One more comment from me (sorry for the spam). Final reminder
Slaying the end dragon TODAY 17th @ 2pm EST
We assemble in town center.
I won't be there, but if you can, die once in my honor.
I made it, I personally did not die but at least one or two folks did. I will dedicate their dead to you.
I'll put up a stele in j0hn's name where my minimap said I died.
Ironically I might not make it myself (going to be close). But we'll see, in case I don't make it, have fun to those who do!
I started off the season steadfast in my determination to not use Elytra. And then I caved the second free Elytra became available. But prior to that I'd gotten quite comfortable using a horse to get around and I kind of decided that if I ever lost my Eltyra, I'd just travel by horse again.
Well tonight I died and lost my Elytra (as well as some other nice things) and I'm going to avoid getting more. If you see me flying around, shame me.
No elytra gang! Still at 0cm 😎
I'm also avoiding Elytra to encourage myself to develop the use of rails and the nether more.
But I'm also trying to avoid the use of armor because I like looking at my new skin, so maybe I'm a nut. :D
I'm only using elytra because getting to the upper parts of the nether hub would be brutal without them
I've never used elytra, and at this point, I'm scared to start.
I used one for the first time last season. Died. I think I'll just walk, or take the railroad like it's still 2010.
Even with feather fall enchant on your boots it's dangerous stuff. My death count skyrockets (pun intended) the second I get elytra. Especially in the nether or large caves where there are a lot of walls/ceiling to hit.
On a similar note regarding elytra. How picked over is the End for finding elytra right now. I lost mine in the Great Mouse Died While Escaping Lava debacle and want to find another one but I’m also a little lazy.
Also. Did people have elytra before we fought the dragon? How did that work?
I believe @GravySleeve used a flying machine to access the outer end.
Happy ghast actually.
And its little aviator goggles and hat!!
I think there'll be plenty to find still. For building the shulker farm I opened a new gateway and went to the closest city, and that wasn't looted yet.
Or join the waterways with a boat- the poor man’s horse! I’ve been trying to dig canals and join rivers together for easy navigation.
I might take your advice and horse + boat into town, since it's a bit of a walk / swim. If I can get into boat with goat, surely it works with horses too :/
Nope. :(
Horses swim now, so you can lead them over water these days.
So you can lead a horse to water and make it swim at least
:/
... A relay of horses and boats then lol
Or a canal, as @Chiasmic said. ("There's always a canal!)
If you build a nether portal, it should link to the lava pit just beside the northern entrance to Talon's dome, right next to the bridge creesch was building yesterday
That might be a bit beyond me at the moment :D I'll try horses/boats for now, work up to our cool high speed rails, then try portals. And eventually Elytras haha or maybe not
Really happy with some of the detail work I've been doing on my base. Check out this lighting solution!
That is so cool!!
THAT'S SUPER COOL
I think imgur is broke. Notwithstanding that it's forbidden to use that site in the UK, it seems from my world travels on the internet that it just doesn't load at all. Over Capacity. Or maybe it's still my end :(
Edit: it seems imgur are detecting and blocking vpns to give the over capacity error, and as I say, we're banned from using imgur in the UK so I guess that's that.
Time to make tildes.photo? 👀
I've been considering this. But image hosting isn't nearly as fun and easy as MC hosting.
The nerdsnipe has me thinking about a https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr cluster with a bunch of people chipping in a bit of storage, with one 'cloud' node to do the actual serving.
It only takes one person uploading CSAM or similar material for it to go from a fun technical problem to internet janitor/mandatory reporter.
Edit: I think with the right restrictions it could be safe enough to deploy. I'm thinking:
Can 3 month olds even use computers, tea?
Banned
help help I'm being repressed!
Yeah, those sort of restrictions are what I was thinking as well.
Is anybody else interested in this idea, either from a user perspective or in being part of making it happen? It seems fun to do, so I'd be willing to take a real shot at it.
Yea they seem to have blocked a host of new ones recently so Mullvad isn’t an effective anymore. If anyone finds a way around it please let me know!
Well the way around it is not to use imgur, I suppose. But that would require the ROW to do it so I'm not hopeful. I guess it works fine for the ROW. shrug
Even in the US I am not fond of imgur, but I continue to use it for hosting because I haven't really learned anything else. Do you have recommendation that are reasonable and accessible?
Alternatively, I've seen a few people here self-host images. Off-hand I think I recall @creesch and @hamstergeddon do this... What setup do you use? I do have a domain with simple reverse proxy set up already; I suppose I could just throw some images up there as a subdomain or directory of static files.
Edit: I'm looking into this garagehq now... I might set that up for private use and see how it does. Really, some type of self-hosted data storage that supports publically-visible sharing would be ideal. I did attempt setting up next cloud quite a while ago but it gave enough trouble that I didn't follow through with it.
I use a old fashioned shared webhost that supports php and has a decent amount of space. I have a few php scripts I wrote over the years to manage it but the main one provides an upload endpoint which requires a authentication to be send with it for uploading. I use this in combination with ShareX which can be configured with custom endpoints.
The other scripts provide me with a webinterface to upload things and a clunky image gallery I still want to redo as there are some things that are not working quite right.
The upload script can be found here. Big disclaimer: no support and as is. You'd need to create the directories mentioned yourself, the script doesn't do it and the .htaccess file should be placed in those directories as well.
Password generation is done with password hash
Edit: Most of the checks on file types are there for my peace of mind. The script is parked somewhere in a obscure directory with a different name with no links to it. So chances of someone stumbling upon it are pretty low. But, if someone would find it I didn't want it to be extremely easy to abuse either.
For now I use copyparty which is quite simple when it comes to images (e.g. no albums) but works well enough for my needs.
I just throw my stuff up on my webserver the old fashioned way (FTP). But this isn't ideal because I have to use an FTP program to upload and there's no clean UI for albums (just the default folder index the server software supports). I could probably code my way out of both problems, but I'm lazy!
I'm sorry no. I never share pictures outside of family, which basically happens over iMessage or Signal.
Actually that's not quite true, I've made a link to a small album to send to someone instead of emailing photos. I could do the same from my Nextcloud photos as well I suppose. The point I think is, that I don't post pictures for public consumption.
It's just that now, if imgur is used, I can't view anyone else's either :)
imgbb mirror
Oh neat! Cool mirror, I'll have to remember that. I wonder if I can do a tampermonkey to do that automatically. Nice one
Also, marvellous use of leads and lanterns.
that's really cool, how was it done?
