Let's build a playlist!
It's Friday and I'm on a quest to discover new music. The algorithms have been letting me down lately. So let's just build a communal playlist!
Playlists links:
- Spotify
- Youtube (Thanks, @SloMoMonday)
- Apple Music (Thanks, @Weldawadyathink)
I'll start by adding my 5 song choices.
Leave a comment with the names of the songs you would like to have added to the playlist (let's limit it to no more than 5 per user) and I'll add them. There are no other rules -- you could choose your favorite songs of all time, what you're listening to at the moment, or anything in between.
(I guess the only other requirement is that it needs to be available on Spotify, unless somebody wants to mirror the playlist on other services)
PS. Deimos, mods, et al, I hope this isn't too gimmicky. I think Tildes is as tight-knit of a community as you can find on the internet these days and I see this as just another small way to further that communal experience.
I love this idea, but I'm not sure you should have trusted all of Tildes with the proverbial Aux cable...
Anyway, here are my contributions, I tried to throw in a variety of stuff:
Songs added.
Well, I need to find ways to get out of my comfortable little algorithmic bubble of indie rock that Spotify forces down my throat!
I am very confused
Did you listen to it? Because I'm not sure that would help with the confusion any...
Slightly more seriously, Bilmuri is the project of former Attack! Attack! guitarist/singer Johnny Franck. He mixes a ton of different musical elements and influences into his songs, including Sax solos, pop styled vocals, metalcore guitars, electronic production, and country elements like steel guitar. It's a weird mix but the songs are almost always really well done. He's also a pretty weird, goofy dude so the song titles are always pretty bizarre even when the lyrics are more serious.
If you wanna hear more, every single song on American Motor Sports is fantastic, and some other bangers from past albums include:
ABSOLUTELYCRANKINMYMF'INHOG
ANABOLIC SPUDSMAN (THIQUE EDITON) - which has a vocal feature from Lorna Shore's Will Ramos
CORN-FED YETIS (feat. Knox)
This is the weirdest small world I've ever experienced. I've never heard of Bilmuri (though, I loved and was perplexed by this track) but I knew Johnny when he was in high school. Never thought I'd see him just casually listed on Tildes.
I looked him up on Wikipedia and saw he was from Westerville, Ohio. I lived in Westerville for about 3/4ths of the 2nd grade. Its like a little foggy whisp of a memory in my life I've almost completely forgotten about as I've just turned 40. Never thought I'd come across a mention of it in the wild.
I was absent mindedly watching the movie Father Figures (it's not good) recently. At one point in the movie someone says "And that's why I moved you kids to Westerville, Ohio" and, as someone who has lived in Columbus, I was flabbergasted that a movie would have any scenes in Westerville.
Fun Westerville fact: The Westerville Public Library has/had a small museum in the back about the town's temperance movement. The first liquor license in Westerville was issued in 2004!
Wow, that is a small world moment! That's awesome!
As an aside, Bilmuri is immensely impressive to me in that he somehow made a Kevin James speech blurb into something heavier than a Will Ramos feature lol. I really dig Lorna too, just never could have expected the NASCAR (NAS-core?) breakdown.
Lol, that Kevin James call-out absolutely should not work on paper, and yet he we are...
I did listen to it, and I enjoyed it, to be fair. It was the chunky guitar mixed with the country standards that really had me scratching my head.
Yardcore or Y'allternative I've heard it called.
Ya'llternative is hilarious!
In my mind Yardcore refers to something quite different.
Yeah the whole discography is a little like that in terms of genre whiplash. The country elements come and go but the latest album has a LOT of them. Some of the EPs have a lot of Sax or more electronic production. It's a wild ride but he's pretty consistently putting out bangers.
I added a few tracks to my earlier reply if anybody wants to check out some of his other stuff.
All solid choices, love Bilmuri as well, been CRANKIN' MY HOG TO HIS LATEST RELEASES!
Just commenting on this to let you know that I really dig your choices, and our libraries likely have a ton of overlap with the choices you have going on here. In the last year, I’ve caught Dirty Loops, Clown Core, and TesseracT (closest I could think of to Mastodon haha) when they came through Chicago. Nice to meet a kindred spirit out here!
