Hey everyone. The Steam summer sale should go live in a few hours, I thought it would be fun for us to have a topic dedicated to game recommendations. Rather than having an typical review post, I think we can do something different. Think about the games you've played in the last year and pick one that is meaningful to you, then post a comment with it and why you think others should try it.

For every big Steam sale r/gamedealsmeta does a Hidden Gems topic which is always one of my favorites to browse through. Given that the July 1 reddit fallout is upcoming though, I figure it's worth trying to roll our own version here too.

The purpose of this thread is for game discovery: surfacing games that are hard to find about elsewhere. As such, try to recommend things that are less well-known.

For general game recommendations of all popularities, use this thread. For general Steam Sale discussion, use this thread.

Ironmaster has well regarded adjustable weight dumbbells, among other equipment. They are pricey so I've been eagerly awaiting this sale. If you have a home gym it's definitely worth checking out.

I'm not sure if posts like these are allowed on Tildes and I usually don't do those but Prey is one of my favorite AAA games of the past decade so I couldn't resist posting. It's crazy they're giving this out for free!

Basically, this is System Shock 3 in anything but name. It has all the FPS/RPG elements, the space horror and enough new ideas (which I try and not spoil but any trailer/review should give you a taste) to make it more than just a nostalgia trip. I can really, really recommend it to people who are looking for a big game with lots of ways to play and intense emergent gameplay. Newer games in a similar style include Bioshock and Dishonored, so if that's something you like definitely check it out!

Having 12 choices this month is fairly significant, since it means that even people on the grandfathered "Classic" plan aren't able to take all the games and have to miss two of them. It seemed to be a pretty common assumption that there would always be 10 choices so Classic members would always still get everything, but that obviously isn't necessarily true.

I made this an "event" over on reddit, and I figured I'd also mention it here.

The Steam summer sale is alleged to start on June 23rd, and I figured it would be nice if people could go into it with current information on Proton compatibility for games so we can better know what to buy and avoid. As such, it would be great if we could all submit a bunch of ProtonDB reports this coming week.

I plan to go through my library and test high-leverage games: either ones that lack reports or games whose reports are quite old. Let me know if you're wanting to join in the "fun!"
