Had been wondering about this for a bit. The "classics" we know had already all been written and popular by then. Right now, I don't see any major piece of writing apart from the occasional r/nosleep posts that would evoke that kind of feeling when being read which I would get reading say, "Psychosis" or "Gateway of the Mind". The "backrooms" theme was the only recent concept I know that came to be in that subculture, but that was lot more visual than in a literary format. Thinking about it, a kind of mainstreaming of this culture happened in the years before 2020 through memes and animations, and then it just faded out of memory. What do you folks here think happened to it? Where might the authors be now? Horror as a genre doesn't feel the same again since creepypastas have gone.
Edit (from a comment): Might it be so that text-based subcultures died out in favor of visual ones? SCP articles rely heavily on the visual aspect of things. I can't imagine someone putting out the effort to write out something like "Ben Drowned" and get a good audience nowadays, though of course I may be wrong.

I recently started a new job and have realized I'm not entirely sure what the scope of work is. I applied to a role that I was very well suited for and had a very clear objective. I went through like 8 rounds of interviews for them to decide that the team I applied for was CET and I am PT, which likely wouldn't work. So they made me a position with a team on the US west coast, be it a very different one. The salary is still wild so I took it, particularly in this job market, but now I'm having a hard time sussing out what the extents of my position actually are.
Has anyone been in this position before or have advice on how to narrow the scope of your work if it's a bit amorphous? Cheers!

This thread is posted weekly - please try to post all relevant US political content in here, such as news, updates, opinion articles, etc. Extremely significant events may warrant a separate topic, but almost all should be posted in here.
This is an inherently political thread; please try to avoid antagonistic arguments and bickering matches. Comment threads that devolve into unproductive arguments may be removed so that the overall topic is able to continue.

I want to donate my kidney (not to anyone in particular, which would make the process far more straightforward), but I need help navigating the bureaucracy. Here are things I have seen about living kidney donation online:
- You can select five people to get priority access to kidneys if they need it (e.g., parents, spouse, kids)
- They will fly you to where you need to go for screening
- They will cover lost wages during recovery
Now I don't know who "they" is, or how to go about getting answers to these questions. Since I'm not tethered to a particular recipient, I can choose wherever to sign up, and I want to make the optimal choice both for myself and the recipient.
If you are a donor, especially an anonymous donor who's navigated this stuff, please reach out.

- The results will be published on May 24 shortly after the survey has closed. I'll edit this topic and post a comment about it!
The current plans for questions that will be asked in the coming weeks are as follows:
Question Survey opens Survey closes How old are you? 2026-04-19 18:00 UTC2026-04-26 10:00 UTCWhat country do you live in? 2026-04-26 18:00 UTC2026-05-03 10:00 UTCWhat country were you born in? 2026-05-03 18:00 UTC2026-05-10 10:00 UTCWhat languages can you speak? 2026-05-10 18:00 UTC2026-05-17 10:00 UTCPineapple on pizza? 2026-05-17 18:00 UTC 2026-05-24 10:00 UTC Surveys retrospective + Vote for the next 4 surveys 2026-05-24 18:00 UTC 2026-05-31 10:00 UTC You may notice a change to the schedule from last week! I have an idea I'd like to work out to make the surveys more customizable and easier to set up but that will take some time, that's why I'm deciding to have a fun in-between survey and next week we'll have the vote on the next surveys coming up. :)
Please submit your ideas for questions here! Even if they've been submitted already by someone else. All input is valuable! You can view all submitted questions on this dashboard.
Thank you all for participating!
The survey has been closed and the results are in!
Thank you to all the 318 people that responded! Check out this special results page to see how the Tildes community chose!
Thank you all again for participating!
Some survey technical details if you're interested
You may notice that the results page looks similar but not entirely the same as the past survey forms do. I spent some time this week and set up a way to make the surveys completely custom, so I'm no longer limited by the options n8n's Form functionality provides and now have full control over the pages.
So to start off with I "recreated" the n8n Form look, however over time I'll probably adapt this to look and feel more like how Tildes does. And we'll be able to add other cool stuff like the pizza pie chart!

In the same vein as my thread a few months ago about flashlights, in which I was incredulous that the world has moved on from alkaline batteries to lithium, the Boy Scout in me reminds me I'm an idiot every time I go out for a hike with my anemic first aid kit.
One specific thing I'm curious about is that when I go to REI or other outdoorsy stores, I see the first aid aisle has all sorts of options for tourniquets, wound packing, etc., etc. Are people actually carrying that stuff with them, or is it all kind of a gimmick?
My nightmare is to be out hiking, have myself or someone I'm with get injured, and be like "well, we might've been able to save your life/limb if we just had XYZ item no one wanted to buy/carry".
If anyone has advice, guides on putting together a kit, or recs for good little bags to pack everything in, I'm all ears!