Glad to hear it! Those shows all sound awesome, I feel like Clowncore would be absolutely wild live. I almost chose them as one of my five but decided on the Knower track instead.
I've not really listened to much TesseracT but I'm aware of them and I suspect I'd like them if I ever did. Any recommendations for starting points?
ClownCore was a trip, but I think Knower is a much better introduction to the Louis-Cole-iverse for what it’s worth haha. Their live hallway recordings are so tight, it’s unreal.
Would love to share some TesseracT recommendations!
tl;dr “Of Mind - Nocturne” to hear their sound with former vocalist Ashe, features all clean vocals and is more groove-oriented, otherwise check out “Luminary” to hear their sound with current (and original) vocalist Dan; their most recent and very first albums are the heaviest, middle albums are all more chill and tended towards less harsh vocals throughout.
They don’t really have any weak albums IMO, though their sound has changed over time. You mentioned Mastodon, so I’m assuming you’re not inherently opposed to harsh vocals in the genre? They’ve had two vocalists, three if you count an EP, all with very different sounds. The easiest jumping-in point for the group is definitely the album Altered State, 100% clean vocals but the classic groove-forward djent sound that they’ve really championed. The songs on Altered State all kind of encompass one large movement, so if you have the time, I’d recommend giving the whole album a listen, but the track “Of Mind - Nocturne” is a great embodiment of the whole album. That said, Altered State is the one LP that features a different vocalist, as the rest of their LPs all feature their original (and now-current) vocalist Dan. Rather different approaches, but they’re both stellar in their own right. “Sonder” is probably the most accessible album featuring Dan, and the opening track “Luminary” is great, though it’s really a solid album front to back.
If you don’t mind and/or are looking for a heavier sound, their very first and most recent albums, “One” and “War of Being” respectively, are their heaviest albums by a long shot, with the latter even being a little bit more experimental of a sound (for them, at least). The title track off “War of Being” is my favorite from the album, though I have a hard time recommending it as an introduction to the band because it’s 11 minutes long lol. Oddly enough, with nearly all of their albums, listening to the first track of the album will give you a good snapshot of that whole album’s sound, they’re weirdly consistent in that regard.
Yeah Clowncore is definitely not entry level, lol. Although ironically they are how I was introduced to Louis Cole, then the hallway sessions.
And thanks for the TesseracT recommendations, I'll have to give them a listen soon. I'm fine with either harsh or clean vocals so that's not a huge deal, and long songs aren't particularly intimidating - One of my favorite Mastodon tracks is The Last Baron which is a nice chonky 13 minutes.
Sounds like you'll be right at home with TesseracT's long-form stuff. Hope you enjoy, and excited to hear what you think!
Wow, thank you for suggesting this. I got into a classical kick about 10 years ago and this was one of my big discoveries, but I've completely forgotten about it until just now. Thanks!
Some others that I found and really enjoyed were the New World Symphony by Dvorak and Tristan und Isolde by Wagner.
Rule breaker... I like that! :)
I'll add them right away.
oh dang, i didn't even notice. i was in the waiting room for an PT appointment and was trying to get the comment in before they called me in. you can drop IDKHBTFM.
No worries - I added them all. Hope your PT goes well.
This is a fun idea!
A couple recent tracks that I've been vibing with.
Added!
I'm glad to see Caroline is still pumping out music. I listened to a ton of Chairlift's stuff back in the day.
I was actually just introduced to her by one of my team members based on my love of Charli XCX. I quite like her style!
I've never heard of Caroline Polacheck. I'm enjoying Welcome to my Island. She does awesome things with her voice! Also, love the morse code in Radioactivity. Thanks for sharing!
You may also want to check out Chairlift. Caroline was 50% of that band before going solo.
Daydreaming - Anderson .Paak
4EVA - Ketraminé
Good Clothes - Little Brother
Every Place Is Last Place - LaRussel
… Broke - Topaz Jones
And I’m definitely checking all these songs out. This will be such a terrible mix!
