Do you have a dream job/one you've always thought about doing?
Do you work your own dream job? If you do, what is something you'd like to change about it to make it even better? This question popped in my head this morning while not wanting to dive in to a weird work thing and after a quick look, it's been ~4 years since the last time a similar question was asked by @kfwyre (who posts awesome discussion questions!), and I thought that it's been long enough to ask again for new Tilders to chime in or for whoever answered last time to come back and see if their answers are the same.

I recently started a new job and have realized I'm not entirely sure what the scope of work is. I applied to a role that I was very well suited for and had a very clear objective. I went through like 8 rounds of interviews for them to decide that the team I applied for was CET and I am PT, which likely wouldn't work. So they made me a position with a team on the US west coast, be it a very different one. The salary is still wild so I took it, particularly in this job market, but now I'm having a hard time sussing out what the extents of my position actually are.
Has anyone been in this position before or have advice on how to narrow the scope of your work if it's a bit amorphous? Cheers!

In the same vein as my thread a few months ago about flashlights, in which I was incredulous that the world has moved on from alkaline batteries to lithium, the Boy Scout in me reminds me I'm an idiot every time I go out for a hike with my anemic first aid kit.
One specific thing I'm curious about is that when I go to REI or other outdoorsy stores, I see the first aid aisle has all sorts of options for tourniquets, wound packing, etc., etc. Are people actually carrying that stuff with them, or is it all kind of a gimmick?
My nightmare is to be out hiking, have myself or someone I'm with get injured, and be like "well, we might've been able to save your life/limb if we just had XYZ item no one wanted to buy/carry".
If anyone has advice, guides on putting together a kit, or recs for good little bags to pack everything in, I'm all ears!

Had been wondering about this for a bit. The "classics" we know had already all been written and popular by then. Right now, I don't see any major piece of writing apart from the occasional r/nosleep posts that would evoke that kind of feeling when being read which I would get reading say, "Psychosis" or "Gateway of the Mind". The "backrooms" theme was the only recent concept I know that came to be in that subculture, but that was lot more visual than in a literary format. Thinking about it, a kind of mainstreaming of this culture happened in the years before 2020 through memes and animations, and then it just faded out of memory. What do you folks here think happened to it? Where might the authors be now? Horror as a genre doesn't feel the same again since creepypastas have gone.
Edit (from a comment): Might it be so that text-based subcultures died out in favor of visual ones? SCP articles rely heavily on the visual aspect of things. I can't imagine someone putting out the effort to write out something like "Ben Drowned" and get a good audience nowadays, though of course I may be wrong.

This topic is for the Three Cheers for Tildes mobile app.
I'll summarize the major updates at the start of each similar topic, so people can read the updates and then hit Ignore if they don't care about more frequent updates and user feedback.
Recently:
[iOS] Version 1.6.1 (May 21, 2026): Improves on the Find in Comments feature. Fixes some UI bugs related to the Find Comment bar, and with potentially stale votes showing in the UI. Also adds the iPad pane toggle on iPadOS 18 and earlier, to bring the behavior closer to iPadOS 26, and fixes some iPad animation bugs.
[Android] Version 1.6.3 (May 20, 2026): Added "Find in comments" to "..." menu. Fixed first search position in comments. Fixed tapping links in collapsed details summary. Fixed stale vote rendering.
Version 1.6.0 (May 13, 2026):
- Added Find in comments
- Improved markdown tables rendering performance
- [Android] Fixed drafts not loading in some cases
- [iOS] Fixed keyboard bugs on iOS 26
- [iOS] Fixed iOS 12 support
On iOS, currently TestFlight only for the next week or so.
Following version 1.5's addition of searching for posts, Three Cheers 1.6 adds a bar to find text in comments. It changes the comment bar a bit which took some work, and it was pretty tricky handling the edge cases with highlighting the matched text. Might have some leftover bugs, or configurations I forgot to consider, so please report those here.
There was an Android bug with drafts not loading in some cases, reported last time. Should be fixed now.
Also I'm happy to report that I was able to fix some long-standing iOS bugs, some keyboard bugs specific to iOS 26 that have been reported on TestFlight intermittently for quite a while, and an iPad rare crash that likely went even further back. So this version should be pretty stable on iOS.

I want to donate my kidney (not to anyone in particular, which would make the process far more straightforward), but I need help navigating the bureaucracy. Here are things I have seen about living kidney donation online:
- You can select five people to get priority access to kidneys if they need it (e.g., parents, spouse, kids)
- They will fly you to where you need to go for screening
- They will cover lost wages during recovery
Now I don't know who "they" is, or how to go about getting answers to these questions. Since I'm not tethered to a particular recipient, I can choose wherever to sign up, and I want to make the optimal choice both for myself and the recipient.
If you are a donor, especially an anonymous donor who's navigated this stuff, please reach out.

Thank you to all the 148 people that responded! Check out the dashboard for the results! Here's a few quick stats:
- 50 total distinct languages were submitted!
- 30 of which people responded speaking fluently
- 40 of which people responded they are familiar with
- The top 5 languages (combining fluent and familiar):
- English with 146 responses (not a surprise :P)
- French with 54 responses
- Spanish with 50 responses
- German with 39 responses
- Japanese with 25 responses
- And people responded with this many languages (combining fluent and familiar):
- 1 language at 9.5%

- If you have any ideas for visualizations or stats I can add I'd love to hear them!
- ZIP download of the data
Thank you all again for participating!
Also I'm making a change to the schedule! The survey for the coming week will be a simple one: "Pineapple on pizza? Yes or no". I have an idea I'd like to work out to make the surveys more customizable and easier to set up but that will take some time, that's why I'm deciding to have a fun in-between survey and next week we'll have the vote on the next surveys coming up. :)

Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendations for mp3 players. Specifically though I'm looking for two different recommendations. I have a seventh grader I teach who is really interested in getting started with mp3 files (that she has yet to acquire), so a cheaper device if possible. I, on the other hand, have a solid yet growing collection of FLAC files I would love to listen to not on my phone, so I'm willing to splurge a little more for this. I tried searching tildes for it but couldn't find anything that suit my need. I know about the tangara (I think thats how it is spelled?) but I can't seem to find if I can even buy it anymore :/ Thanks!!!