Okay, so, not to get too technical but
On top of the building with the copper roof, there's a boat, sitting on top of some slabs. It's leashed to that fence post with a lead -- carefully placed so that the lead is perfectly level, and runs at a 45 degree angle relative to the block grid (thus hitting the center of each block in its path). Temporary blocks were placed above the leads, and the copper lanterns hung from them; then, a debug stick was used to set the lanterns to their grounded mode, which both lowered them so their tops aligned with the lead, and also allowed them to float unsupported. I was also super high when I figured this out so edibles might be required, not sure
A boat!! I was wondering what the target entity would be. Great idea!
So cool!
Thanks! I'd figured about a third of that out on my own, but without edibles there was no chance I was gonna get the rest of the way.
Just finished (for now) what I think is the first major public transit infrastructure project on the server -- the western nether tunnel (we gotta come up with a catchier name) which connects mine and Pickles's bases with @TangibleLight's, @Minithra's, the End and the town. And looks great doing it, if I do say so myself :). High speed rail lines included!
I love the waiting areas at each stop! Nice work. I'll probably do a little redecorating whenever I start working on the nether-side of my base - move the portal up to the same level and all - but I love the vibe.
From memory and at a guess - I bet @nemo's base portal would land inside (or at least very close to) the waiting room for my (our?) stop.
I'll have to math up the cords and figure out where to put a portal so it's close enough to be in the same lobby without overlapping your portal's reach.
Sorry! I messed up the wall a bit because I just winged it adding my portal without doing any math at all. Neither the location on the surface (currently: storage sub-basement) nor in the nether (terracotta alcove off the waiting room) are finalized, I just wanted to put something down I could use.
I'd like to file a permit to add another exit in the tunnel for my base, albeit on the north side at X -245 rather than the south as with the existing stops. It's close enough to @Minithra's that I can use that rail stop rather than adding a new one, and alternatively with their permission I could build a pedestrian passage from their branch to my side going underneath the tunnel.
Absolutely, feel free to build things! My tunnel is very temp, my gaming time has been spread too thin lately, so feel free to change as much as you need, it's all just cobble :D
safe to say it's not cobble anymore
Yeah totally do whatever you want -- ideally I'd like everything that touches the main tunnel to match block pallets and line up with the lighting (ie both stops are centered relative to the ceiling lights in the main tunnel but you can add anything you want to
Fortunately the alignment worked out. For now I've made a very basic opening without trying to match styles but feel free to revise it as you see fit; if you don't get to it any time soon I might try to figure out a way to blend it in better.
@teaearlgraycold you were surprised "there's no actual high speed line with stops yet", but there is. This line connects many of the west quadrant's bases through the nether.
Hopping on now.
Edit: Nice
Can I ask, what are the walls made of? I want to expand the stop for the End to accommodate a second portal room, is why. Also I messed up the wall there accidentally, is another reason.
They're made of mushroom stems! I can provide some for you next time I'm on if need be, or you can steal a few stacks from my platform, or there's a manual farm in the industrial area.
You did an amazing job! Have a great night :)
As for the name - depends on whether you want to go with something serious/lore-y or something funny. Can brainstorm later
I'll have to hook into that when I choose where to place my nether portal, I'm right next door to TangibleLight
N00b diary 003
This week I discovered sea turtles!! I needed some more glass bottles for my newly thriving bee hives, so I walked to the Beach just Northeast of me, and there they were! Just cutely basking in the sun. I tried to punch sea grass for them but had to go home and get shears instead to trim. They're cute and had little happy hearts when fed, and then....one of the laid eggs.
Kinnabari said, oh, hope you're ready for zombies then. What zombies?! What?! They're going to trample the baby eggs?!
Thus began a mini saga of hatching them. I built a sandstone
mausoleumhatchery for them with gates to keep them (and myself) safe while I held up Pickles from skipping nights.I learned a bunch of things:
In the end, after many a nights, they hatched! Baby turtles are crazy cute! They're so small and it was cute having them follow me around and give little growing green pluses <3
Nametags are very much beyond my ability to make right now. And The home Garden isn't ready with any sand, nor safe right now. :'( I watched them swim and frocklic for a bit more, marked the sand block they spawned upon, and then walked away. It's for the best. For now. I would be inconsolable if a named baby sea turtle dies under my care.
One day I'll be back, and maybe I can even get some eggs laid on the very spot, and bring home a named forever baby sea turtle that's a descendant of these little fellas.
The home Garden is now boxed in and lit. Not sure if mobs jump gaps wider than 1 or taller than 3. Spiders climb, apparently, so I'll need to do the funny hanging edge thing all around next.
Put some very humble contributions into community storage. Took some strings and sugar cane. Such a cool thing Isildursbane set up.
I can't fully articulate how much I look forward to these posts. :)
Thanks Mendanbar :) I do feel kinda self conscious posting about wood doors vs zombies on the same thread where people are posting about their beautiful castle homes or high speed rails and crazy redstone projects. Your encouragement is appreciated.
If it makes you feel better, some of us who are doing complex redstone are merely just copying designs found online
:) still! server hasn't been running more Even a month!
I think someone else mentioned that it's so refreshing to see someone experiencing the game with fresh eyes, and that's how I feel too. I love reading about your discoveries about aspects of the game that I have sort of taken for granted. It allows me to remember what made me fall in love with the game years ago. :)
That was @secret_online :) I hope they're still enjoying them too
Oh absolutely. These are my highlights of the thread for sure. Just the sheer joy about turtles, in this case, is so infectious and I am here for it. Even little discoveries (like learning copper will change over time and that you can wax it to stop it) mean so much more when found organically in-game rather than in the patch notes.
Keep these updates coming, and please don't be shy about posting when others are posting castles, offshore platforms, floating cities, the destruction of literal hell, or complex redstone machinery. These comments are just as important to me and they are appreciated by players of all experience levels.
Wait... wood doors don't block zombies on this server? TIL! I've been living in a false sense of security these last two seasons, jinkies!
Yeah! There I was, first night in my turtle nursery bunker, looking out at the fading light behind cherry wood doors, joking about how it'll be a short venture if wood doors don't hold hahaha. TSP: they don't. Instant panic, block up both doors with stone, room turns PITCH BLACK and I groped for a torch to throw up anywhere. In real life, this is where I would have set myself then the baby turtles eggs on fire before running into the sandwall collapsing the whole thing on myself lol.
