Does anyone have a digg invite code I can get ?
I joined their waitlist last month and still didn't get an invite, now they even have mobile apps but still invite-only... so any chance I can get an invite code from someone here šš. I just want to try and see what it's like
Edit: I didn't expect so many comments, I hope everyone gets an invite! but I just want to say, it seems it doesn't work the same way as tildes and from what I can tell, you need to be a "Groundbreaker" to create invites and only 2 invites can be created? (would appreciate if someone can clarify that in the comments) and I'm personally not able to create invites from my account unfortunately, otherwise I would've sent an invite to everyone who commented. :(
Time is a flat circle.
yeah, my brain is having a hard time seeing the post title and not questioning my sanity. Sounds about par with the rest of this year.
I think I might be old.
I heard Alexis Ohanian and Kevin Rose got together to dig Digg out of the ashes and promote it as some new thing, but I never expected anyone would be psyched for it. For that matter, I've seen no hype or advertisement for it since it was announced like a year and a half, maybe two years ago.
Am I out of touch? I left Digg in 2008 and haven't thought a lot about it since then. I have to wonder is everyone here registering because of nostalgia or because of never having heard of it before, and they're just tuned into a marketing campaign outside my bubble?
For me it's definitely partly nostalgia, but also partly the kind of morbid curiosity that you have when you drive past a car accident. You don't want to look, but you still do. You see the vehicle carcasses and know that it's bad but you still hope that everyone's miraculously ok.
I also haven't really thought about Digg since something like 2006-2007 when I discovered Reddit. But there was a certain charm to it for a while. Together with things like StumbleUpon, BoingBoing and ICanHasCheesburger.
My confusion is the same, but when I think back on digg, I don't get nostalgic. I think of a site I liked that was enshittified and became garbage. I also think how reddit came around at that time and it felt like a cool fresh start. Then over the course of a decade I got to see that site go down the same dark path. I just can't imagine wanting to get back on that treadmill, especially with a previous offender.
Reddit is awful, Tides is great except if you want to have a full, engaging discussion without someone getting offended. Digg is the middle ground.
I really must say I'm very suspicious of people in this thread. Most users replying were registered in June 2023, and I don't recognize any of their usernames.
Your account was registered in the early days, which makes me wonder even more why you're shiling so hard for digg. Is there some sort of incentive going on? Are you paid / rewarded in some way for promoting digg?
In your last post you referred to early accounts as "groundbreakers" and instilled a sense of urgency where you only have X amount of invites left, so people should contact you as soon as possible.
This is all just very suspicious to me. Digg is irrelevant, and has been for more than 15 years. I literally know no one who has ever once said to me "I miss digg" or "I wish digg was reinvented by billionaires who wish to relive their glory years by reinvigorating their dead brand" etc.
Literally no one is/has been talking about digg. How is this thread a thing? Why 43 votes? Why 114 replies? This is going on to be one of Tildes' most active threads of all time, and it's mostly June 2023 accounts, some with this as their only post.
I hate to @Deimos here, but this is sus af.
Youāre right that thereās a lot of largely inactive accounts, many from 2023, that are coming out of the woodwork here. Remember that 2023 was the last big Reddit exodus, motivated by API changes. I am sure many who didnāt care still took the opportunity to join other sites, including Tildes, out of FOMO when invites were flying around for everywhere. The simplest explanation with that in mind is that they never cared about Tildes and are now just using the opportunity to get invites to yet another thing.
Is it crappy to ask the community for something without having ever contributed? Yeah. Do I think thereās some deeper shilling or astroturfing campaign going on? Unlikely.
For the rest who are actually part of the community here, Iād guess itās mostly curiosity and nostalgia and the (small) thrill of being one of the first to check out a new (old) thing on the internet.
It doesn't seem unusual to me that reddit refugees would seek out invites to reddit alternatives, especially the people that don't really feel like they fit the Tildes vibe and so ended up as lurkers.
I'm intentionally not touching the other points though. I just see it as reasonable that this kind of engagement with these posts could naturally occur.
