I've always enjoyed collections of songs or musical pieces that weave a leitmotif throughout the progression of the entire album, whether it's up front and center or just discreetly referenced here and there, but I've also historically been crap at keeping track of them, so I figured I'd get recommendations. Do you know what I'm talking about? If so, what are your favorite modern albums that feature or hide a recurring short musical phrase? Videogame and film soundtracks are not only welcome but encouraged. Link if it's available online!

Last night while my wife was going through my Spotify to pick a song to listen to while I was driving, she mentioned that 90% of my library consists of instrumentals. (Most of which are game OSTs) I find it much more pleasant to listen to, instead of song with lyrics.

Which made me wonder, there might be some hidden/not so hidden gems that I might be missing out on!

I really like listening to video game music covers, some of my favorite artists are Freya Catherine, Jillian Aversa, Erutan, Malukah, Karliene. Does anyone else enjoy this kind of music, and do you have any recs for similar artists (especially if they are still actively posting music) (and bonus points if they have a bandcamp page)?

Im a soundtrack collector, I have a ton of vinyl and tapes of various quality and I regularly listen to a mixtape or something of film music while doing my work. I lean towards more ambient styles like Prisoners and Arrival by Johann Johannson (rip) as well as Bladerunner the best soundtrack of all time. Also, im not entirely against pop soundtracks where the studio has just got a load of songs and not written their own but often the album release misses out songs due to rights reasons, so its incomplete.

today’s top 5: Vangelis’ Bladerunner, JJ’s Arrival, Prisoners, Jerry Goldsmith’s Chinatown and Tangerine Dream’s Sorcerer.

What are people into? Nothing better than decent headphones and a coffee with a soundtrack.

I was curious how many people on here enjoy listening to game soundtracks outside of the game. I personally love when a game has a great soundtrack as it really adds to the atmosphere and overall immersion in the game. I also like collecting physical copies of them as well.

If you do, which ones are your favorite? Personally I love Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy, and Blazblue soundtracks the most.

I've accumulated a bunch of songs over the years that I put into my video game playlist and realized that I love a lot of soundtracks. From popular franchises, I love listening to Zelda music (even the BotW OST has A LOT of memorable gems) and Kingdom Hearts music.