Being new, copper doors were my first available alternative and after seeing one meander outside until day, can confirm they hold. Also spiders crawl over walls, need something at the top lip. I found this wiki article on building safe homes helpful. (Link edited)
I misunderstood how to do the fence around the top and need to re-do the whole thing next time.
PSA, fandom is a trash company, https://minecraft.wiki/ is the better place to go ;) If you grab a browser extension like https://getindie.wiki/, it'll even redirect you automatically.
Nice, link edited, thanks!
You can right click copper with your axe to unweather them.
You can trade for nametags with librarian villagers that are at master trades.
Oooh :D and now I know where the trading villagers are as well. Thank you :) .
Oh yeah I should also mention I was walking through Tildetown at night, got chased and killed by a baby zombie that Talon had to put down. Thankfully it didn't do a lot of damage and did not infect/kill any NPC villagers.
Hey, just a heads up since I kind of disappeared - I do intend to return, just been pretty busy IRL. Thought I should mention it as I do have an unfinished build in Tildestown
Your build is unfinished? I put down 3 carpet squares. Stuff happened :( Still dealing with dad's estate, which seems like a Sisyphean task. Every time I think I'm at the end, I find more to do.
Edit: The boost block has been changed to bamboo blocks. Not planks, blocks (the green ones). Since redstone blocks caused issues with some farms.
@teaearlgraycold after some doc reading and testing with my local instance it looks like hsrails just works with a newer paper version including ours. So I have taken the liberty of already putting it in the plugins directory (didn't restart the server so it is not active yet).
For anyone not familiar with the plugin
Specifically this means that with the current settings (once the plugin is active) placing a redstone block under a powered rail will make that exact rail boost much harder. So if you want to chain powered rails for high speed all of them need to have a redstone block under them.
Another bit of important info for anyone who wants to use high speed rails
@TaylorSwiftsPickles, can I have your permission to convert the train to Poland to a high speed track?
@TaylorSwiftsPickles made me post a new comment to make sure that everyone knows boost blocks are now bamboo blocks. NOT to be confused with bamboo planks.
Feel free to restart the server if the people want the plugin now.
I wanted it and pickles needed permission fixing so it is now working. See this comment we are getting 30.000m/s which is pretty decent.
I'm afraid I had no involvement in the rail line in question, aside from giving it my formal blessing. @Evie is the builder/designer of the rail line in question. I can't imagine she'd disagree with it, but it's her call rather than mine, IMO
But we might soon have to change up the rail/tunnel a little bit anyway, so, I don't know whether it's worth it at the moment? We'll have to move it a bit so it aligns with Talon's biome's entry/exit points, possibly enlarge it for happy ghasts, and possibly even extend it to the Leszczyński platform, should Evie decide to.
Fair enough, I'll await the proper approval process through the relevant authorities. We'll get to construction somewhere in 2040 I recon. In the meanwhile I have set up a technology demonstrator near my house meet the super fun rail cannon!. With enough acceleration blocks we can reach 30.000m/s on the server with HSrails. So that makes it extremely suitable for fast transport.
Imho with the design guides in mind it makes it much easier to deal with stuff like inclines as well. I might take a crack at some rail between town, storage and industry at some point.
Hi it's me, the proper authorities. You're free to convert the tunnel to high speed rail; Ms. Pickles is right that further renovations to the line are scheduled, but construction will not start there for some time, so there's no point in putting off updating the rails themselves. Your permit is granted.
What!? There has been no environmental impact statement, nor has there been the required 30 days for public comment on this high speed rail project!
I demand an immediate stop work order until a formal committee can be formed to begin discussion on a proposal to start the permitting process!
Public comment? Sir, we're a 1-party state here, take your democracy elsewhere!!1
Due to a legislative exemption, because the proposed new rail line requires no new build and only utilizes existing infrastructure, it can be exempted from the impact studies and the community comment period, which it should be emphasized were already performed prior to the tunnel's original construction. If you wish to raise objections you'll have to petition the Polish national government to remove the modernization exemption -- as a humble local official, I have nothing to do with it.
Minecarts can go through portals now, right? I wonder if that interacts nicely with this.
It would be cool to have rail stations in the over world with a portal at either end, so the main rail network is high-speed and in the nether. At 30b/s in the nether that would be 240b/s equivalent in the overworld!
- Actually, expanding on that a bit, since there's been a bit of debate on where to put the transportation hub in town: what if the hub were in the nether?
As far as I know minecarts going through portals is a bit hit or miss. Even with vanilla speeds.
Does this only affect carts with entities in them? Or will it bork farm collection systems? Redstone block under powered rail is a common design for those back and forth hopper cart item collection systems
It affects both, if needed we can configure a different speed block.
Edit: Turns out it was causing issues. The boost block has been changed to bamboo blocks (not planks)
@hamstergeddon, I just came across your HS attempt near the nether hub. I think that you want to pay attention to the design considerations section I included in my above comment ;)
Me? RTFM? Never!
(I will though, thanks :D)
This was a busy week, definitely more so for @Ethilonolicbob but I'll let him write about what he's done over the past week.
Love the gas station!
People are gonna end up asking for level 3, guaranteed. Happened last season when I built the fireworks factory.
I'll take you up on that soon, after I've got the foundation of my city complete. :D
Finally got the chance to go through my screenshots of the dragon fight. Here's a pic of the gang taking selfies before the battle.
I would definitely be down for a scheduled time to be around, it's always a lot more fun when there's people around to do stuff with and getting it on a schedule is a lot easier than spontaneously checking.
Same! I already kinda want a rematch with the dragon (seeing as I fell out of the sky before it did) so I'm voting for that as our first outing.
I intend to make a residence in the End sometime soon, and I was thinking of making a "Last Shop before the End" type of thing with essentials and niceties for End dimension exploration. I would love to have a rocket gas station as part of the shtick!
Thanks again for the help with the tree farm.
I was very alarmed when I first threw the switch.
happy to help :)
Just realized my comment from last night was posted to the old thread by mistake. I've been busy the last two days.