Edit: I was originally trying to avoid addressing the shilling accusations because I wasn't interested in history digging, but curiosity got the better of me. The accusation seems a bit extreme to me. I only saw 2 comments about Digg this year (as far back as I looked). Even the bit about "groundbreakers" is just the name of that tier on Digg itself, not saying people that join Digg are doing something groundbreaking (https://www.theverge.com/news/646985/digg-relaunch-groundbreakers-early-access-username-reservation-5-dollars).
Naturally I could be looking too deep into it, but I mean... Digg?
I thought most digg refugees that turned to reddit, who ended up as reddit refugees on tildes, lemmy, etc, would see this rebranding for what it is. It's as if everyone frustrated with facebook ended up banding together to move to instagram.
It's literally the reddit guy running digg in the reddit way. I don't know why anyone would be enthusiastic about this.
I cannot sincerely believe this is an organic movement.
It looks interesting.
Community wise, how is it? I find places like Reddit and the fediverse toxic, is it better than those?
While I'm interested in checking it out, it's painful to see people get excited about... another for-profit, unsustainable forumlike platform that will likely enshittify in a matter of months.
Why can't we learn our lesson? Building anything on a foundation provided by these companies is an exercise in masochism: they will inevitably change components out from under you to improve their numbers for their VC funders. Think about what happened to the Apollo app dev.
I swear, I could build a subdevelopment with water pipes made of crystallized sugar, graham cracker walls, bread roofing, and gumdrop siding and it would enshittify slower than some of these online businesses. Didn't y'all read Hansel and Gretel?
The ānon-profitā options tend to not have a sufficiently good product to actually capture a sufficient amount of ānormalā people to make said platform worth using.
For what itās worth, I think itās OK to let these be transient. Itās not that important, in the end. Digg is good, now digg is bad, now Reddit is good, now Reddit is bad, twitter is good, now twitter is bad, Bluesky is where it is, and so on. Itās just entertainment. Who cares if you have to āmoveā or eventually quit? Not a big deal if these end up being transient experiences that end. I mean, even if they stay āgoodā itās natural for people to get sick of them over time anyway.
You make a good point, and for entirely online interest-driven communities, I think this is acceptable. The people who participate in these communities tend to migrate whenever the current solution becomes unbearable.
It's more frustrating when you blend meatspace and internet relationships. I find Meta, Facebook, Instagram, and everything associated with those products completely unbearable. But my relatives are too content to move away. A lot of people seem OK with the enshittification of those communities, and very few people seem interested in shifting to products that are less exploitative, less manipulative, less chock full of dark patterns and ads and scams and malware. I feel like we did a lot of harm by adopting Facebook for events and community. Similarly, a lot of businesses are actively harmed by Instagram and Google Maps, whose enshittification is beginning to destroy businesses who relied on those services (foolishly) for discovery. If you don't pay for ads, even the people who follow you might not see your updates.
Anyway, I agree with your point as long as we assume a spherical-cow-in-a-vacuum flexible world where we can all move on if a platform enshittifies. But our world is not so perfect, and many people and communities are not so flexible.
People don't always make good decisions. The fact that most users cling to Reddit and Twitter doesn't mean their services are better. People consume too much junk food and alcohol even though it's unhealthy.
For-profit media are really good at exploiting our emotions and it takes constant conscious effort to see through that.
Currently itās not too bad, Iām sure it will end up the same as Reddit and other similar sites though
Right, unfortunately.
In the past I would find refuge in smaller subreddits but nowadays⦠Idk, something changed. Even small communities feel toxic now. The vibe I have on reddit is completely different nowadays. Half the time it feels like people are waiting for an opportunity to one up each other, I canāt remember the last time I had a combo where I disagreed with someone but we both ended up walking away with something new. An idea I hadnāt considered before, a new way of looking at a specific issue, etc.
Well anyway sorry about the tangent.
If anyone has invites, I would also appreciate it!
I think its cause theres bots and paid users all over the place who only use the platform to stir up arguments on purpose.
It has been a while but my theory is that ever since it started being seen as an app more than a website, that caused a shift too. I don't have the exact numbers but it's something like only 5% of users that use old reddit, and way above 50% are using it through phones - most importantly the latter because phones are of course not something you write long comments on so that always makes content quality worse imo.
