artifacts and shit.
I do have a few complaints. The UI is a pile of hot garbage: cards definitely spawn directly behind only cards, making them practically invisible. Which is particularly bad if it's an illness or affliction of some kind with a time limit. Other times cards will spawn in front and mess up your organization by bumping other cards to the side. Finally it's not always clear when resources are permanently consumed. I lost some of my core stat cards in what I thought was a bug, but was just me not realizing they were permanently consumed by the action I was taking.
Anyway, I recommend checking it out if you're on the fence and like weird games. But for the love of god, don't read too much about it. A major part of the fun is discovering how to play.
I've been kinda-following Cultist Simulator for a while now but I know pretty much nothing about it. This sounds really interesting, and I'm looking forward to picking it up on a sale.
I highly recommend it. It has me completely hooked.
That being said, it's good that you haven't looked too closely. One of the major themes is just figuring out WTF is going on. If you start learning too much about it, you risk spoiling that part.
Also, I switched over to a paper notebook. Switching back and fourth between OneNote and Cultist Simulator was a bit of a pain. But things are really starting to click. Well, some things. Other parts I'm still almost completely in the dark about.
Playing Dark Souls for the first time, really enjoying it so far. I'm planning on playing through the whole series now.
I've also got Skyrim VR and Fallout VR on the back burner, as well as Beat Saber for my rhythm fix.
I have Dark Souls on my to-play list too, but I'm waiting to have more time to dedicate to it. It's good to hear it still holds up!
It definitely holds up, and the remaster is completely worth playing, thanks to the resurgence of players online.
Dwarf Fortress is my favorite game of the moment by far.
The new God of War in between bouts of ESO. I also just discovered Hearthstone. I love it but I suck.
After seeing Just Shapes and Beats on the PAX expo floor for years it's finally out and I'm happy to own it. Fun little bullet hell game with good music, even if I'm terrible at it.
Oh wow, I've never heard of that game before (somehow), but that looks great.
I've been playing War for the Overworld. It's a remake of the old Dungeon Keeper series. I have put far too many hours into it now D:
Hackmud, great game, I highly recommend it. New update coming out very soon.
State of Decay 2, only have 10 hours in it, but it's a great game from what I can see and at a great price.
Right now I'm in the middle of a Paradox megacampaign. I started as a Norwegian duke in CK2, and now I'm the Norwegian Empire and about two-thirds of the way through EU4. I'll probably port it over to Vic2 once I'm done in EU4.
I've recently been playing Dragon Ball FighterZ a lot. It's a really fun fighting game. I main Yamcha, Krillin, and SSB Goku, but sometimes I swap Goku with 18.
Bloodborne, always Bloodborne. I'm looking forward to the 5th when X-COM 2 goes free for PS+ though. I've been meaning to play it forever as one of my formative gaming experiences was X-COM: Enemy Unknown. Even have it in my Steam inventory but was waiting till I had a better PC to start it up.
I'm currently playing Feed the Beast: Infinity Evolved on a Minecraft server I run out of a Canadian VPS (OVH). I've always enjoyed building and creating towns with a community of lovely people, but Vanilla Minecraft just gets so old. After a while, there's literally nothing left to do. It's not like Skyrim, where you can still have fun role-playing and exploring.
Right now I'm just focusing on creating a new spawn village with my fiance. It's fun and relaxing. Some of the other server members are off doing their own thing. There's a lot of new stuff to explore and do in Feed the Beast, and I'm looking forward to seeing the things some of them cook up.
Last week I was feeling nostalgic for an RP adventure game and since Morrowind isn't available on xbone, I dug up my hard copy of the GOTY edition of Oblivion and am diving headfirst into that beautiful world. It's been at least 5 years since I played it and it's been exactly what I was looking for. This time around I am taking my time and really exploring the landscape and lore of the game, and utilizing parts of it that I never bothered with before now, and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Currently just managed to get old Novalogic Tachyon: the Fringe and it's the best. Will try Everspace next
And Spec Ops the Line. It's a horrific game.
Dota 2 and Path of Exile are on the table currently. On June 23rd I'm going to play the original World of Warcraft from 2006 on a private server project called Light's Hope, on their new server Northdale. Alliance if anyone cares.
Careful, ask me questions about private servers and I might become the first person convicted of murdering somebody by boring them to death.
I've been really getting back in to Destiny 2 latey. I know a lot of people like to hate on it but i feel like the changes they've made since launch have made a huge difference in how enjoyable it is to play. The gun play was always great in my opinion but now with the improved super/grenade cooldowns and exotic weapon perks, you can really feel powerful again. I usually put at least a couple of hours in most nights with my friend, but have also had some great and very memorable moments with randoms doing the raids etc. The Iron Banner PvP last week was probably the most FPS fun i've had since Halo 2.