Haven't joined the new world yet but super exciting to see the progress that's being made. I do want to contribute more to the world this time, I've got a few things in mind. It'd be fun to build a little apartment building somewhere near/in TildeTown. I'm not someone that is super creative but I loved having a small/minimal home in the last few worlds as I explored everyone else's builds so it'd be cool to expand that into an apartment/condo building. Another thing I'd love to build would be a transit system as always. The mountainous terrain of TildeTown should lend itself to some interesting system designs. Building off the idea for transit, I think it'd be cute to have a little cable car line running from lower TildeTown to upper TildeTown.
I love the cable car line idea
With the server's first transport project being officially ready, I'd argue it's the perfect time for you to join 👀
If you're holding a pre-sales on TildeTown condos, I'd like to reserve an upper storey unit please. :) small is fine
Sure! Haven't even thought about dimensions but I was just thinking of making each unit have enough space for a few double chests, furnace, crafting table, bed, and room to walk around. I'll probably join the world later today and start planning things out!
Finished with the basic structure of the condo building! Feel free to move into any of the units and to decorate them along with the building itself. I'm not a super creative person so the building is quite basic but it gets the job done. Last things I need to do are to get the windows in and doors in
Coords? I do need a little apartment in town mainlu so I can keep my own lore in it
Roughly around X -219, Z -9, right next to the Village Trading Hall!
NETHER ROOF MAP
https://tildes.nore.gg/map/#world_nether_roof:0:0:0:1500:0:0:0:0:perspective
Just added the configuration. Also a reminder, if you want anything added instructions here
I have been having a lot of fun setting up my homestead and hanging out with all my friends:
Overview 1
Overview 2
Barn
Storage
I still haven't decorated inside the house yet, but honestly i never go in it so I may not ever get around to it :P
Now that I'm kind of winding down on what I wanted to do with current projects, I'm thinking of things I want to work on next. I want to build something in town. I thought it would be very funny to build a massive Home Depot after being called out as a filthy capitalist by a certain someone (🥒), then thought maybe a tavern or brewery of sorts would be neat but now I'm considering matching police and fire department buildings. Not sure yet! I was originally wanting something useful but I think the industrial district is plenty useful and I don't really have anything to contribute at this point so now I'm thinking more decoratively.
Anyway, having lots of fun and my daughters are having a lot of fun checking it out every so often to see how everything is coming along.
I was exploring random carved out nether paths and found your home and friends!. They look like a friendly bunch!
I haven't been home in a few days, glad everyone is still happily floating around haha
Since we have now high speed rail and the path towards your base is very straight with some other stops I made it into a rail line. This means you are now connected to the hub by rail, including your very own nether station.
I took inspiration from the cobblestone ruins you had there with stairs going nowhere and basically decided to build a two story building in the same footprint. I hope you like it :) But, it is entirely your station so if you want to redo anything with it that is absolutely 100% okay!
Bonus shot.
Amazing! I partially chose the spot because it was so inline cardinally to town, very happy to see this as I was thinking to myself that eventually I'd have to put one together. Thanks!!
Um, I was not the certain someone in question.
I offered gold florens for a horse!
Yes, that was not me
D:
So I have made quite the progress on community storage v2. Except for the initial priming of the shulker boxes, setting filters, and placing the water stream, half of bulk storage is built. It may seem excessively large at the moment, but I want to have space for more farm outputs this season in bulk storage.
I also made a basic dispenser autocrafting system. If you need a large quantity of dispensers let me know (and maybe provide materials, so that I do not have to visit the various farms needed to collect resources).
Edit: I did the math and bulk storage will be able to handle 84 items. Last season bulk storage handled 18 (but there was the limitation of a glitch in my design which lead to only 18, despite having 36 slices). And we only used 16/18 slots last season
@teaearlgraycold you might remember I had mentioned that the cauldron concrete datapack wasn't working. Looks like @j0hn1215 also made this discovery yesterday, so it wasn't a temp issue - the datapack isn't working. Maybe we should try to reinstall it or something?
while we're at it, I'd also want to recommend adding the vanilla tweaks "back to blocks" crafting tweak and the "charcoal to black dye" crafting tweak
Hopped on the vanillatweaks discord, found people talking about it and one person who found a fix. Fix has been applied and it is working now.
@teaearlgraycold ^
\o/ thank you overlord creesch
@TangibleLight, a piglin got you at the gunpowder farm. I have put your stuff in a shulker there.
I also added a little fence gate next to the portal to make it a bit more safe in the future.
🪦 thanks
I did have the foresight to put my valuables in my ender chest, but I appreciate you collecting the building materials.
The nether hub is basically built (at least the outside). A lot of paths, rails, and things have been destroyed. If it is leading outside the dome, it needs to be re-routed to one of the 4 exits.
Next up: making it look nice.
Tremendous amount of work. Thank you!
Getting locations added to our webbased bluemap instance (Your home, farms, factories, landmarks).
Bluemap?
Bluemap is a live 3d map of the server you can access through this link. On it we also maintain markers for things like player homes, landmarks, farms, factories, etc.
Markers can be toggled from the menu in the top left corner - clicking markers - gives you a list to toggle and you can also click through - to see individual markers.
The list you see in the menu is specifically for the world you are currently viewing. So if you are, for example, looking for farms that nether based you should make sure you have the nether selected.
Cool cool cool, how do I get my stuff added?
Good question! I'll be adding these locations, all I need from you is the exact coordinates (X, Y, Z) as a reply to this comment together with a description. You can get the coordinates very easily from bluemap itself click on the exact block, then click on the popup to copy the coordinate.
I'll add the following things: Player homes, Farms, Factories, Portals, Train routes and stops, Canals, Potential other important community landmarks
I have added my thing to the book in the town center.
That's great and if I have time I'll grab coordinates from there as well. However typing over all coordinates by hand from the books is tedious work, so I much prefer it if you also leave a comment here.
Screenshot time!
I have been exploring a bunch and come across a variety of things:
Some stuff also did happen in town:
That bodycam pic is still hilarious. For the record, we had 'infiltrated' someone's unbuilt plot to try out some Trade Hall floor patterns - but we left it as pristine as we found it when we were done 😜
Edit - thanks to Creesch, the farm is now functional. coords are x: 223, z: -1761. next project: create easy access from the nether.
So, I've built a guardian xp farm using ianxofours design.
It's AWESOME when it works. Zero to 30 levels in a minute.
Sadly, it breaks when someone is in the nether. As you may imagine, that's very far from ideal.
