I'm happy to report that I created a react project. I also installed tailwindcss!

Although I did not really do anything, what I accomplished was to lower the barrier to start working on my /r/fantasy bingo connections game when I have a bit more time (possibly not until January next year, December will hopefully be AOC although maybe I will do this instead of AOC this year)

I've been using Tailwind a lot lately, and I really like it. The documentation is good, the classes make sense, and mostly it Just Works (TM). I hope you enjoy the project. I spent some time developing a Vue SPA a few years ago and found it a satisfying way to work. I think Vue and React are similar in spirit if not in the details.

the only problem with tailwind is that if I use it too much and then go back to vanilla CSS, I have no idea how anything works anymore 😂

I'm here to cheer on others. Family is still in town from Switzerland and had other plans this past weekend, so nothing blacksmith-y occurred.

So I havent really achieved as much as I hoped to this month with editing a photo a day from my backlog. I have edited a total of 3 pictures. The first issue was I had a software issue, that ended up stopping me for a week or two. I have replacement software (darktable) that I have played around with a bit, and do quite enjoy using. However, it is forcing me into a different workflow than my current system. So I am just kind of holding off on editing more photos until I switch my computer over to Linux, so that I can set up the new workflow on my Linux install, instead of setting it up twice. However, I am currently having issues with Linux that I am currently working through, slowing down the whole process.

One lesson learned: unless someone is a real Star Wars fan, no one can tell that the blaster is a Star Wars replica and not just a generic ray gun toy.[1] So other people level of being impressed was medium. Not that I really did it for that. I did it for a fun project and to maintain the fiction that Dad can do/fix/build anything a little longer. She was happy and had a good time, and those memories are what really matter.

[1] - From my childhood growing up in the 80's, Star Wars was just the original movies and it was a lot less mainstream, so my memory is that people were really into it or not into it at all. Now the "Star Wars Universe" has so many things in it it's hard to feasibly have even seen it all (looking at you, Clone Wars animated series with 7 seasons and 133 episodes). It being more mainstream makes it feel like background cultural noise. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Or maybe I'm just cranky and old, I don't know :)

This week I cut down the old slats and installed them on the new frame. Then I hauled the old mattress in and put my feet up (old mattress is pretty old and stained, we are going to get a new one eventually, but it's still pretty comfy). I also installed some lighting, along with concealed wiring and sockets available for bed users to charge stuff - and I bought some fabric for curtains too, but that's currently just sitting in a pile. I'm hoping to get that sewn and installed before the end of the month though.

I spent some time looking at wireless charging pads and retractable USB sockets and stuff, but I couldn't decide and I've already blown through more than I wanted to spend on this project so I'm going to leave that for another time. It did also occur to me that the a majority of our guests may not have phones with wireless charging (I know, but they're our various parents and they don't update their hardware very often - my mum's phone is older then my kid and kid was six last month!)

Anyway, good progress and tonight will be the first time someone gets to sleep on this bed. Hopefully I will not wake up in the night to the sounds of a bed collapsing! It's really good and solid, even the kid bouncing on it at full power barely wobbles the thing.

I would like to talk about the tool in some of those photos, my Shinwa Pick-up Ruler which is so useful. The little sliding stop lets me accurately and repeatedly gap stuff - making sure the slats were evenly spaced, or getting the light strip equidistant from the frame. Also the little kicker at one end makes it really easy to pick up. I will admit to a slightly dangerous (to my wallet) addiction to Shinwa measuring tools. They're just so good though! And the cute little penguin is on every one...

Love the feet pic! (Not like that though) It’s so cool to see you lounging on your own handiwork. Hope your first night on it went well!

Argh, am I on wikifeet now?! :) Reports from the in-laws were positive: my father-in-law, who is a very tall chap, failed to bump his head on the frame and they both slept very well as well.

What's the saw you used to cut down the slats? I don't know if I'm going to do much more woodworking, but there are some things around the new house that I guess don't have to be made of steel.

All good! Reports from the in-laws are that it's very comfortable, the lighting is fantastic, the height is more comfortable for elderly knees than the old bed - and my father-in-law even managed to get in and out of bed several times without banging his head. He is somewhat taller than me and was a little worried he might take a few knocks..

The ruler+stop combo is great, I have the 150 and 300mm versions, but the 150 gets the most use by far. It's good in the context I was using it here, but it's also very handy for transferring measurements when you can't easily see the ruler, or just don't feel like reading it. Do not do what I did, and get suckered into buying a bunch of Shinwa stuff. Except it is all superb so maybe treat yourself occasionally. This set is also a favourite (I once spent an hour on someone's podcast talking about that square)

The saw is a Gyokucho 112 Kataba which is new, and I very much like it. It's incredibly sharp and cuts very cleanly. I didn't have to plane or sand any of the joints on the bed after cutting with that saw, they were clean and square and ready for assembly right away.

I went right off woodworking for a while when I got my forge and my welding set up, but I'm going back to it a bit more now. Although my next project might involve some amount of aluminium fabrication, which is not something I've done much of, and I'm not sure I can use my crappy MIG torch to do either.

Honestly, if you aren't welding a huge amount of aluminium, it's easier (and probably cheaper) to just get a cheap TIG that can do AC welding and will outweigh the high production rate of an aluminum spool gun (which you'll want/need).

I did a lot of work on my knit project this week and made it all the way through Part 3 over the weekend. This part was a lot longer than the first two, so I've only just started on Part 4. I'm not going to be able to finish it by the end of the month, but I've made a lot more progress on it than I usually would without a deadline.

Edit: oh no oh crap I don't remember whether I disabled Redshift before I recorded all that gameplay footage at the very start of this project. Oh well, I'm not fixing it now either way, hopefully it looks fine...

I would say I failed. Unfortunately life got in the way. I got sick partway through the month, Space Age released, and I have been traveling for the past week. This project had to take a back burner. I will be trying to make a good loaf, and I think it’s possible, but I didn’t succeed within the month.

I wouldn’t call it a failure! You made multiple good attempts, and I enjoyed following your baking endeavors. Even if it didn’t end up where you wanted it to, I’m still glad you participated.

Welp, I forgot to leave an update for the past two threads.

Work on the guide slowed down in the second half on the month, but it didn't stop.

I have a few Extra Deck cards to cover and comment on, and then I'll do one final pass through all the pages to see if anything incorrect stands out, or if anything crucial is missing. Hopefully that's all done before the Showcase Thread.

Either way, the plan is for this guide to be never "finished" - Yu-Gi-Oh! is a constantly evolving game, so the best strategies are always in flux. Konami can always release new Fire King cards if they feel like it, or completely unrelated cards that massively help the deck out. So I hope I can keep it updated for as long as I'm involved with the game, and if I ever quit, I hope I can hand it over to someone in the community/Discord server. It'll be licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0, so anyone can take it and extend/modify it as needed if something happens.