Literally a good 80% of /r/SideProject projects are peoople making tools for finding out the best subreddits to advertise your side project on =)
Yeah some communities get too cramped together they start to become negative echo chambers. If you believe them, thereās no more side hustles other than reinforcing other sidehustles
Not one thing, many things over a very long period. Accelerated once reddit went full in on fluff content and "growth" metrics. This effectively shifted it away from a community driven website to just "a website" where the subreddit differentiation is meaningless for the fast majority of users.
There have been a lot of UI changes to Reddit designed to discourage deep discussions and encourage endless scrolling. It's bad for communities but good for ad metrics!
Itās such a culture shock to me to switch to lemmy after I finish tildes for the day. I usually check tildes in the morning and read through the top activity of the last 24h. Then the rest of the day Iāll scroll lemmy if I need to. The vast difference in tone and substance of the comments is astonishing! Usually I forget Iām not in tildes and question if everyone is ok, then I remember. š
I was in a discord community of people who switched to Lemmy/Hexbear after they did the API thing. I definitely saw them progressively get more and more unhinged as they spent time on those pages. Itās just a deranged filter bubble of stuff that just works themselves up into being angry and contemptuous of others all the time.
it's rather small to say, but I had a look around, seems great. I had hopes for lemmy but ultimately didn't up liking it (same for bluesky). digg seems like it could work because it's not completely obscure nor is it using any new protocol like bluesky afaik. digg also has images unlike tildes.
Sent one via DM! Enjoy!
I still have one more if anyone else wants one
Oh I do!
Sent!
I also have
210 invite codesif anybody wants one, just send me a DMEDIT: all gone
I would love one if you still have it!
Thanks!
Looking forward to the reviews on how the platform progresses within the next 30-90 days. Will probably have a follow up comments if the reception is good from other Tilderinos.
I'd like an invite as well if anybody has one.
Iāll DM you
If you could spare another, I'd appreciate it very much. I signed up for the list months ago and still haven't gotten an invite from them, even though they send me their newsletters.
Itās on the way
Thank you so much!
Hey do you have another one by any chance?
All out, sorry. If I get more Iāll check back.
I wouldn't mind checking it out if someone has a spare code.
Interested in an invite as well if anyone has spares.
I have sent you one.
Hey, do you have an other one by any chance?
Sorry, I don't. I'll send you one if they regenerate - but I'm sure someone else here can send you one in the meantime.
Appreciate that. Thanks for the reply. :)
I would appreciate a code please if anyone has one. Remember digg? Pepperidge farm remembers.
I've just sent you one.
I'm curious on an invite.
dm sent.
If anyone has another laying around, Iād love to check it out as well
I should be able to give you one if you are still looking.
@babypuncher already helped me out. Thanks for offering!
If you have one left Iād be super happy if you could invite me
Totally! Will DM.
I'd like one too if there are any left! I actually got into their beta but due to life I missed the email and eventually they closed the doors on me and revoked the invite :(
I'd love an invite too if anyone has one to spare
I'd be interested in a Digg invite too if anyone has a spare.
Would be really interested if anyone has a spare invite
I'd like an invite if anyone has one too.
I join here, I would like to try it.

Thanks, I registerred w/o problem.
I'm interested, out of curiosity and nostalgia at least. (It'll probably end up being more of what I try to avoid for my own sanity, though lol.) I started on Digg and jumped to Reddit in 2007, way ahead of the great Digg collapse.
Me too please
I'd love to check it out as well if anyone is willing to spare an invite!
Yay, invite thread! I'd appreciate one too please.

I joined the waitlist in march and haven't heard anything :)
That's kinda crazy. From what I can tell it was around March that they announced this new digg?
yeah, I got on their list right away, thinking I'd get in quick. Maybe there's some prejudice against my gTLD (.party) :)
Had to google that haha but yeah since OP got in after 1 month,, probably.
probably some sort of future-karma system for being a dick in the McDonalds thread.
the .party domain is used for catch-all email ā so digg is digg@blah.party and so on. since getting this system going, i never get spam ā but it appears i also never get invites, either. :)
I also signed up with an email on my own domain. I signed up in May and still haven't heard anything. Looks like we both used
digg@<domain>
so perhaps we got filtered out because of that? I'll try getting on the queue withsomethingelse@<domain>
and see how that goes!if that turns out to be it, thatāll be funny.