Added.
No way! I'm enjoying the diversity so far. Definitely some stuff in there that I would never venture out and find on my own.
Just be glad I didn’t put Twista in there!
4EVA is great! Not a lot of songs so far otherwise which I’ve heard before, but to be frank, I always feel I should get to know other styles of music in an attempt to decrease my un-cultured-ness…
That’s so nice to hear! That song has such a funky beat, I think that’s the main reason I like it.
Love this idea, thanks for putting it out there @Power0utage !
Entertain Me - Tigran Hamasyan
The Brain Dance - Animals as Leaders
Stadium Jazz - Donny McCaslin
Animal Spirits - Vulfpeck
Golden - Cory Wong, Cody Fry
Judgment has been exercised to leave any non-instrumental metal off the list. I feel like it can be an audio grenade in these kinds of playlists :) though I’m happy to talk shop if anybody’s interested!
Yes, I'd like to order some djent, but if it was just straight-up Jazz Fusion.
Hamasyan's latest single is a banger as well.
Haha that’s perfectly put. Have you had a chance to catch him live? Highly recommend it - he leans hard into the “Is it jazz or metal” angle, throwing up some cheeky horns during particularly heavy parts, and the energy and cohesion with his live trio is stellar.
Really excited about the new album!
Discovered him about a month ago after listening to an interview with Tosin about who's music inspires him. Will definitely need to see him live. Any recommendations for more like his?
Tigran is a unique beast for sure - there are a few acts that scratch the same itch for me but most of them lean a little bit more into the jazz side. If you use Spotify, there’s an entire playlist on there titled “Prog Jazz” that does a pretty good job riding that line. I’ll list a few of the most fitting examples below but I’m sure you’ll find some that speak to you on that playlist too
Plenty of others but I’ll let you explore the playlist. Feel free to let me know if any speak to you and I’ll try to share more in that given direction!
Thank you for the recommendations! Been putting a playlist together. Also been listening to that Prog Jazz playlist. A little sad that Tigran feels kinda one of a kind. Maybe he'll inspire others, who knows.
Added!
Love this idea. Will probably listen through the playlist when it's done!
A wide spectrum of current favorites (understandable if you only add the 2-3 first):
Chappell Roan - Femininomenon
MUNA - What I Want
Alcest - L'enfant de la Lune
Batushka - Yekteniya II
Beenkerver - Vergane Rozen
Done! All 5 added.
I'll add a couple! Thank you for putting this together, I'm looking forward to getting some new (to me) music!
Done and done.
Ooh, this is right up my alley, since I relish both 1. the chance to share music with people, and 2. a playlist with a ridiculously broad spectrum of music (that said, 2 of my picks are pretty similar but I just love them both so much).
Here's a few of my finds from the last couple years that I just can't stop listening to:
Done!
Thanks for adding Down On the Beat, that hit nice today when it came up for me.
Priestess - Lay Down
Black lips - Modern art
Hallas - star rider
Myles Kennedy - haunted by design
Dave Lindholm - annan kitaran laulaa vaan
Added!
Here's mine. I hope we aren't looking for a flow because I'm intentionally trying to get a variety.
Al Scorch - Want One Ripping bluegrass
Open Mike Eagle - Dark Comedy Late Show
Paradox - 7Arc I was going to submit "recks on" by Autechre, but figured something that's a bit more interesting would be suitable, and wanted something that sorta shows off this artist well
Truckfighters - Desert Cruiser Swedish fuzz rock
Busdriver - Ego Death This song introduced me to Aesop Rock and Danny Brown, figured it would be a good share for a variety of artists
Got 'em. Good stuff!
Also recommend OME. Shame Busdriver turned out to be an abuser, loved his stuff.
Didn't know that about Busdriver but looked into it. Dang.
ABC - Polyphia with Sophia Black. Trademark experimental/technical sound with fun pop lyrics.
Someone already got a KNOWER track in so let's ramp up that weird with Flat Earth by Clown Core.
