I’m just sitting over here patiently waiting for Haunted Chocolatier.
I've restarted Stardew for the first time in years as I wait for it and I'm having a great time, sooo pumped for the new one. Apparently CA's taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on a 1.6 update for stardew (which I think is mostly under-the-hood stuff for modders but I'm hoping for a smidge of new content as well -- it's apparently gonna allow us to move our farmhouse!)
I hadn’t heard about the movable farm house yet. That’s pretty rad! I also just started a new file but finally set up mods, so I’m giving the Expanded mod a try. It’s a pretty good time so far!
ooh I haven't tried SVE yet, I last played before the 1.5 update so I'm just using a bunch of QoL mods atm since I want to see all the new non-modded content first. I've heard a ton of good things about that mod though, I may try it out on a future playthrough!
I hope it comes out soon and that concernedape makes a ton of money and gets great reviews.
But I'm also sad that I'm completely disinterested in HC. The spooky bits from Stawdew are already well outside of my comfort zone and from what I know about HC so far, it's like those bits taken magnified until you have a whole new game.
I'm excited for Starfield even though I'm almost certain I will not finish it. The exploration aspect looks wonderful, but I don't care much for shooters.
Not completing the main story of a BGS game is a long tradition.
Indeed, I was scrolling through looking for this comment #^-^# Supergiant has never let me down with a game yet, and the witchy vibes are something I am super thrilled for.
Oh this is the first I've heard of the sequel. Are they close? Good Riddenxe is still on my regular music play list. The voice acting was such a delight and the dialogue was very well written.
There's still half of 2023 😆 give them.....more time. I hope they're just gearing up instead of stuck in development hell
Palia is a charmingly cozy MMO about crafting, exploration, and socializing. Hunting is the closest thing you get to combat, you cannot die. It's as laid back and chill as an MMO can be, and cute as all get out.
I'm really glad I took another look at this, because I was somehow under the impression that this was from one of publishers on Steam who has a history of making really cutesy games that are right up my alley to play with my husband, but then releasing them broken and moving on to the next game before the broken one, well, isn't.
This is a brand new studio, I had no idea. It looks like a good time.
Fascinating. That sounds like something I or some friends might be interested in.
Interesting! Thanks for posting the link - I signed up for updates, and did the survey, which apparently makes you more likely to be selected for playtesting.
Given that it's an MMO, how frequent or important is socialization in this game?
This looks like it would have major fishing-in-2007-runescape vibes.
I've played a good chunk of BG3 while it's been in early access. It's excellent and quite a lot of fun, if you enjoyed Larian's work on Divinity you'll have a great time with it. My main critique is that I dislike the combat action system, but I have a lot of issues with it from my time with D&D 5th edition and it's modeled on that, so... not unexpected. I think Divinity's action point system is perfect and wish it was used in BG3.
Talos Principle 2 is also my on my hype list, especially since my puzzle apetitle has been whetted by Tears of the Kingdom shrines recently.
How daunting is BG3 for someone who hasn't played many Larian-esque games before? The most similar game I've played is Pokémon MD but even that as a comparison is a stretch.
The obvious one is Final Fantasy XVI at the end of June. It's the next big release after Tears of the Kingdom that I'm going to sink a ton of time into.
In the mean time, I'm debating whether or not I want to pick up Diablo IV. I wasn't super impressed during the beta - though I only played like 3-4 hours during said beta. The reviews coming out now are really positive and I have a bunch of friends playing. But not sure it's worth $90 right now and I still have a lot of Tears of the Kingdom to play.
Wait for diablo 4. It's yet to be seen how aggressive the monetization is going to be and acti-blizz is known to pull fast ones a few months after launch.
I've got Cities Skylines 2 and Starfield added to my wishlist on Steam, hopefully they turn out well. Also word on the street is that Civilization 7 is under development but I don't think there's been anything concrete yet.
Oh shit, I forgot about CS2 (and ironically Counter-Strike 2). Jeez, I haven’t heard anything about it. I wonder if we’ll hear more at Summer Games Fest.
The Derail Valley Simulator Update.
Derail Valley started out as a small VR-focused train game with a non-VR mode that kinda blew up, the devs pivoted and changed their vision for the game to attempt to match the unexpected fanbase's wants/wishes where they're actually viable. It's already one of those Early Access success stories akin to Subnautica or Minecraft IMO and the Simulator Update is going to add so much new content, add so many new QoL features, etc.
Oh yeah, and it already has an active modding scene.
No Man's Sky just released an update to make the game available in macOS natively, but they also said that new content will come out shortly after so I'm looking forward to that.
