'Tis the season, and it's nice to sit down and listen to some traditional Christmas carols in a cozy candle-lit room with plenty of biscuits. And sometimes it's nice to hear more modern takes on these ancient (and not so ancient) classics.
Unfortunately, whenever I look for this sort of thing, what I usually find is really bland CCM — some woman breathily singing "O Come All Ye Faithful" so slowly I can feel my life draining from me with every beat, a completely unnecessary modern bridge replete with painful key change, and so on. I know this stuff can be done right — Annie Lennox's Christmas album is a great example of taking classic carols and setting them to new music in such a way that it can completely change how you hear them. But finding more stuff in that vein is surprisingly hard.
So does anyone here have any suggestions or ideas for modern takes on classic carols that actually try and do something interesting?

American Thanksgiving was yesterday, so I get a nice long weekend. My husband and I spent yesterday with family, while today has been us chilling with our dog while enjoying canned cocktails and delicious leftovers.
In the spirit of the holiday (and speaking on behalf of the drinks I’ve consumed) I want to let everyone know that I’m happy this place exists and is filled with kind, thoughtful people. Tildes is marked by a coziness that, I believe, is largely missing across the modern internet.
I like recognizing people’s usernames and getting to know them. I like the slower pace of things here. I like that people put in effort. It feels good.
I know we’re all random internet nobodies inhabiting a tiny, niche corner of the web, but I’m happy I get to share this space with y’all. What luck that we ended up here, together.
Cheers, everyone. 🍻 Thanks for being awesome.

It's spooky month again! I've asked in the past for people to share scary, creepy and unexplained stories in October. But I figure the community doesn't grow enough to guarantee new people with new stories every year. So this year I'll mix it up:
What are some of the creepiest, spookiest and scariest places you've been?
Can be genuinely scary with a personal story attached. Can just be a spooky haunted house exhibit. Can be a place you just found really creepy for no specific reason. It could be as big as a historic mansion with a macabre background, as simple as abandoned buildings, could be that weird attic room with a lock on the outside of the door...
So share away!

This is such a long shot, but I have two tickets for the Friday October 24th Halloween Extravaganza Celebration @ St. John the Divine in New York City that I'm hoping to swap for Saturday October 25 tickets.
I entered and won tickets to another event Friday evening, but would really still like to see the extravaganza if possible. Both nights are sold out so unfortunately the venue can't do anything. Anyone out there happen to have Saturday night tickets they'd like to trade for my Friday night tickets?

Horror games to play during October
Warning: this post may contain spoilers
With October approaching, it's time to play some horror games! Horror is my favorite genre. It's chock full of emotion and creative game design. It's a genre that has to continuously reinvent itself to avoid getting stale, which leads to dozens of incredible games.
The games I'd like to play for the first time are:
- Silent Hill 2 - I was holding out for a proper remaster for over a decade. It's finally here, but it's $70! I'll probably have to bite the bullet.
- Resident Evil Village - I've been meaning to play this for years and already own it! On sale for $10.
- Resident Evil 4 (Remaster) - I played the original but not the new remaster. On sale for $20.
- Dead Space - Just bought this on sale a few weeks ago. It looks really good! On sale for $12.
- Alien Isolation - Alien is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I should really play this.
Now for some recommendations:
- Resident Evil (REmake) - This is where you start if you're new to horror. Absolutely iconic, and not too scary thanks to its cheesy B-movie script, which can be humorous. On sale for $5.
- Resident Evil 7 Biohazard - This game was a true return to form in the horror department. Absolutely loved it. On sale for $8. Genuine steal.
- Inscryption - Not very spooky. Has a fun card game and a lot of intriguing ideas.
Are there any games you're looking forward to playing?
Do you have any recommendations?

I might be a little early in posting this thread but I am personally beginning to stress a lot about the holidays - have been for like a month, even, to some degree.
So I wanted to make this thread as a safe venting space.
My own vent
I always disliked Christmas a lot, and New Year's Eve was even worse and is an active hate. But it's all so much worse this year because my brother (CSA TW) will be there. I have to pretend everything is fine even though it's not and I fear it will affect me so much so that I'm going to relapse when I get home.
Is there anything specific about the holidays that might affect or trigger you?
How are you?
Feel very free to vent!

We are halfway to Christmas, so I want to hear about peoples movie related Christmas traditions and favorites. I know many people have a certain movie or movies they have to watch every Christmas, or maybe just a favorite Christmas themed movie that means something special. Perhaps something completely non-Christmasy but just something you happen to enjoy rewatching every December.
Do you like the classics such as It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street?
Do you laugh at the burglars in Home Alone every Christmas?
Action movies with a Christmas element like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard?
Or perhaps completely new favorites like The Holdovers?
Perhaps just whatever is being rerun for the 100th time on tv? Which apparently is Love Actually here...

My parents normally give all us adult kids money for Christmas, but this year my mom said she wants to get us actual gifts and asked for wishlists from us. Problem is: I don’t know what to ask for!
So, similar to the Gift Swap topic, I thought we could come up with a list of items that are very good/useful/satifying but also less obvious, for the purposes of making a decent gift idea list.
Note: I don’t want it to be specific to me and my tastes/interests, since I want the whole community to be able to use it too. Share anything you like and think others might like!

There's a million of these adaptations, both direct adaptations of Scrooge himself, and parodies featuring various other characters. Which one did you grow up seeing the most? I am wondering what people are listening to this holiday season and hoping to build a playlist BEFORE Christmas Day. I have no particular allegiance to Christmas or any other specific holiday, but it’s fun to have a certain category of songs I only really listen to for one month of a year.

I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet (for those in the US), but Christmas shopping season has already started.
What gifts would you enjoy receiving this year? Large, small, fun, functional, or anything in between. I also acknowledge that some people try not to request anything as part of a minimalist or reduced waste mindset. In that situation, what do you request- money, donations to specific charities on your behalf, something else?