Houmous by Igorrr keeps that energy going, dig into this guy if you like the blend of instrumentation and breakbeats.
Chilling out with She's A Big Boy - Mcbaise. Psychadelic groove about pegging, what's not to like?
And let's bring it home with Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth. Protest music is a little depressing because, no matter how old it is, it's always relevant. Important to keep that sentiment around all the same.
Jeez, you're all over the map! All added to the playlist.
Variety is the spice of life and playlists on shuffle should cause psychic whiplash.
The Louis Cole love in this thread warms my heart. And love Igorrr, Hallelujah was unlike anything I had heard when I first came across it. I enjoy that all of his albums sound immensely different, but at the same time, they all sound exactly like Igorrr.
Louis Cole is a genius, I'm fucking stoked for his new album next month.
Here's some favs from my "liked music". Picking just five was harder than I thought, so there is no real rationale to this list.
Added!
Chaise Longue is the weirdest song and I tried to deteste it, but I cannot. It's hilarious and fun.
Super fun! I picked an eclectic mix:
Sage Francis - Make Em Purr
Adagio for Strings
Niccokick - I want you back
Sahara Hotnights - Cheek to Cheek
Visa från Utanmyra
Added!
I've started listening to the playlist and it is super nice to get to hear music I wouldn't have listened to without this so thank you! I would really like bit if in 3-6 month you made another post similar to this one, but with these additional rules:
Took a break from making off-by-one errors while writing Windows drivers to throw together this list:
Love Over Glory - Zinadelphia
Purple Haze - Joy Oladokun
The Healer - Erykah Badu
Adult Swim - Ruby Waters
Avant Gardener - Courtney Barnett
Switch - Biig Piig
I love these picks!
Added!
Lord Invader - Rum and Coca Cola
Dropkick Murphys - Workers Song
Carla Bruni - La dernière minute
Mississippi John Hurt - Coffee Blues (This song is where the band "Lovin' Spoonful" got its name.)
Distillers - The Hunger
Done and done!
It might be fun to use a collaborative playlist so people can add songs directly, but maybe that's too trusting. Alternatively, a semi-official Tildes Jam would be a cool experiment in realtime listening together.
Anyway, here are my picks for the moment:
Added!
I thought about making the playlist collaborative but I imagined a scenario where someone came in an essentially took over the entire playlist with malicious intent. It's part of my "be careful with 777 permissions" upbringing.
The JAM on the other hand -- now that sounds really cool! I do have a Spotify Premium account so I could host one. Maybe I'll play around with the idea over the weekend and we can set up a Jam for the second iteration of this.
That Too Many Zoos track goes hard, nice choice!
I could add loads but these five are solid choices I've been listening to recently and Cherub Rock is probably my most listened to song that ever will be. Must be well over 10k listens now!
Love me some Smashing Pumpkins!
Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Re:Re: (2016 Ver.)
Added!
In this order:
I'm in the same boat as you. To get around it, I've got a python script that pulls artist - title from a text file and adds them to a playlist. I'm getting playlists in text form from chatGPT and basically flooding my account with new music from genres I like. So far it's been working well.
Added!
Are you just prompting ChatGPT something and searching for the responses in Spotify?
this is the write up wrt the script and method.
The most basic is 'can you make me a 250 song exotica / lounge music playlist that includes Martin Denny, Herb Alpert, and Les Baxter -- but also include contemporary acts like Khruangbin and Monster Rally' -- but I started including negative prompts and more detail.
the initial response
I already listen to a lot of this stuff, so I pressed it further -- and it eventually barfed out a bunch of new-to-me artists. Not all of the tracks are bangers, but they're new and helping move along the suggestions to new territory.
Oooh! El Michel’s Affair is a favorite of mine. don’t see that name very often!
he’s great, right? i love everything he does. it’s different, but did you ever listen to El Guincho (Bombay)?
Trying with some variety on my favorite genres
Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy
Havukruunu - Jo Näkyvi Pohjan Portit
Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods
Hocico - Flesh of your Flesh
Richard Wagner - Siegfried - Act 1 - Notung
Added!