That NMS is still getting meaningful content updates over half a decade after release without relying on typical aggressive GAAS monetisation is genuinely delightful to see.
They have done an amazing job with that game. My 10 year old wanted it about a year ago and I tried to explain how terrible it was and the backlash. He kept asking about it so I did some research and I was blown away. A developer released a dud and went so far above and beyond to make it right. Needless to say we bought it and he's uses a lot of his screen time exploring that universe.
Silksong. Last time anyone even mentioned part of a date alongside it, they said it was coming this year. I’ll be surprised if it actually does, but I’m here for it whenever it arrives.
In a recent interview I believe Team Cherry confirmed it won’t come out during the rumored June release date, so who knows when it’ll come out.
Yeah, the publicist for Team Cherry put out this statement on May 9, 2023:
"All we can say is that the game's not coming out in the next two months" is a very Team Cherry update, hahaha.
A few.
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is finally releasing on the 19th August and I'm really tempted to book the week off from work so I can play the shit out of it. Jet Set Radio Future is my favourite computer game of all time and this will honestly be the closest we'll ever get to a new JSR.
Metroid Prime 4, because if it hasn't been cancelled, I would not be surprised if it were released on Nintendo's successor to the Switch.
Agent 64: Spies Never Die. Maybe this year will be when it releases. Having a spiritual successor to Goldeneye 007 release on PC with a fully-fledged level editor will be glorious indeed. You know that people are going to spend their days remaking Goldeneye maps.
Oceanhorn 2. It's already out but it's an Apple Arcade timed exclusive and fuck paying Apple for a subscription. First game was quite good but felt a bit too much like an amalgamation of A Link To The Past and Wind Waker. The sequel has gone fully 3D.
DokeV is another game where I can't tell whether I'm excited to play it, or to find out what the fuck it's actually about.
My guess is that Metroid Prime will come out on both the Switch and its successor, much like what happened to Breath of the Wild. And yeah, it looks like there are some issues with the development of the game. It might just be issues with finding a new formula that works for the new Prime though, instead of straight up development hell.
Goddess yes, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk looks like a ton of fun. All my husband knows about JSRF is "Syd really gets pumped when it shows up in places", so he'll get to try it out. Excited to share that with him.
I'm interested in finding out more about DokeV as well. It looks interesting, but they keep changing what it is and haven't put much info out about it lately. I'm not as hooked on Metroid but they're usually good games. I'm not as familiar with the others, I'll have to look them up!
I’m so excited to see someone else mention Oceanhorn 2! Just received an email about it finally releasing on PC and consoles so can’t wait to pick it up later this year. Hope the wait is worth it. Loved the first one.
Elden Ring DLC
Death Stranding 2
Seconded on the Elden Ring!
Death Stranding is such a wild experience. The amount of weird that game is with a AAA budget really is something. Loved every minute and can't wait to play the sequel.
Meanwhile it's commonly agreed that From's best work comes in the DLCs, so I can't wait to see what they do with Elden Ring.
Elder Scrolls VI one day…
im in a sort of quagmire of hope and despair thanks to the new metal gear announcements
on one side, the hd collection is finally getting a pc port (probably, we still dont know yet) which would be wondrous for my religious yearly playthroughs
but on the other hand, it is inexorably linked to a remake of mgs3, a game i already consider to be nigh perfect, unable to be improved
theyd only fuck it up and sully the memory, creating a new breed of metal gear players who know nothing else but to demand new remakes for games that fundamentally should not be remade
but im a bitter old man, and none of this matters. whatever!
Cities Skylines II. I've spent close to 500 hours on the original. From the leaked screenshots, it looks like the visuals are heading toward a more realistic art direction which I appreciate.
Life By You. The amount of customisation in this life sim looks amazing. I'm hype for this one because it has Sims veteran Rod Humble leading the team.
I've been excited about the latest FFXIV patch! Getting myself into this savage tier with a new bunch of raiders, and smashing my face into the newest Pandæmonium tier has been satisfying! Looking forward to next week's reset where my raid team can get our teeth really sunk into it and get some good ol' prog underneath us, as RL has really hit us all hard this week.
I'm curious: do you drive in real life? What is...the appeal? Is it the mecha aspect? The interesting trail routes? The simulation, so that you can vicariously live another career in a different locale?
Thanks for sharing that :D I'm a "walking" kind of wanderlust person, so I couldn't understand the draw of driving sims, but I can see that it's not that dissimilar in fact.