I've tried two different types of chunk loaders: a hopper based item loader and a minecart-based loader (not gonna link - there's a bazillion). Based on what I've read, a hopper-based loader would be best, because they're more resilient to server restarts. Sadly, neither of them works.
Emblematic of my growing desperation, I asking different LLMs about this. One suggested possible changes to the server configuration:
I don't know if any of these are hallucinations or legitimate solutions.
If i can't get this to work, I may start over and try this farm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0XDeqQ30a0 it will just take longer to get functional.

#4 (the plugin) is the only one that actually would do anything. The non-plugin alternative is that you get a second player to AFK in the Nether at the same time but standing near the exit portal. I would say "just wait for players to leave the Nether and eat the loss" but since Talon is in there building the hub that's not going to happen.
Mobs despawn when further than 128 blocks from a player. If there are no players in the Nether, then there's no players to do that check and the game keeps the mobs around. If there is a player in the Nether and that player is more than 128 blocks away, then as soon as the Guardians come through the game sees they're far away from a player and despawns them.
We can do the plugin, I'll check it out.
Yeah sounds reasonable to me
thanks, gents!
Installed the latest stable version of the plugin (released in 2023). Since it uses paper/bukkit APIs that should work find and it seems like it does. There are two newer versions from last year but those are beta releases and I am not sure by the same person. I am still looking at that newer code, it mostly seems to deal with a some edge cases about name tagged hostile mobs.
Anyway, seems to work great for now. I am going to look at those beta releases to see if we might actually want to update, but for now this did seem to be the best approach.
We can probably do the plugin, I am checking it out later today
I'm slowly making progress on the custom forest. The goal is to have a slightly magical, possibly mildly spooky oak forest at the bottom of the hill, where my house is located, and a more airy pine forest at the top. I'm trying to make the landscape feel immersive, but detail work can get pretty tedious!
I've added some more pictures to my folder https://zipline.bauke.xyz/folder/cmkcp0r4o0002akijoc43w4vm
Some of my personal favorites:
Bob and Bunny had an enormous amount of fun testing the new rails. Those two pictures of them are great!
If you need a location for a third studio apartment, you can choose any empty layer of my base. Have bubblevator access.
I just spent half an hour trying to understand some redstone mechanics (specifically gravity duplicators) and apparently no one is doing anything but videos these days. Isn't there anywhere that does text-and-diagram tutorials anymore? And how the hell do I find them because "-video" ain't doing jack.
grumble grumble off my lawn &c
Unfortunately, no, the current meta in the technical minecraft community seems all about videos, views, and clout. I find it endlessly frustrating; searchable written reference is so much more valuable! I've been pushing for more written reference in my own corner (wireless redstone) but haven't gained any traction. Everyone sees videos and discord servers as sufficient, so why waste time writing?
I miss the days when the minecraft forum was the central place for all this.
For gravity block dupers specifically: the minecraft wiki has the only written reference I know, but it's not exactly a tutorial. https://minecraft.wiki/w/Tutorial:Block_and_item_duplication#Gravity_block_duplication
Same frustration for me but last season. As TanglibleLight already shared the minecraft wiki (please not the fandom one) does have some good information here and there.
@teaearlgraycold, I was just talking with @TaylorSwiftsPickles during my lunch break about bluemap. Are you okay with me attempting to set up a second nether map for the roof? Looking at the documentation I think it should be possible but wanted to check with you first.
I'll make sure to at least trial on a local bluemap instance first anyway.
A proposed extension for the high-speed rail network to the South/East:
https://imgur.com/a/0kPxOZG
The orange section could be underground/water to avoid interfering with builds in the area.
Potential stations: Mendanbar's Castle, Woosley's (sp?) mushroom island/sky islands, ApexCaster's Coral Oasis.
Is this a transparent attempt to extend a high speed line to my future build without having to build it myself? Absolutely.
Yes, but also no. Let me explain ;) I really want the high speed line we currently have to serve town, specifically connect storage and industry and have people easily loop around.
However, I already have been thinking about line extensions and separate lines. Bront is building a transit hub under town hall so your proposal can easily be its own line :)
Edit: No promises if or when I'll get to them. Building rails over long distances is pretty tedious work as I discovered last season when finishing the purple line. So, I am planning to build more lines but will be pacing myself.
I can build you a tunnel bore in like 5 minutes if you find yourself in a situation where it might be handy. It's mostly useful for digging through deepslate though since a beacon will be faster when digging stone.
Most of it will likely be above ground. Otherwise we might as well do a nether rail. The tedium is mostly in laying the rails and stuff.
Thanks for the offer though!
I've been having a lot of fun building farms, but the only thing left on my list is a flower farm after which I'm kind of out of ideas. Has anybody got more requests?
Shulker farm!! Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top :D
I've just built all the modules for the flower farm and realised I've gone wayyy overkill - to run them all would need like 200k bonemeal per hour, and the only thing that can supply that is a huge wither skeleton farm (stromne's wiske train). So for now I'll just set up those modules for manual running (byob - bring your own bonemeal), and then go yak shaving. My next plans are:
Although, while the flower farms need an obscene amount of bonemeal they also run extremely fast. 1 hour is probably enough for a lifetime dye supply for the server. So maybe I shouldn't worry about giving them a constant bonemeal source.
There are other farms that create bonemeal, so if it ever needs more, it can be restocked from elsewhere. Not everything needs to be self-sustaining
For a redstone component factory, if you want we could make plans to incorporate that into community storage. It might work well as a side wing. Although, I think a shulker farm would be useful before redstone components. Also, if you need any dispensers for farms, I do have a temporary dispenser crafter that you could use
I was thinking I'd stick it in a basement under the industrial district, also so it can be fed directly from some of the farms. But if people prefer it by comm storage then I'm down for that!
Under the industrial district makes more sense for feeding supplies to the crafters. Whereas having it be at comm. storage would be more convenient for picking up components when doing a project. I think both locations are valid. If I do manage on doing the future goal of having supplies automatically transported to comm. storage from the industrial district later down the line, I do think that having the crafters at the industrial district would be ideal.
Raid farms aren't as good as they once were, but they're still possible to build. Might be useful for totems and emeralds?
I've now finished a sand duper and a bee farm.
Sand duper:
1300 62 967 (overworld)
162 32 119 (nether, east tunnel)
Watch https://youtu.be/epWigQigG0M?t=790 for usage instructions.
Bee farm: -2 62 -65 (overworld)
Thanks! I look forward to my new temporary career as a chandler.