I was excited to see Astral Projection in the playlist! If you have any more psytrance suggestions, I'd love to check them out.
I grew up with the Destination Goa compilations in the late 90s, and I still listen to them occasionally.
MFG is probably closest to Astral Projection in terms of style. They have also collaborated a handful of times. Else it is Chi-A.D., Shiva Shidapu, Space Tribe, Miranda, California Sunshine and Hallucinogen.
Ooh I would have loved that cd growing up. I learned about electronic music mostly by downloading random stuff off p2p until college when I met others who were into electronic music.
I gave those artists a listen and I am surprised at how I like pretty much everything Spotify has from Miranda. Love Hallucinogen (and anything else from Simon Posford). Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
Twin Flames - Weyes Blood
Just one
Added.
Looking forward to having this playing in the background for the next few months! Here are my offerings:
Some choice picks here... I was just listening to Oceansize the other day, what an underrated band. CBP is an old favorite of mine too.
Added all but Trail of Fire. Can you send me a Spotify link?
Ahhh, it's missing! That is immensely disappointing. But luckily all of their songs are awesome. As a replacement, how about "Catalyst"?
You got it.
Full Moon Full Life came on, and I was briefly dismissive when I realised it was from Persona 3 Reload, but quickly realised it actually freakin' rules. I played P3P a few years back, and am currently playing through SMTV, and while I'm enjoying it, the music has nothing on the Persona games.
Thanks for the introduction to Bright Ambassadors of Morning - the operatic movement structure and tonal changes are phenomenal.
Secret of Boris - Room 101 (I love Secret of Boris and everything they've put out, this isn't my favorite song of theirs, but is the most popular at the moment so giving it the nod here.)
Sir Curse - Rabbit Holes
Slow Roosevelt - Cake
Dinosaur Pile-Up - Back Foot
Cleopatrick - 2008
Added. Cake is the only artist I'm familiar with out of this mix, which is a good thing!
Cake is the name of the song, the artist is Slow Roosevelt
Dinosaur Pile-Up are great! Saw them at Leeds Festival in 2013 (I think it was 2013 anyway) and loved them ever since.
The Decembrists - Burial Ground
I've been listening to it to excess for over a week now.
Added.
New album from The Decemberists? It's about damn time!
I added four of the five. I couldn't find this remix on spotify:
Can you paste in a link or is there a different version I can use?
Here you go: https://open.spotify.com/track/3ZidgUvrmVNhroQqjSpVYE
Gracias!
Added!
Done!
This playlist is getting pretty big.
What a cool idea!!! I was just thinking this morning that I needed help crafting a 5 hour playlist for a long drive coming up!
My top 5 so far:
Silver Jews - Random Rules
WHY? - G-dzillah G'dolah
The Magnetic Fields - a Chicken with its head cut off
Purple Mountains - That's just the way that I feel
Viagra Boys - Ain't no thief
All added!
We all need some manufactured positivity in our lives. None of which I can understand if course.
https://open.spotify.com/track/54mnwt3kO0uYsy0ceg14JP
https://open.spotify.com/track/6fT9eZYgSvhu9v8wzrZkdG

https://open.spotify.com/track/0RSZ8EmUPEN3ySfCgytPke
https://open.spotify.com/track/5sdQOyqq2IDhvmx2lHOpwd
All added. Thanks for the manufactured positivity!
Love this idea! Here's five from two of my favorite bands right now:
Expert in a Dying Field - The Beths
Little Death - The Beths
Flesh and Bone - Sammy Rae and the Friends
Coming Home Song - Sammy Rae and the Friends
Denim Jacket - Sammy Rae and the Friends
I'm seeing The Beths in August, very excited. Their "breakfast and travel updates" blog is one of my favourites.
I almost saw Sammy Rae a couple of years ago. Kicking myself for missing the opportunity.
Added them all. The Beths are great!
PS. I'm starting to hit my posting rate limit so I'm going to have to take a break from adding songs for a bit.