There's a super old PlayStation game called Densha De Go! (and PS4 sequels) where you sim Japanese rails (including Shinkansen's) -- not sure if you've played, or if that's not free roaming :) being literally on rails
the original SimCity!! Oh man i lost a good chunk of my childhood to games like them...I like following my sims around too but I always wished they weren't living a commuting life where all they go is to the stupid downtown core for work. Poor sods.
Maybe one day they'll make a "free roam across Middle Earth" game haha ... maybe that's just Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode.
You might also enjoy VR head sets + google street view.
I tried playing those games but I don't think they make sense without a steering wheel. Do you have one?
Starfield.
I want to get it on day 1 and get the fabled Bethesda rough launch, as I came into their games long after they were as finished as they'll get. I'm also curious about the planetary generation system and how that'll compare to similar concepts in Daggerfall for local environments and No Man's Sky for planetary rules/environments/lifeforms. I'm also like 10% worried it'll just be The Outer Worlds with a less robust version of No Man's Sky's planet system.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the PC release. I wanna dip my toes into PlayStation games on PC and I love platformers so this seems like a great start. I'm also eyeing Final Fantasy VII: Remake, never having played the original, but oof, that price.
Really exited for Armored Core 6! I’m a fan of the other games in the series and especially love 4 and For Answer. It’s been more than a decade since the last one so even seeing it announced blew me away to be honest.
I hope it’s as good as Elden ring was, and that more mecha games show up because of it.
It's not really upcoming anymore (as of a couple of days ago), but I'm really looking forward to playing We Love Katamari Reroll - when I have some space in my Zelda schedule, that is.
Na----- nanana na na Nana na Nana na na na *Bom CHCH boom CHCH boom-- the entire soundtrack is part of my permanent core personality now.
It's a bit of an older game for sure but man is it ever fun. Have you played it or other katamari before? Are you a completionist? :) I think you'll definitely have a great time when you start it. Feel free to ping me with your thoughts on it.
I only started playing when Damacy Reroll was released on the Switch. LOVE it though!
I want to roll it up into my life.
oh what a time to be alive :D if you haven't already, the lyrics to the japanese songs are worth looking up too haha it's still one of my favourite sound tracks. very fun for driving
Pikmin 4 - I'm hoping for delightful small secrets, adorable miniature scale objects, customisable playable characters, and adorable Pikmin antics and their little songs.
Was hoping the latest total war announcement was going to be medieval 3, but pharaoh may be interesting. I'll wait for reviews tho.
Mage Tower 2 - reallly under the radar deckbuilding/TD card game that allows for some really crazy stuff. They're trying something new with the sequel but Im hoping they can pull it offf.
Duelists of Eden - One Step from Eden was Megaman Battle Network meets STS. This is the same team, this time focusing on the PvP aspect (tweaking mechanics to make it work). They did a playstest that was quite fun, if having some issues. Hopeful they pull it off because BN had a lot of neat ideas marred by the rest of the game getting in the way.
Armored Core VI - The last AC i played was FA, and it was soooo good. I got into the series around ninebreaker/last raven, and its something I'm so excited to see post ER Fromsoft tackle.
Falling Frontier - Looks like a gorgeous take on the RTS/4X style world (reminds me of Sins of a Solar Empire). Honestly it looks waaaay too good to be true, but here's hoping they pull it off.
Sea of Stars- Still finishing off Chain of Echoes, which I love, but having 2 high quality JRPG love letter games in one year is great. Feels like the people who grew up with this stuff are finally developing.
SALKER 2 - I honestly have tried to get into the first one a few times and bounced off, and I think its a much better game thanks to the mods, so Im reallly not sure Im going to like 2, even before we get into the major production issues in general, all exacerbated by the war. Still, I've always loved the idea, and I hope they can pull it off.
Paleo Pines! I love peaceful games, and a peaceful game where you farm and have adorable friendly dinosaurs as pets is right up my alley. https://paleopines.com/
Sea of Stars looks interesting, I miss a good JRPG. It looks beautiful. I hope I really like the story!

Small saga is a game where you play as a mouse in a society of mice. From the demo, it looks like you take a pocket knife as a sword and fight back against cats and other creatures.
https://smallsaga.com/
Cattails: Wildwood story - story of seasons, but all the characters are cats. You can farm, hunt, get married, have kittens. It does have a survival aspect to it so you do need to keep your character fed. I do find it a bit silly that the cats dens look a bit more like houses inside (how without thumbs?)
https://cattailsgame.com/
Kitori Academy looks interesting, a magical school is a fun concept and I want to see their take on it
https://kitoriacademy.com/
LumenTale: Memories of Trey - a monster catching story that follows an android who lost his memories and a child who is terrified of the monsters in that world. I'm looking forward to it but want to know more about it. My one problem with the demo was a camera that gave me motion sickness. The dev team has been gathering feedback on those and will hopefully make changes.