Shulker farm is done. It's at -1600/800 in the end, the best access is via the (sign-marked) gateway at the back of the main island. You'll need wings. I've also dropped a box with a few stacks of shulker shells in the middle of town.
The flower farm is not done per se, but I've made it usable at least. It's around -1100/-1800 in the overworld; there's 11 modules spread throughout the flower forest biome, they're all marked (but not as clearly as I'd like) with the type of flower they output. You'll need to bring your own bonemeal.
@creesch would you add these to the map?
Thanks for the witch farm! Redstone and gunpowder at the same time!? Who could ask for more, really...
I did notice that two of the sweepers were broken, so I fixed them. I assume this is because they were running when somebody left the farm. To try and prevent that, I've patched on a lever at the sky platform so that you can turn the farm on and off from there. Hopefully that reduces the chance someone leaves while it's active.
Patching in a proper off switch has been on my to do list since I built it, thank you!!!
Bee farm! We were talking about it on the server earlier.
Enderman xp farm, wither skeleton farm, sand duper, dark oak farm, mangrove farm, dye factory, redstone component factory. If I think of more I'll let you know ;)
I realised today we have the data pack that makes husks drop sand; if rates are good enough that seems more fun than a duper.
The redstone factory has been on my mind for a while now, what's holding me back is that the design I would want to shoot for is massively complicated and would probably take me weeks lol.
I was one of the people excited about the husk sand data pack last season, but unfortunately the spawning rules for husks makes farming at scale somewhat underwhelming.
A hoglin farm might also be useful for pork chops and leather.
Of course now the YouTube algorithm serves me a vid about some absurd sand duper that could probably serve the server's lifetime sand supply in just 5 minutes of running lol.
We would still need a concrete duper anyway
Have dupers been built in previous seasons? As far as I understand they don't work on paper, or may need some specific config set?
We had a duper for all concretes + sand last season. @mintysaurus built it afaik
I just started working on the duper, but when I went to break the portal frame using the mushroom trick it didn't work. @mintysaurus do you remember if last season @teaearlgraycold needed to edit any of the paper settings to make this (and the duper itself) work?
The mushroom trick was patched out in 1.12.5. You can use any bedrock breaking method to break the end portal frames.
I encountered this while building my portal room. Ultimately I decided not to break the portal frames, but supposedly the TNT-based bedrock breaking method will work for these also. I've been using this contraption (timestamped video) for punching the holes in the nether roof with great success.
Do we have a squid farm for some black dye sacs?
The guardian farm also produces ink sacs. Low quantity though.
good to know
Moss farm would be nice!
Pickles already has a moss farm
Do we have a hoglin farm yet? I found that pretty handy last season for getting leather and porkchops.
Yes, on the nether roof.
The hoglin farm is really small and slow, so it would need to be built up to be effective. But the bartering hall provides leather.
Could the witch farm be made fully automated so it can be an AFK spot unless there's a reason not to?
Do you mean fully automated as in not swinging a sword? It's possible but would make the rates pretty bad, it relies on the looting III.
We have some people who don't mind AFKing for a few hours at spots. The farm in previous season was getting so full we expanded storage a few times and I added autocrafting of redstone to it.
I just remembered that the witch farm in the first season was passive and seemed to work out okay as I was often AFK there, wouldn't mind doing the same here.
Going by the wiki the rates with Looting III are 125% of the default for redstone and 250% for the other materials, so unless I'm missing something then the passive version needs 2.5x the time to get the equivalent amount of drops (with more redstone). Three hours AFK would then surpass one hour of active farming, but I'm not sure how much people are using it currently.
As someone who doesn't have anything configured to auto-hold a certain input and doesn't want to figure that out, a fully passive farm would also mean I can actually get anything out of it.
Given the demand for rockets at the gas station, I've been using the witch farm while playing other games, checking in every once in a while to make sure I don't starve.
Playing other games?!?! Is that even allowed?
Sorry, haven't been super active, been wrapped up in trying out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for the first time and it has me enthralled.
Might try to hop on more once I get through the game and get back to expanding my little tree village area I've been starting.
Having finished-ish the wall around my castle village and adding a road and dock over towards Seaside Gardens, I decided it was time to give it a name: Portus Moenibus. Not terribly creative, I know, but it fits.
But it seems like I should have done an environmental impact study before beginning the waterway expansion I mentioned last week, because my diking and ditching and flooding, possibly exacerbated by some lumber clear-cutting, has led to significant coastal erosion compared to last week.
I finally selected a plot of land to build my own little cottage in the village, but the initial survey had to be scrapped because I can't count. I'm working IRL all weekend and the kids are home Monday to celebrate the only King we Americans formally recognize, so that might have to wait until Tuesday to really get rolling. But once it does I think a vacation home in Tildes Town is the next step.
The netherhub project is getting to the point where I am running into the temp paths that have been created. I am trying to leave them alone for the most part for the time being. But any that lead out of the dome are being taken down.
If these paths are important, please create permanent tunnels connecting to the exit ports. I have no plans for said tunnels, so make them however you like.
I have a paved path of deepslate bricks from a temp path to my portal in the side of a netherrack cliff (branching off of the path to the blaze spawner); feel free to demolish as needed - it was not meant to be permanent anyway. (It's the portal that leads to a lil' spot of lava by an underground waterway WAY down below the ground)
I have started connecting all paths I am aware of to their respective exit gates/tunnels. I have finished up the east gate so feel free to disconnect the one going in that direction (blaze farm and guardian marked routes).
I'll do the same for the other ones tomorrow and will let you know when those are also done. West I'll leave to the Polish folks though.
I've finished my little island house and I'm now starting on connecting to my Work-in-Progress Underwater Base.
I'd been relying on nautilus to get around, but mine both died in a murder suicide plot, so I'll have to breed up some friendlier ones.
I'm making decent progress towards my house (shamelessly stolen from Youtube) around -1000, -120 (my somewhat frequent elytra-related deaths notwithstanding). After I finish the house, I think I want to extend the ravine next to it so that I can build a bridge and a connection to the main path, and put a river in the ravine that joins with the river below.
I went pretty hard at the start of the server while I was on holiday, but now that it’s come to a close (and after a prompt from @secret_online), I figured I’d post about what I’ve been up to since joining.