We can get weird in here:
WIGGLECORE - FLOOR BABA
run run run - rebug
honey milk island - leon chang
Habit (Blood Cultures Remix) - Cool Company
2008 Toyota Corolla - 2003 Toyota Corolla (yes: https://open.spotify.com/track/06ATooCLq2lm8tgFGE7scT)
I'll tack this on just in case anyone wants to start a second playlist honoring Toyota's unwavering commitment to reliability:
Proud True Toyota - Mac Demarco
Added!
I'm gonna have to check out the Toyota Corolla series of songs because I am very interested...
Challenge mode - genre-bending covers:
Added!
Don't know if these tracks are on Spotify but they are some recent additions to my mega mix.
Sweet Tooth - Scott Helman
Cold Cold Cold - The Family Crest
Home - AlicebanD
Constellation of Tears - Cains Offering
Stairway to the User - Boogie Belgique
Its 3:30 am and I cant sleep so here's a YTMusic mirror playlist:
https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnGSZ5-IX0NZ3ob0eN08mHPCluolt58sV&si=uG0UvYRy02_ub9lw
Will try to update when I can and please let me know if there's any mistakes.
Added all of them. I also updated my original post to include your Youtube link. Thanks!
Thanks for the introduction to Scott Helman, I really enjoyed Sweet Tooth when it came up for me this morning.
It’s been fun reading and listening through the comments. Since people seem to want variety, I’ve gone with country and country-adjacent tracks. Rockabilly, bluegrass, Western swing, folk, and a funk cover of a classic pop country song.
Robbie Fulks & Linda Gail Lewis - Wild Wild Wild
The Meat Purveyors - Who Knew?
Hot Club of Cowtown - Little Liza Jane
Robbie Fulks - I’ll Trade You Money for Wine
The Meters - Wichita Lineman
Indeed, we were definitely missing Country-adjacent stuff. Thanks and added!
Thanks for adding these - I enjoyed Who Knew? when it came on this morning while I was running.
This is the coolest idea OP! Thanks for thinking of it and hopefully we can do a new playlist a few times a year. I'm loving listening to everyone's additions to the list and really breaking out of my Spotify genre rut.
My additions:
Netrunners - Cult of Neon
The Haunted Victorian Pencil - A Winged Victory For The Sullen
Bar - San Fermin
The Weather (Acoustic)
I Fell Better Than James Brown - Was(Not Was)
Added!
Appreciate the chance to discover new things, thanks for putting this out there. I thought about overthinking this, but decided to just do the first couple that came to mind and a couple recent ones that hit for me at the moment.
Mint Royale - Show Me
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
Royal Blood - Figure It Out
Baker - Hell N Back
Incubus - Anna Molly
Added!
Thanks, stranger - I appreciate the chance you've provided me to get into something new. :)
I picked some of my favorites that aren't in there yet. It's a mix of stuff that I think is unknown or underappriciated:
Added!
Figure it'd be fun to limit myself so here's a Michelle Zauner Playlist
Little Big League - Year of the Sunhouse
Bumper - Red Brick
Japanese Breakfast - Posing in Bondage
Sable OST - Glider
Japanese Breakfast - Dreams (Cranberries cover)
Added. I really enjoyed Road Head but haven't branched out at all. Thanks!
Mxpx - let's ride
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=L-NxiLK6A-s&si=PHZxy4gou898un8A
Added.
This is fun! Here are some of my treasures.
No Ninja Am I - Better Mistakes
Mark Kozelek & Jimmy Lavalle - … Somehow the Wonder of Life Prevails
Agnes Obel - Camera’s Rolling
David O’Dowda - Keep your Head
Husky Rescue - New Light of Tomorrow
Added.
Speaking of Mark Kozelek, his Desertshore album is one of my go-to's. I also used to jam out to Red House Painters way back in the day.
I love this! Here are my submissions:
Done!
+1 for the new IDLES album. I remember putting it on and being pulled away from what I was doing and into the music - that doesn't happen to me all the time
I suppose I need to bring in some of the mainstream and oddball from the UK into this playlist.