Rune Factory 3 remake - https://marvelousgames.com/games/rune-factory-3-special
I loved the original and I hope the remake is done well. I liked the farming and social aspects as I do any story of seasons type of game. I loved the bridging two worlds theme with what your character is and who you interact with.
Interesting that my list is mostly indie games. Here's hoping they all make it to completion!
Another vote for Elder Scrolls VI! Or The Witcher 4 because I spent well over 500 hours playing through the third game.
There are currently 32 unreleased non-VR games in my big messy txt list of games that somehow caught my interest (many stay there for years before they're released or cancelled or fade into forgetfulness). Others have mentioned Palia, The Talos Principle 2 and Hades 2 which are in that list. I'm not much of a sequel guy, but I'm also interested in Oxenfree 2! It's scheduled to be released on July 12, so it's the very next release on the list (unless someone without a date surprise releases). I really enjoyed the original game.
Starship Troopers: Extermination is in early access and appears to be shaping up to be a decent game (finally a decent Starship Troopers roopers game!). It is just lacking in content and I can't wait for more to come out. I just hope they can maintain their momentum and user base until then.
Not a huge gamer but looking forward to AEW Fight Forever. I don’t follow the show much beyond clips here or there but the game has been described as a spiritual successor to the WCW/nWo Revenge / WWE No Mercy games from n64 which I loved back in the day so I’m excited to maybe relive some of the magic of my youth.
Massive fan of the show and so excited for the game to come out. From what I've seen of the game it should be a great arcade-y title with a good focus on fun and charm rather than hardcore wrestling simulations.
I learnt my lesson and I won't be preordering it (and it's technically not a game) but the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Phantom Liberty.
I know the game had lots of flaws, but after all the bugfixes and updates the game is pretty fun. The story engrossed me and it's just "nice" to exist in Night City for a little while. I hope the DLC has a good amount of content though!
I had a blast with Cyberpunk 2077 despite the hate it received. Can't wait for more content.
For me, my next big hype is that Nature Incarnate, the next expansion of Spirit Island, is now only ~2 months from arriving at my door. Hopefully. It's on the ocean as far as I understand, and not that far from arriving either.
I'm usually smoeone who doesn't try to buy expansions needlessly unless either:
In this case, Spirit Island has cemented itself as the game with the by-far most plays since release, and the variety and massive amount of possible combinations is a big part of that. Adding even more, and now with a new "type" of spirit that has an "incarnation" marker on the board, exciting! Even more variety!
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I hoping it will have that same fun feel that the F13 game had when it first launched, but keep it going. It looked like a good time watching people play during the technical test.
Frostpunk 2 cant wait to sign child labor into law again.
Man, I can't believe no one has mentioned DRG yet. Deep Rock Galactic is, in my eyes, the most gamer-friendly game on the market right now. Season 4 is starting very soon (on June 15th), and it's gonna be fun. New enemies, new cosmetics, new equipment, it's gonna be hype.
Rock and stone, brother!
The remaster of Baten Kaitos, a cult favourite game of mine from the GameCube era! I'm just disappointed that they're removing the EN voice acting, it was so bad that it was charming in a way.
I'm quite excited for the hype around Diablo 4 to die down, and see if it's actually worth buying at full price. Maybe in about 2 weeks it'll get to that point?
With the microtransactions and Blizzard's track record I am not particularly hopeful.
Darkest Dungeon 2 and System Shock. Even though they're both already released, I haven't had the time to play them. Currently working my way through Ashes Afterglow with my maybe 30 minutes to an hour for gaming I have for gaming in a day, but I've been thinking about the other two constantly and am quite excited to start on one or the other when I finish Ashes.
Even though it's really far away I'm super excited for the next Witcher game. The Witcher 3 is what brought me back into gaming at 38 years old. I hope they do it better than they did Cyberpunk.
If you know me, you’d know that there were two games that were coming out this year that were to top of my list.
One of them already hit a homerun with me in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s literally one of the best games I’ve ever played. The other is Final Fantasy XVI. Final Fantasy is my favorite franchise and it’s the game I’ve been looking forward to the most this year. But after TOTK, I don’t know what other game this year will hit the same highs as that, even Final Fantasy.
Palworld, which is Pokemon with guns (no, really) and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. I like open-world racing games, and they really seem to be taking their time with this one, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Not a game specifically, but would really like for something to not be released as Early Access. I'm over games that build around me being a beta tester where things constantly change retroactively or games that just never pan out, so it dies prematurely.