I've just started another playthrough of Portal 2 - it's really enjoyable and it's extra fun to find the little easter eggs they left behind.
I have been tragically addicted to Caves of Qud for some time now. It's a roguelike game with a dynamic world that's different every playthrough. It's also pretty hard.
Last time I played I fought a sleeping bear Barathrumite with cybernetic implants that fired plant growth grenades at me. His chromelings killed me pretty quick though.
Replaying Red Dead Redemption. Partially as a build up to RDD2 coming out and partially to enjoy the experience all over again.
Skyrim and more Skyrim. I'm 82% done with the main game (in terms of trophies). Skyrim may be old, but I just discovered it last year. I really want another Elder Scrolls game to come out so I can explore more of Tamriel.
Oblivion is worth your time, albeit old, if you want to experience more lore etc.
I'd love to play Oblivion; I just wish I had a computer that was fast enough for it.
Rising storm 2! Tryna get some practice in for battlefield V
I'm currently playing through the campaign of Battletech.
Beat Saber, it's amazing. Normally I'm not into rythm games, in fact I'm not really into music in general. I find music enjoyable but not something I seek out. I don't understand dance at all. I feel second hand embarrassed for people who dance. I should not like beat saber, I was hesitant to even try it.
I decided to buy it on a whim and I love this game. I really really love it. You can mod it and put in levels built by other people. I still don't understand dancing, but there are player-made levels where they try to make you move in a dance-y way and it's fun and that's the closest I'll ever be able to get to understanding it. I really wish I was more into music and dance, then I would love this game even more. It's fantastic exercise as well. After playing it for an hour I'm completely soaked in sweat.
Feeling very nostalgic lately I've begun to go through my old favorites. First up:
The Secret of Monkey Island, Special Edition
Next probably The Curse of Monkey Island of course.
Probably followed by the Telltale versions of Monkey Island and then the Sam & Max series from Telltale.
Ooooh the nostalgia, it's like a warm cozy blanket. :)
I've been inspired by the Steam Spring Cleaning thing (I've been trying to 'shop my stash' for a while now, with mixed success) so I just finished Antichamber and moved onto Torchlight 2. Antichamber was a surprisingly good puzzler once I got the hang of it, while Torchlight is mostly good for killing time, but I'm still having fun!
Detention, it's like a 2D silent hill and I really loving it. However, the puzzles are on the easy side and the combat is not existent, but it does a good job on capturing that feeling of uneasiness.
Right in these days I'm replaying Pillars of Eternity with the expansion. I just got around to finish the main campaign (not completing the final step of the main quest) and went on the White March DLC.
I was remembering it quite shallow and honestly I till think it is, but I'm doing it just to explore it all before starting a campaign in Pillars of Eternity 2.
Before that I was playing Farcry 5 but more like 30 minutes at a time. It's quite monotonous after a while and the story in every Farcry is never that good.
I also dropped some dime for Paladins, a free to play alternative to Overwatch that is still in alpha (maybe beta now) but it's a while that I don't play.
From time to time I log into an unofficial WoW server because I really don't feel paying the monthly subscription to Blizzard to just play a couple of evening per month.
I always have Civ6 installed but I don't even remember why at this point. Along with some other 4x game (Stellaris was the last i think).
Oh, if you like light roguelike with a strong arcade/action side, try Wizard of Legend. Definitely worth having. Also, it support local coop!
I've been chipping away at the games on the SNES Classic. I just finished Contra Alien Wars last night (by using many saves) and had a blast. I was a Genesis kid so I'm really playing catching up on this system.
I'm replaying Witcher 3 lately. I also reinstalled Fallout 4 in anticipation of Fallout 76. Checking out the Ready Player One content in VR as well.
Currently working to get my Chess.com rating up. Im im high 900s on lichess. I let me chess.com rank drop not caring. Been improving my game. I am frektar on both sites if anyone wants to play.
I've been replaying Pokémon Red, mostly to get back into the series, and get familiar with Kanto as a region, before Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. Also been playing through Persona 4, and been putting a decent amount of time into Just Shapes and Beats.
I've also been playing a decent amount of the Mario Tennis Aces demo, although that ends today so I won't be able to play any more of it.
I've been playing a lot of Nuclear Throne and a lot of hackmud. Both super cool games, I have ~500 and ~1,500 hours in each of them respectively.
Halo 5. There are dozens of us!
Been playing Wizard of Legend quite a bit lately and probably getting back to Slay the Spire now that the new character has been released. They're both on Steam if you're interested.
