Inspiration came when I was listening to Busy Signal - One More Night, a half-cover of the Phil Collins original. Reggae and dancehall have a lot of examples like this but it's usually interpolating or covering the chorus rather than the entire song.

So, which do you know? If you could post links for both the cover and the original, that'd be ace. I'd say sampling in hip-hop usually doesn't qualify here, unless there's clear conceptual connection to the original song beyond just the beat.

Also, if anyone suggests the Chet Faker version of No Diggity, I will start a riot in here.

As the title says. Bonus points for covers that really surprised you. My personal favorite is Sugar Ray's cover of The Steve Miller Band's Abracadabra. It's super faithful to the source material but Sugar Ray kinda heavied it up a bit

Did a lot of comparisons tonight, and I have to say I feel the variation of “Why Don’t You Do Right” sung by Amy Irving in Who Framed Roger Rabbit holds far more impact than the original recordings done by Peggy Lee, or even many artists after.

This is is a strange one because it completely changes the mood and not even in an unexpected way. Well, it is unexpected. But given the lyrics (unaltered), it feels much more tone appropriate.

Side note- Max Martin Wrote and co-produced this song and many of britneys stuff, and taylor swift, and many other #1/top10 spots. Mad.

I actually heard this one before the orig so this might be a bias for me. But when I finally got around to listening to the orig, it felt empty. Turns out i love those trailing high notes and it wasn't entirely the same feeling without it

A bit over a week ago, I posted share a link to a happy song and it seemed like fun, so how about we play again?

Hey folks,

A few years ago I went in to the basement room where the cool kids hung out while they did video conversions and such. They had a playlist in the background of "Haunting Covers" or something like that. It was a take on all different music, but played in a really chilled, gothic style and by a mix of un/lesser-known artists.

Does anyone have some recommendations? To give you an idea, one of the more known tracks I heard while I was there was Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit but covered by Tori Amos.

I discovered (or "discocovered") this song after reading a comment in the April Fool's thread about Spotify changing its "discover weekly" feature into "discocover weekly". The commenter mentioned "a disco cover of 'Rhapsody In Blue'", which checks two of my boxes:

• 'Rhapsody in Blue' is in my all-time Top Three instrumental/orchestral pieces of music.

• Disco (real disco, from back in the '70s) is one of my favourite genres.

Mashing these two things together just has to be good. And, sure enough, it is! This track is, in equal parts, inspired and cheesy. I can't listen to it without finding myself bopping along. It makes me happy.

I bought the track within 15 minutes of reading that comment, have added it to my "Orchestral" and my "Disco" playlists, and am making excuses to listen to it as often as I can.

Actually, there were a few disco versions of classical songs made in the 1970s. It seems to have been a minor fad back then - and I realised, when buying this track, that I also have Murphy's track 'A Fifth of Beethoven', plus 'Night on Disco Mountain' by David Shire. I really enjoy this combination of funky disco and classical music.

And I love this song! :)