All my doings since joining
When I first came onto the server, Secret had set up on the hilltop to the east. As a caveman at heart, I immediately began tunneling into the mountain to create a storeroom using Copper golems. I already understood the fundamentals, so setting up a day-one automated storage system with Copper golems was really simple—and incredibly nice to have. Being able to dump items into a chest without worrying about sorting most of them was a huge quality-of-life win. While exploring the caves below, I discovered a large cavern. Secret later revealed there was another massive cavern directly beneath it. With that knowledge, we made a plan to merge the two caverns together. With that goal in mind, my next project was an iron farm. This would provide fuel for villager trading (emeralds and tool-repair XP), as well as a steady supply of hoppers. To make it work, Secret and I dug a small shaft between the two caverns. I also built a pumpkin farm to supplement iron trading.
I really wanted early access to froglights for building, so my first community project was a froglight farm. I originally built it with a Copper golem item sorter, but I wasn’t happy with how it performed, so I scrapped it (you’ll probably come across Copper statues scattered across the Nether roof near the farm). That rebuild gave me the opportunity to learn minecart item ejecting, as well as how to manipulate items with pistons to shoot them over sorting arrays without using water. I didn’t anticipate just how much dopamine I’d get every time someone earned the froglight advancement.
Using those froglights, I decorated the iron farm—now known as the Birdcage—which has become a centerpiece of the cavern base. I also built a slime farm to supply slime for upcoming projects, as well as a future plan within the cavern base that I’ll reveal later.
Secret and I also constructed the community gold farm, using what I learned about item manipulation from the froglight farm. After farming wither skeleton skulls, I built a beacon. With Haste II active, I dug out and fully merged the two caverns, which yielded around 20 double chests of andesite which was deposited in a chest silo at community storage. I then painted the cave roof and partially decorated it with glow vines (which will receive an aesthetic haircut later). I also built a moss farm to suppliment this project.
Finally, I built a really nice eastern path (name pending), continuing the main east–west overworld road between the Nether portal near the industrial zone and Secret’s mountain tunnel—a project I’m extremely proud of.
I wrote this up while in a hotel room while out of town, and do not have access to get screen shots. I might be able to beg @secret_online to reply to this with some
Ha, well that mystery is solved. 😂
As requested, here are links to what @Ethinolicbob has been working on, with added commentary from me because a list of just "link link link link" is boring. Sorry UK folks, they are imgur links, I will see about hosting images elsewhere at some point. For now you'll just have to log onto the server and see these things for yourself.
Placed the schematic for one side of the multi item storage system. Screenshot showing placement of schematic.
@Noox this will give you a rough idea of where my build will be. The technical portions are within the borders of my claim, although the aesthetic exterior might need to extend a few blocks out, but unsure as I have not planned that build out yet
Edit: I miscounted chunks, so there is actually seven more slices on the north side. For context, S2 comm storage was 24 slices per side, totalling 48 categories in multi-item sorters. This season I have currently planned out 35 slices per side, totalling 70 categories in multi-item sorters. I am considering that once it is built and categories planned out, I might tear down a few slices on the south side. However, I am definitely planning on going bigger this season for two reasons. The first is to have it support more players (since it is being built when the server is more active). The second is this season I want comm. storage to have the capacity to handle storing farm outputs
Can't get bluemap to display where I've decided to build a base, out at the negative corner of the world by the world border. It only displays out to about negative 5-6k on either axis, but I'm at -7950, -7950 or so. Is there some trick to making bluemap render out that far that I'm simply missing through unfamiliarity?
You are in the “here be dragons” region!
It only renders out to a certain distance unfortunately. We tried to render the whole world last season but it didn't work out so well (think we ran out of disc space?).
@priw8, we are working on a metro system and I ran across your portal. It was really close to town portal and as it turns out crosslinked with it so not really doing anything for you anymore. I hope you don't mind, but I have broken it down in favor of the metro tunnel.
I honestly completely forgot that portal was even there, I think I walled it off at some point, hah. Don't worry about removing it
@priw8, missed you!
I've been a bit busy in the recent weeks so I haven't been able to play, but I should be able to find some time to get back into it soon ^^
Seems like the UK are blocking Minecraft Java chat unless you send your selfie to some “trusted” party (trusted by whom?) by February.
Might affect the “legality” of our chat mod? I dunno man. I’ll just refrain from chatting.
The mod will not be affected directly. It is just the same chat is within minecraft on the same machine.
A quick google search also shows that a lot of it is mostly rumour based and whatever is actually reported by mojang is about bedrock. I wouldn't worry about it too much yet to be honest.
My guess is that at worst you’ll need to install a mod that removes whatever client-side restrictions they add for the law. This will probably hook into the existing “secure profiles” feature that servers can opt out of - and we are opted out.
Do as you want but I recommend you don’t comply with unethical (and impossible to enforce) laws like this. If you’re really worried about how your Minecraft chat isn’t blessed by the government consider that neither are your communications on Tildes. They’re just trying to rack up “wins” by targeting larger platforms like Minecraft.
I know. I was being somewhat flippant with my original remarks on this, but it does actually seem to be so that Microsoft are about to lock down Minecraft Java chat unless citizens upload their faces and IDs to some sketchy third party.
Part of the problem with laws like this is, even if it's really easy (I could probably write a client side mod to bust this on Java), the fact that I'd be breaking the law to do so has a chilling effect.
If I were in your position I’d proudly break that law.
Quick heads up, from somebody who is from the UK and is currently (at least temporarily) living abroad- it's very easy to "change" your country of residence for your Microsoft account, and then the law "shouldn't" apply to you, lol.
@positive, I was just looking at the XP farm and saw the current sorter was already suffering from the flaw I was trying to describe yesterday. Because the first chest getting very full the signal strength increased to three causing the second chests hopper to open and the filter to empty out. That's why on the guardian afk farm I have spaced them appart.
You also have the golems walking on top of chests which means they will collide even if you'd include vines. Having them next to chests with just one block of movement and vines on a wall seems to be the best way to avoid all of that.
If you want I can set it up for you somewhere this week, unless you really want to figure it out yourself. In that case I hope my included screenshots help ;) Let me know.
Thanks, @creesch!
I like figuring things out. How the redstone signal works (or doesn't) in this case is like a puzzle. I will likely wind up using your spacing, but wanted to try "fixing" the classic design first.
Also, good to know about the golem collision. I would have wondered about that once I ramped up the number of the little gremlins in the machine.