I will be listening to all of these tracks when I get a chance, it's a great idea. Without further ado:
Kool Aid - Bring Me The Horizon
The Tempest - Pendulum
Sweetness (Katcha Mix)
Dorset Perception - Shpongle
Badddan - Chase & Status
And the song I can't get out of my head for days once I've heard it, just for good measure as it's a short EDM track:
Prada - Cassö x Raye x D Block Europe
I added all of them except Sweetness because I couldn't find that version. Can you shoot me a link in Spotify?
I don't actually think it exists on Spotify!
The closest version is: https://open.spotify.com/track/42wESne3WydEmdio2GJMdn
It's not as chilled, for sure. It'll have to do though.
Yeahhh Shpongle! I love all the levels of detail in their music. The 10k ft view to the 1 ft view, I find there's so many ways to listen. I can listen to all the sounds and rhythm as they interplay for the cohesive experience, or I can pick one "instrument" to follow, or any combination of instruments and melody in between, which changes my experience of the song, but it's always remarkably interesting.
There's nothing like a 16 piece live band with such varied instruments.
They are awesome. Most of their tracks are insanely named, until you listen to them and then understand why.
I once had a manic house party and at the end when people were winding down I just put on a Shpongle mix for people to listen to until they passed out. Epic ending.
Late to the party but here's my contribution d-‿-b
Never too late! Added.
RATATATA - Babymetal
Destination Calabria - Alex Gaudino, Crystal Waters
Hibikase - Giga, Reol, Hatsune Miku
Twilight Zone - 2 Unlimited
4Blood - KIRA, Hatsune Miku
Added!
Separate reply for a new question: when do you think you'll put out the call to expand this playlist again?
I haven't been keeping an eye on the number of songs on the playlist so I'm not even sure if additions have slowed or not, just curious.
Thanks again for this, it's been what I needed to freshen things up.
I think it has pretty much stalled out at this point. My plan is to do a sort of a follow-up post in a few weeks (after we've all had a chance to drink enough songs from this firehose) to find out what sort of surprises or new music people discovered. After that... who knows? Maybe we'll do a reboot in the future with different rules to ensure a different sound?
Excellent! I love the idea of a sequel with some twist on it.
I'm a little late to this thread but here are five songs released this year that really got my attention.
I can't find Wendover on Spotify. Can you send me a link?
Sorry mistyped the song name... Damn Squarepusher and his nonsensical song titles.
Spotify - Wendorlan
If I can add a few from mixed genres:
Where do I belong
Infected mushroom
Roll Northumbria
The dreadnaughts
Peppers and onion
Tierra Whack
Wazer wifle!
Open minded
Wonderland
Caravan palace
I hope you break out of your Spotify rut!
Oh it's already happening with this playlist. It's all over the map and I love it.
Added your songs.
Woo, Caravan Palace! Maybe it’s a sign I’m not “hardcore enough” of a fan but I’m impressed that you didn’t just go for Lone Digger as your recommendation
I just really like that song, but it’s also one of the most played on Spotify. I’m really not a hardcore fan, but would love to see them play live one day!
I AM THE INTIMIDATOR - GASOLINE
The Night Eternal - In Tartarus
Keygen Church - La Chiave Del Mio Amor
Necrowretch - Numidian Knowledge
Tim Maia - Bom Senso
Done.
I'm glad somebody added some Keygen Church! I wanted to but I already had five others.
Let’s see. I’ve been trying to learn French, so I’ll throw in some French language songs to spice it up.
Bâtard by Stromae
(I only just now looked up the translation. Apparently it’s about struggling to choose sides in today’s world where issues are presented as black and white. Pretty fitting for current events)
City of the Dead by Eurielle
Shankill Butchers by Sarah Jarosz
Midnight in Tokyo by Pentatonix
Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran
Is there any chance of getting an Apple Music copy of this playlist? Can you even share playlists in Apple Music? I might have a go at duplicating it if I get some time today.
Added!