I also signed up awhile back and used a custom domain. Still haven't heard anything. Hm...
Also interested if anyoneās able to share an invite!
I would love to test it if anyone has a spare invite. :)
Can I get an invite too? How active is the community?
Would love to get an invite as well if anyone has one. I always enjoy investing my time on smaller platforms.
Iāll throw my name in the hat for anyone with invites to spare. Thanks in advance
Yet another person looking for an invite :)
Also interested!
Also very interested. Thanks in advance if anyone still has extras.
I'll throw my hat in. I'm interested if anyone wants to throw me an invite
I also would like an invite. Hopefully when I get in I can pay it forward!
Queuing up on the invites. Would be super happy if anyone had one to spare!
PM sent
I'll take an invite if one is available, but disclaimer: I don't actually want to use digg at this time, I'll only be reserving my username just in case. Please help the others here first.

Hey, thanks! :) Didn't expect it so quickly!
On the same boat, Iād like to create an account in case it becomes decent. Tildes has been a my go to place to read up on anything non political as Reddit is full of it at the moment. Some good AI articles as well here.
Hi all! Interested in an invite as well. Can someone share please? Thank you beforehand!
Interested in an invite for curiosity's sake, please. I've seen too many platforms arrive, enshittify, and zombie onward to have much hope, but it's worth a glance.
PM sent
Unfortunately, new signups are locked right now; I'll try again tomorrow. Again, my thanks!
I don't have high hopes for the reasons stated before in this topic, but I wouldn't mind having one myself. I'm curious about the design of its mobile app given Christian Selig's role in the company.
Would appreciate an invite as well in case someone still has one.
*edit: Got one
Would you be able to invite me please?
I can't, only previous members can I assume. At least I don't have any invites, since I just got invited myself.
I sent you one.
If anyone has one, I'd love one too! :)
I too am interested in an invite code if any more people have one to spare please. I think it will be interesting to watch whatever the new Digg metastasizes into.
Sent you one.
I'd be interested in an invite code as well, if someone has an extra.
I'd like one!
Any invites still going?
Also interested in getting an invite if someone has one.
Long shot, but I'd like a code if anyone has one!
Same, would like an invite if anyone has one available.
I'd like an invite code if anyone has one. I spent a lot of time on Digg back in the day before it went to hell and we everyone moved to Reddit (and listening to Diggnation, which is apparently back too). Interested to see we're they're taking it now.
I would like one invite if any anyone has thanks
I'm also interested in an invite :)
Never used it. I think it was before I explored the English speaking internet. I'm curious
Iām late, but in case anyone comes back with a bunch of invites, Iām interested in one.
Looks like I didnāt realize I got an invite a few months back that expired. Would love an invite if someone has one.
Hey all! Please, share one invite:) I really want to try it
If anyone has an extra invite id love to check it out
i cn haz invite plz

I used to digg. Now I can't anymore. I'd love an invite so I can digg again! :D
Yes, the invites are limited to groundbreakers for now. Yes, they are limited to two. I have two still because I can't find anybody worthy who actually wants one. Tell me the kinds of things you would post, and if I want to see that kind of thing I might toss an invite someone's way. Right now I am afraid of inviting memelords and engagement farmers. I want Digg to remain good, like Tildes has.
Well, the person I originally responded to got banned, so Iām going to delete that comment and repost on the main thread itself so it has potential to be seen:
I would love an invite. My posts would be similar to how I post on Tildes. Iām not big into memes or meme culture, I prefer to have meaningful conversation.
There are a ton of wonderful people on this site, so no worries if other folks gets picked over me. Just wanted to put myself out there to check it out. I actually missed out on Digg entirely, even though I was on the internet during that time.