Oh hey, I didn't get to answer your villager question earlier, but: from the villagers at the bottom floor, I myself have been using farmers and clerics a lot. The latter have been really useful for xp bottles, as they allowed me to not have to come to the town to heal my tools every ~35 minutes.
I've barely used the other two types of villagers
I moved up the clerics and farmers, as well as the fletchers and 3 of the 4 butchers :)
Yay!
Another solution for storage for farms is to do the design I am building for bulk storage in comm storage. It works great because it fills up a barrel of loose items, so useful if you only need a few stacks. Once that barrel is full, it starts shulker loading inputs. It is also a relatively easy design to implement
If you replace those solid blocks with redstone dust, does it resolve the signal overflow? This looks like a modified impulsesv sorter
I'm opening beta registration for my wireless ender pearl network. There will be 8 slots for the beta, but beware there will certainly be errors and incorrect teleportations as I get the bugs worked out of the design. No warranty!
Please only reserve a slot if you're okay with accidental teleportations and willing to work with me to debug issues.
Please move further discussion to the new weekly thread:
https://tildes.net/~games/1scn/tildes_minecraft_weekly#comment-h7qs
This is awesome, but I'm not sure I'll sign up for the test given my tendencies to both
Having a teleportation network is really cool though, and something I've thought about doing especially with how transport-oriented this server is. Hopefully you don't have many issues with the increased radius at which item entities clump together, since that mechanic is important to how these machines work.
Maybe this can be changed ;D Those random deaths I mentioned happen often enough that I don't bother setting up normal stasis chambers for myself because the pearls will just disappear at some point in time and I certainly won't remember to fill them. And it's even more annoying for something like this too where the purpose is long distance teleportation.
@teaearlgraycold thoughts?
I would support - this makes most long distance teleport impractical, including the lodestone/copper golem methods that I may someday might try to start building.
I've already done some tests with the transmitters and receivers on our paper config... well, I did last season. Tea says the config is the same now, and I know that the upgrade from Paper 1.21.4 to 1.21.11 is not supposed to have introduced any breaking changes, but perhaps I should double-check this. It works fine in vanilla 1.21.11.
As for item stacking - just use unstackable items. Wooden Shovels are good if you're cheap, but Elytra are better if you want to flex.
See, I'm not antithetically opposed, as it'd mean that my (future) base might be a lot more accessible to the public. Mainly as, well, it's so out of the way that barely anyone really comes by anyway, and it'd be a shame if I built an entire city and almost nobody ever saw it. And I also generally welcome other players doing era/lore-friendly builds around the area.
However, I inherently find it difficult to make the node "fit in" inside the town, because (1) the entire project is going heavily leaning towards "realism/medium-to-heavy RP" in my mind, (2) the town itself is strictly "border-controlled" in-universe.
And I really only let myself do this because I appreciated Talon's idea of "the nether hub is my base" and thus I wanted to do something with the nether side too, to add something to their base's surroundings.
Sadly I don't have any ideas at the moment on how I could realistically (pun intended) make this actually "fit in". I'm not antithetically opposed to it, again, but if it's inside the town or right next to the border, we'd need to "baptise" the whole thing in a particular way so it actually at least kind of "fits in". I'm open to any ideas (even half-assed) though. I mean, Gravy's floating cyberpunk base is (intentionally, with my blessing) just a few chunks away from my southern border, while our bases belong to wildly different time periods. So there could be something we can think of.
I have no idea whether it fits the lore/time period of your base, but maybe an airport could work?
An airport is a good way to "handwave" the teleportation parts away, indeed, and is also part of my "might do" plans. However it also requires a stupidly massive area in order to build a reasonably-sized airport (mainly for the takeoff/landing thingamawotsit) so it's not something I intend to build in the foreseeable future, and I wouldn't want to put anyone through that gargantuan task either. Creesch and Gravy (I think?) built one last season and it took long
Yup, though to be fair you already cleared and flatten dozen as many airports. So it is all relative, the main thing why I it was taking a long time is because I didn't really feel it anymore. The season was already near the end and my calls for people to build aircraft and such went unanswered which had me not really wanting to put in a lot of time in single sessions either.
I also learned that I am not the sort of person to do big semi planned builds like this.
If it helps, for large flat areas of the same (or randomly mixed) blocks, there are flying machine "printers". I'd be happy to look into those to help out.
😬 whoops.
I had edited that section of my comment (and removed direct mention of you) because I realized it's a bit presumptuous to say "I'll go around building these giant noisy contraptions at everyone's bases! What fun!" Any build at another person's base should be by-request, not the other way around. On the other hand, I think community infrastructure is fair game.
It does still require a person to come load pearls into the node; it can't teleport you if there are no pearls. Combined with
ender_pearls_vanish_on_death, it's really only valuable for commuting back and forth between a few set locations. For example I see great value in a "Home" node combined with the "Community Storage" node - you can hop over to grab some supplies, then be right back to building. It could help with this, since it reduces travel time to gather forgotten supplies for such outpost-type builds, where you don't plan to bring all your gear with you.
In-universe, the node is not open access. Only a select few are authorized to place their pearl in the contraption. Metagame, I only have so much time and space to build and maintain/debug the stasis chambers.
I don't know a great deal about the details of Polish history here, but I imagine in such an authoritarian state that high-ranking military officers and political officials are permitted to travel more freely than the general populace; this could be Secret Experimental Military Technology™ which enables fast travel for such important persons. If you have any place for large brutalist construction in militarized areas or government intelligence offices, this could fit in there.
Even if you don't want to have a full public node at your base, I could build a personal "Home" node just for you that might help with the commute. The personal nodes are much smaller; I don't have an exact design yet but the footprint ought to be a tower about 5x5 or so with a single stasis chamber for one player. There will be a special "Home" destination which takes each player to their home node.
I'll think about it! Probably not something I would actually use myself, but I'll give it a poke and maybe find some reasonable way to make it fit in. For now I'd recommend prioritising more busy areas than my soon-to-be-flatland, but I'll poke you if I find a good idea :)
Ah, so it's Taylor Swift themed, then?
Taylor Swift was not even a figment inside her dad's testicles at the time, sorry. However, modern Poland is inherently a Taylor Swift reference, as it was practically re-created in 1989.
I can check later
server restart fixed it. Probably because pickles changed the minecraft username again causing luckyperms to be confused for a sec or something.
