Colossal Game Adventure: September 2026 voting topic
Anyone can participate. CGA does not require membership and is always open to all.
Ballot Formatting
- Ballot entries are
NAME (VOTES)e.g.Pong (3) - Copy and paste the game titles from the list so they match exactly.
- The ballots will be tallied using this script from u/Spore_Prince.
- Any improper ballots will not be counted (but you will get a polite message from me or someone else asking you to fix them beforehand).
Topic Rules
- All top-level comments must be ballots and ballots only.
- Child comments can be anything -- feel free to talk about why you chose what you did.
Voting Process
- Each person has 20 votes to distribute among games as they see fit.
- Each person can allocate a maximum of 5 points per Single Game/Arcade Special.
- Arcade Specials count as one block (do not vote for each game in them individually).
- Voting closes 4 days (96 hours) from the posting of this topic.

Voting Outcomes
- The top 6 games/Arcade Specials will become the next 6 months of CGA (or more in case of a tie).
- Of the remaining games, the bottom 50% will be cut from the list.
- The remaining 50% will stay on the list and will enter the next voting round with 30% of their final vote totals.

I started to make a list of my potential votes, saw that my initial list of games totaled 10, and decided that an even split between all of them felt right.

Some thoughts on each.
Back in a Flash is an interesting assortment of classic Flash titles. I'm not sure how accessible they are today, but I assume translation layers like Ruffle should help. This will be a quick one to knock out, even with five different games. I remember playing through Stick RPG in one session.
There's lots of RPGs to choose from, with Crystalis, Mother 3, and Ys. I think ideally we'd pick one or two, but not oversaturate the schedule with them.
Of the lot, the Mother series is probably the one I'd be most interested in for its cultural importance. Though it does seem like most online recommendations say to start with Mother 2 (Earthbound), so I'm hesitating to put my full votes behind this one.
On the other hand, Resident Evil (REmake) is apparently a great entry point. It's definitely a series I'd like to try, and think a horror game could work really well in a group setting. If selected, I would suggest placing it towards the back of the schedule. Capcom runs one or two bundles for the series each year, so it would give everyone a chance to pick the game up on Steam.
I tried the first Sonic Adventure a few years ago, and didn't quite jibe with it, but would be willing to try it again. Sonic Adventure 2 on the other hand is a favourite of mine, and one I'd be glad for others to play. If enough others have played it before, we could consider another Archipelago randomizer as it's a first-class supported game. Though I'm not sure exactly how that might change progression!
Oh baby, SA2 rando is one of my favorites and I'd recommend it so much. Aside from the fact that shuffling the music puts the climatic moments in the funniest places (LIVE AND LEARRRN as a bunch of baby level 2 Chaos are drowning themselves across a river), all the 3D jank and the wild variety of shit going on in that game turn it into a, y'know. adventure. Lot of fun.
Agree on playing Earthbound before the others. You can play Mother 3 before Earthbound; while there is an important character from EB, it's not that big of a deal IMO to not know their importance. But for the "real Mother experience," EB is a better starting point. And personally, Earthbound I think has a better story and mood or atmosphere. Mother 3 is quite different from EB.
I only just noticed, but about two hours after my comment, Fanatical put up a Capcom bundle which features Resident Evil titles including REmake. It's packaged with Resident Evil 0 in a double pack, but requires at least one other purchase.
If you'd rather grab it alone, it's slightly cheaper by itself on Steam until September 21st.
Just note that while it's currently in the top five, that might change as new votes come in! The deals run longer than the voting period, so you're safe to wait it out.

I just want play some more point and click adventure game.
Ys Origin definitely looks interesting. I played Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim on, I think, my PSP back in the day. Didn't get super far, but did like the concept enough and always did want to go back to it, but never did.
And with the recent Starcraft: Dominion trailer, definitely have it on my mind. As in, I should probably finish SC2. But I'd be down to play Starcraft and BW, too.
There were three games built on the Napishtim Engine; Ys Origin was the third and last.

I lobbied for Another World and Spooky Mansion Adventure (both of which I nominated) in the lobbying thread. I particularly want Spooky Mansion Adventures during October because... Well, spooky month. And also, it spans two classic genres—point-and-click adventure and survival horror—and the more I think about it, the more neat it feels to explore old freeware games! :D
Still got 4 vote slots left that I'm currently undecided on. I don't have much to say about the ones I voted for, except for Sonic because hey, I actually still have those for my GameCube! Maybe I can use this as an excuse to finish more of Adventure DX (pretty sure I only ever finished Tails' route), and check on my Chao again.
seriously why did they never bring back the Chao Garden, that is literally all I want from a new Sonic gameMy husband is also a Chao Garden aficionado such that he’ll play the Sonic Adventure games not because he likes the speed or platforming but because he likes raising chaos so much. As in, he thinks the actual levels of the game are obstacles to overcome so that he can get back to tending to his little creatures.
There have been a couple recent indie devs who’ve announced chao-likes, but the only one that’s actually released (that I know of) is Bobo Bay. Neither he nor I have played it, but it seems to have gotten a good reception. Might we worth looking into if you’re hankering for a new chao experience.