I don't have or use Apple Music, but let me know if you end up putting a playlist together and I'll add the link to the original post.
https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/tildes/pl.u-EdAVkrVTDmJeEoz
Wow, that was quite a bit of work to add everything. I couldn't add Dreams. It looks like the version on spotify is an exclusive, so it isn't available on apple music. For everything else, I think I got the same version of each song. Thanks for setting this up! Can you shoot me a PM if you add anything else?
Thanks for doing this. I updated the original post with your link. FYI, there are about 15 new songs that have been added since then.
Updated!
I was meaning to do this earlier, but better late than never.
My contributions:
Ambrosius by Gnome (Stoner/Prog Metal from Belgium)
Heaviest Matter in the Universe by Gojira (Death Metal from France)
War of Being by Tesseract (Prog Metal from the Uk and the longest one for my list)
Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters (Post Grunge from the US)
Zero Crossfaith (Electronicore from Japan)
Added!
Also quite late to the party, but I feel these songs still bring something new to the table/to the playlist :)
Denzel Curry – Me Now (Hip hop/Rap)
JID – 2007 (Hip hop/Rap)
Ka – Destined (Hip hop/Rap)
Sub Focus, Dimension – Ready To Fly (Drum ‘n’ Bass, probably?)
Feint – Farcall (I-don’t-even-know-which-subgenres of Electronic)
Edit: I’m reminded of Standing On the Corner’s “Red Burns” album from 2017, which would’ve allowed for a bit of cheating on the spirit of this idea: Its runtime is an hour, but all the tracks are listed under two 30+ minute long “sides” – it’s cool music, but I wouldn’t add it to the playlist :P
Edit 2: if it’s not too late, I’d like to have JID’s song replaced with a different one of his (previously was:

Just when I go to grocery shopping, didn’t expect you to be so fast – I had edited my post before even refreshing to see your response, haha.
I’ve been listening to Tank on repeat recently, fun fast-paced jazz/big band sound.
Tank! - by Seatbelts
But also in honour of the eclectic sounds you’ve collected here, I’ll recommend two versions of the same song, because I can’t imagine a more severe juxtaposition than these two:
Firestarter - by The Prodigy
Firestarter - by Torre Florim
EDIT: okay, if I get five recommendations, then I’ll absolutely use my other two for sabotage...
Here’s a rickroll for future listeners who just play on shuffle without looking through the list
Never Gonna Give You Up - by Rick Astley
And for the few people who a) will be listening to this playlist in December, and b) are playing along with Whamageddon (also wow, it has its own Wikipedia page now? Cool!)
Last Christmas - by Wham!
Added, although I'm going to blame you when I have Christmas music stuck in my head in the middle of the summertime.
Ah, silly northern hemisphere residents... Christmas is already in the middle of summer! :P
OK, putting myself out there a bit to add my recentish favs 😬
Bonus: This one's not on Spotify which is a damn shame, but everyone should listen to this excellent cover:
One more runner up because I can't help myself:
I'm starting to notice a space/moon theme in my preferences.... huh.
Added, thanks!
I've been listening to the playlist and been really enjoying it. Thanks for putting this together!
Here's my 5:
All Them Witches - The Children of Coyote Woman - Not sure how to describe this. Maybe southern (US) folk or ballad, or folk ballad?
Ensiferum - Twilight Tavern - Finnish folk metal.
New Jeans - Super Shy - Very cute DnB track from Korean girl group.
Slikback - SEQUENCE - Mesmerizing electronic track from Kenyan artist.
GMS - Juice (1200 Micrograms remix) - I love psytrance.
Added 4 out of the 5. We've officially had our first duplicate with Super Shy!
Here are my contributions:
Added!
Xilent - Chemical
Zomboy - Vancouver Beatdown
Poppy - Concrete
Black Crown Initiate - Stench of the Iron Age
Rivers of Nihil - Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance)
Added!
This is so fun! I'm not seeing much indie folk on these recommendations so excited to add to the list.
Added!
Bryce Vine - Sour Patch Kids (acoustic)
Electric Guest - Dollar
Odesza - Say My Name
Watsky - Whoa Whoa Whoa
Hide (Tropkillaz remix) feat. Childish Gambino & Aynzli Jones
