Tildes Book Club - How is it going with Elder Race?
This is just to check in and ask how you are progressing with our April book, Elder Race by Adrian Tschaikovsky.

I was waiting on my library to have the ebook available, but I just found out the audiobook doesn't have the same 6 week wait. Just checked out and will start listening today!
I have the ebook. So that's a start. I'm emboldened by everyone's comments on the ease of read, believing that I will have it done in time to discuss. Thanks @boxer_dogs_dance for scheduling an easier read after a harder read (among all the other things you do!)
I'm still working on Hyperion!
I hear that all the cool kids are finishing Hyperion late and resurrecting the discussion thread. You want to be a cool kid, right?
Me too!
It's such a good book (I'm gonna reread) but I love the way this book is written and its takes on mental health.
I am a little less than half way through the book, I am enjoying the book so far.
As much as I wanted to read Hyperion (and still want to), I had to skip it. I don’t want to pick up a new series until I’m done with my current one (Remembrance of Earth’s Past/The Three-Body Problem), and I also simply don’t have the throughput for something that big at the moment.
I do have my spring break coming up in a week. I want to do nothing more with my time than curl up on my couch with my dog and power through some books, and Elder Race is first on the list!
I really enjoyed it! Tchaikovsky always seems to put a touch of horror in his books, but not more than that (from what I've read). I get the feeling that all these stories could take place in the same universe; humanity went out into the stars and then collapsed.
I read this a few months ago. To help gather and remember my thoughts, I took extensive notes while listening. It'll be the first time I try referencijg for the book club, so I'll be curious to see how it goes!
I'm just past the halfway point. This is a shorter book than Hyperion.
It is a novella!
I did not finish Hyperion before the end of the month in March, so I wrapped it up a few days ago. Then I started Elder Race... and finished it in a day and a half. It was pretty good! But also a short and comparatively easy read.
I organized the schedule so that short books followed longer ones
I read it a couple years ago and I'm not rereading, but this is one of my favorite books of all time!
Elder Race is sitting on my coffee table underneath the other book I have to read for book clubs this month! I think my time budget will work out given each of the books' lengths.
As for Hyperion... it's shaping up to be my next "read on commute" book after I finish my current one. Which means I'll probably finish it in 3+ months. Oops.
I'm sure I will finish Hyperion sometime but it won't be this week or next.
Elder Race, I will finish in Time to discuss it.
I just finished it yesterday and wrote down some thoughts. It's a quick read.
I haven't been able to participate lately. This will be my first Tildes book club since Project Hail Mary, so I'm looking forward to it.
Ditto, ditto, and ditto. I also just finished Elder Race, this is the first book club book I've managed to find time to read since Kindred, and I am also looking forward to participating in the discussion. :)
Im so glad you are going to be able to participate.
@joshs likewise.
Thanks! Here's hoping this is the start of another participation streak for me. Things have finally settled down with us at our new place, so I should be able to find more time to read from now on. :)
Moving takes forever in my experience.
Congratulations on the new space.
TBH, it was actually relatively painless and reasonably quick, all things considered. We also got rid of a lot of stuff before we moved, and downsized a bit too though, so that helped speed the process up by quite a lot. :P
